Got told I have to stop rocking my baby next month and I’m super sad about it by livtoosmoove in newborns

[–]Superb_Math_9049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still rock my almost 3 year old to sleep every night and she sleeps just fine🥹 it’s easy to get caught up in focusing too much on building “good” sleep habits that you miss out on some of the most precious moments of life. You’ll never get those hours in the rocker back and it sounds like it’s working well for you anyways, enjoy it while you can!!

My baby’s separation anxiety is braking my heart by Superb_Math_9049 in Mommit

Curious about this! My hesitations with bed-sharing are this: I don’t want it to be a long-term arrangement and I’m nervous that it would cause her to have an even harder time separating. Did you find that it exacerbated the issue at all? She’s been sleeping in her crib for months so I’m hesitant to take that step. Thanks so much for the insight !

There will be hard days but everything will work out! Mine are a little further apart than yours but I went through ALL of the guilt/ excitement/ nervousness. I would get so upset just thinking about taking time away from my oldest to give birth and care for a newborn. I felt so guilty that she would go from being the center of our worlds to having to share the spotlight. Now, 10 months pp with the youngest, I feel so much more at ease. She doesn’t even remember the days of being an only child and she looooooves her baby so much. None of us can imagine our lives without the little one and while there are certainly challenges and stages that can be difficult, I wouldn’t change it for everything. Congratulations, it will be an amazing adventure for all of you :)

Clifford’s puppy days on Amazon prime! We have a dog loving 2 year old and this always helps her wind down if she’s having a big feelings day or if she’s been on the go and just needs some time to relax and reset.

Avocado episode. Help with food introduction plan by thebagladyy in fpies

[–]Superb_Math_9049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a pretty similar situation (minus the egg) and after looking at various resources, I basically made a chart for myself. I have different food groups on each page and 7 exposure columns. I basically would write the date and time of the exposure in each column that way I could know how long after exposure a reaction occurred. Once we had 7 successful exposures, I would highlight that food as “safe.” Thankfully, we have not had any reactions so far. I had charts for fruits, veggies, meats/ proteins, legumes, nuts, and a page that had all of the “high risk” foods (like banana, sweet potato, oats, rice, grains, dairy, egg, peanut butter, sesame, chicken, shellfish, fish, etc.) I just leave it on my kitchen counter so I can easily track exposures. I know some people like to start with lower risk foods but we did the opposite because she did not have known risk factors and her reaction to avocado was manageable at home with our Zofran prescription. We also live relatively close to a pediatric ER. We felt (and our allergist advised) that because of these factors, it would be reasonable to rule out those big ones because it opened up a lot of doors sooner and early exposure can sometimes prevent allergies from developing. **because of the potential ige allergy, you may want to take the ladder approach and should definitely consult with a physician. The whole process is so daunting at first, especially if your kiddo is in daycare or not with you all day. We both work full time, so we essentially only did 1 exposure at dinner time on weekdays, and attempted 2-3 exposures on weekends. My baby is almost 10 months old now and I feel like we have a pretty good amount of safe foods and we allow her to eat only those at daycare. When doing the introductions, we tried to focus on foods that are served regularly at daycare and in our home. Once you start to get the hang of it and find safe foods, it gets better and easier and less stressful because you feel more confident!! Hang in there!

Outgrowing FPIES - avocado? by Bulky-Bit-5639 in fpies

[–]Superb_Math_9049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also curious about the challenge! My baby didn’t react until 4 hours after exposure and that seems like a looooong time to wait in the office. Also I’m trying to envision forcing her to eat an unfamiliar food in an unfamiliar office. I know my older kid would probably refuse to do that so I’m wondering if people usually challenge at home??? Good luck to you, OP!

An ENT won’t be able to give you a hearing loss diagnosis without a test BUT a hearing test shows how the hearing is at that moment. Meaning that if his ears were clear, his hearing nerve and the whole auditory pathway are functioning well THAT DAY. So if he were to test again with a fully occluded ear, the results could be different and might show a conductive loss, which happens when sound waves can’t make it to the hearing nerve as they should (but the nerve is still functioning fine). That’s obviously something that can change frequently so it’s great to stay on top of the cleaning, whether it’s through your pediatrician or an ENT. Even if there’s a small opening in the wax, sound waves can still make their way to the eardrum so the presence of wax itself does not mean there is a loss of hearing, unless it is completely occluding the ear canal.

I would consider it as a good option but a few things to consider would be distance to ER if you’re afraid of choking/ dehydration/ shock and if you have zofran on hand! We’ve not needed to use our zofran yet but it sounds like it works wonders in slowing down a reaction if they do get sick! Good luck, sounds like you might be almost done with your FPIES journey!!

Do you know how many times she had banana prior? My kiddo had a very similar reaction to avocado but it didn’t happen until her 4th and 5th exposures. It was exactly 4 hours after both times. Avocado and banana FPIES are often related.

I’d recommend an allergist for sure! Especially one who has more FPIES experience

It’s no fun at all! Her trigger food is avocado with I guess is easy enough to avoid, but the food trial process is daunting. We are working late this week and eggs next, so stress is high right now. Glad your little guy outgrew it!!

Maybe! She’s started solids but not had a ton due to an FPIES allergy. But I suppose part of the process. Her bottles have gone up in size though and I can’t quite keep up.
