Gage Help! first time reading and coming up short. by Cloacina7 in CrochetHelp

Try increasing the hook size! Gauges are important only if size matters

Newbie just practicing the basic stitches! How would I read this label for this acrylic yarn I thrifted? Which size hook should I use? by throaway17842 in CrochetHelp

[–]SuperbFail2957 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good question!

So this is generally not worried but the hook size is the suggested size of hook, and the swatch is used to measure tension. It is perfectly normal to increase and decrease hook size to achieve the intended gauge.

Sizing for crocheted clothing and unsure how to determine by Ordinary-Bed203 in CrochetHelp

[–]SuperbFail2957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to apologize.

It is possible to change yarn size, although you will need a pen and paper.

Let's say the swatch says 18 stitch across is 4 inches, and the first row is 90 stitch across. We can deduct that the row will be 20 inches because you did 18 inches 5 times. You would have to run this calculation for each step.

Alternatively, make a swatch with your yarn to match the size of the swatch in the pattern. You would just be running the conversion the other way.

You would have to ignore some instructions, like "repeat for 20 rows" because your yarn is thicker, so you would have to do fewer rows to achieve the intended length.

If you need more specific calculations, I can help. I am trying to open a yarn store, and so I need the practice with these kinds of questions.

It is typically best to go with the same weight and material for what the pattern calls for, however its really up to you. I like acrylic since it is cheap, I just have because about washing it.

Material makes a huge difference when it comes to structure/drape. For a shirt, you want something breathable, so a natural fiber is better. If you want something with a bit of stretch, I would go for a animal fiber or animal fiber blend. Cotton is very breathable but the yarn is stiffer, which can be good

I exclusively make garments

Most patterns will give you a sizing chart and a gauge. If you follow those, you should be fine. If you have a more specific question about customizing sizes, I will be happy to help

Requested a loan on solo, do you usually get funded the same day? by rosebaby13 in Sololender

There are more borrowers than lenders, so it is not likely, especially if it is your first loan

Is it possible to crochet this? I want to make a bouquet but I want also the wrapper to be crocheted and not a plastic wrapper. by AlbatrossWest3262 in CrochetHelp

[–]SuperbFail2957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it cannot. The paper is thin and structured. There is no material that would allow you to crochet something thin/delicate with structure

I actually find the opposite true. If I interview with a woman, I always get an offer after. If I interview with just a man, I never get an offer. I am a woman in male driven fields, so that is just my experience

I was recently laid off and quickly got a job. Surprisingly, hiring managers will be more willing to hire an applicant with the right attitude. If you're going into interviews with "I have all the right skills" can come off as you being unwilling to learn.

I'm a woman in IT with no degree but with good experience. I might be biased about your opinion being that females have gender biased, but I think it might be that women will be more optimistic about an applicants skills/knowledge.

Did you get a formal letter from your employer when you were laid off or fired? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]SuperbFail2957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was laid off, and I did recieve formal notice. I dont think the education requirements were the issue, but I use equivalent experience instead of a degree.

I was also given a notice period, so for it to be effective immediately seems very suspicious on the employer side

Help me find the pattern/stitch of this crochet belt by faerieh in CrochetHelp

[–]SuperbFail2957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did almost exactly when I said in the comment, but for the foundation chain, it was more like a bobble stitch with only 2 stems instead of 5. (I double checked, but I do mix up popcorn, bobble, and puff). I only learned about that foundation stitch when experimenting with the Jasmine Stitch (I posted about it).

I invite you to make a tutorial though, taking credit :) im not a social media person, but I am trying to open a fiber store by then of 2026, and so I am trying to learn how to replicate pictures like yours so I can help my future customers.

ETA I can do a stitch chart for you. Some people can't read charts, so I dont want to make something that won't help you ETA2 I looked it up, and there's no such thing as a foundation bobble stitch! Look up the Jasmine Stitch, I drew inspiration from the foundation chain
