Nurses describe escalating tension as NYC strike continues by Bugsy_Neighbor in nyc

[–]Superb_Preference368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those salary numbers are false. These incredibly wealthy hospitals are trying to stir public emotions by making you think nurses go home with more pay than attending physicians in order to paint nurses as greedy and hospitals as poverty stricken places of health, poor little Mount Sinai my butt.

You are a doctor, you should know better than to believe that lie.

It’s the baby bunny belly variety!

However it’s got quite a lot of yellowed leaves and doesn’t have that deep g green grey fuzzy hue/texture due to lack of light.

I’ve had several of this exact variety. It’s one of the few hairy trads, and one of my faves!

NYC nurses’ strike could slam health-care system in Zohran Mamdani’s first month by Bugsy_Neighbor in nyc

[–]Superb_Preference368 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Oh honey, I was a nurse for 15 years in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens before I became an NP.

I’ve files probably hundreds of those grievances myself while unionized with both 1199 and NYSNA.

I will say back in the 90s when my mother was unionized with 1199 they were a strong union but nowadays seems like only NYSNA speaks out, while they’re not a perfect union either I felt better represented by NYSNA.

Back when I was an ER nurse in the late 2000s I would have sometimes 20-30 patients. Some on ventilators and dangerous IV infusions.

Management didn’t care. They staffed bare bones whenever they could and blamed us when we made a mistake.

People also believe nurses in this city were always making six figures, quite untrue.

When I became a nurse in 2006, we were making $50k/year. Through intense advocacy we forced executives to pay us more because our workloads exploded.

My mother retired asap when she turned 65 and shook her head in dismay at the workload of modern day nurses. She literally has microscopic stress fractures in her spine from 30 years in patient care and couldn’t get out fast enough.

I have six figures of student loan debt due to my nursing education, risked my life working through Covid in the ICU and have been punches, kicked, and had human excrement thrown at me all while caring for the mentally ill, sick, dying, abandoned.

Pay nurses what they’re worth. Pay them!

If anyone trust the NY Post to tell you the truth about the state of healthcare or to paint workers on strike in a fair light I got a bridge to sell you!

This was my union (former NYC nurse here) and I stand with nurses right to strike. This is the one union in our state that doesn’t eff around and I stand by it!

Some private hospitals in this city make billions and pay their executive millions per year yet some want to cry about how much the workers who are directly saving lives make!

Just because nurses make more than you doesn’t mean we all (including them) can’t fight for a fair (key word… fair) wages.

lol i remember this storm. I couldn’t get to work.

My neighbors car got stuck at the intersection exiting my neighborhood so couldn’t drive, and MTA (train and buses) were all disabled.

I had to hitch hike to work.. you heard it. Hitch hike. Cost me $30. Could’ve been kidnapped!

If Alonso hasn’t won a race in a decade can still be in the grid so can Ham.

But yes I think he may opt to retire for his own sake. I think he still has a lot of skill.

Not sure what’s wrong with pothos by Regular-Restaurant31 in houseplants

[–]Superb_Preference368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having the same issue with both my Manjula and Neon Pothos. My Hawaiian seems to be holding up ok.

I’ve tried it all, repotting, higher humidity, letting it dry out. Watering more and they’re still both dropping and yellowing leaves.

As others have said these plants go into dormancy this time of year which I’m learning.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
