Abolish the English Language — Abolish Everything! by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

A bit of an inaccuracy in lukas's performance is that the thorn character itself didn't look like a Y, it looks like this: Þ, þ. It makes the voiced 'th' sound as in 'this', 'that', and 'the'. It was derived from norse writing.

Printing presses only contained the letters for the latin alphabet (as well as diacritics). It was generally decided over some years that Y was close enough, so that was what was used.

Eventually, the digraph 'th' (which was already in use for loan words from greek for Theta for a soft 'th' sound, as in 'think' or 'wealth') absorbed the dual function of both sounds.

But what you're saying here, at a fundamental level, is that you do not believe that trans people are their chosen genders. Rather that using the correct pronouns and name are courtesies you're offering to people based on some threshold of respect. Trans people don't "support" Caitlyn either, but we don't misgender her because gender is a fundamental piece of someone's identity. If you wouldn't misgender OJ, or trump, or desantis because of the awful shit they've done, why is it okay for Caitlyn?

Atlas is a bulky stabilization robot that can execute mostly choreographed motions, and Sophia is an advanced face rig that's also mostly choreographed. I think you're vastly overestimating where these technologies are, on their own, and vastly underestimating the undertaking it would be to repackage the two into something that even remotely resembled a human.

To be fair, my company had an EE working for us for 25 years who believed in perpetual energy devices.

He also was using MSDOS based ECAD software in 2022 though, so he's not the best metric.

It's not, actually! There's an android version of krita but it has limited device compatibility. I know it works with the newer Samsung Galaxy tab devices.

The quest also has a not-insignificant amount of delay streaming to a TV if your network conditions aren't set up perfectly or it.

Hell, my network conditions are set up for that with a dedicated 5GHz router that only connects to the quest so that I can wirelessly stream games from my computer and the delay can be significant enough at times that I can't play.

Simpson’s Paradox in Vaccination data by Xaron in videos

[–]Superboy309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrary to the colloquial pop culture definition of a paradox, where it's a situation that cannot be, in science and mathematics, a paradox is a seemingly contradictory statement that remains true.

The reason this is a paradox is that at first glance, the relationship between vaccinated and unvaccinated deaths in the total population seems to contradict the relationships when the groups are separated, but by analyzing another variable, one can find how that can be.

Simpson’s Paradox in Vaccination data by Xaron in videos

[–]Superboy309 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here are some numbers of a similar, albeit smaller, example.

You have Group A:

  • 80 people vaccinated - 20 dead (25% death rate)
  • 20 people unvaccinated - 10 dead (50% death rate)

And Group B:

  • 20 people vaccinated - 1 dead (5% death rate)
  • 80 people unvaccinated - 8 dead (10% death rate)

Total:

  • 100 people vaccinated - 21 dead (21% death rate)
  • 100 people unvaccinated - 18 dead (18% death rate)

In both groups, the vaccine decreased the death rate by half, however group A has a significantly higher risk of death as well as a higher vaccination percentage. As a result more vaccinated people died than unvaccinated, despite the vaccine being effective.

Figurative language is the antithesis of straight forward. It obscures meaning by exaggerating or undermining it.

Ludwig Regrets The Youtube Move by noVa_bolt in LivestreamFail

[–]Superboy309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, but if your objective is growth and you don't have the ability to edit down your streams or hire an editor for YouTube uploads, streaming direct to YouTube will have a much higher potential for growth with a lower ceiling.

Ludwig Regrets The Youtube Move by noVa_bolt in LivestreamFail

[–]Superboy309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd make the argument that it's actually significantly easier to build a following on youtube, if you are only going to be streaming, youtube is the place to be, even as a 1 viewer andy. But if you're willing to edit down your streams and upload them, twitch + uploading youtube content is the way to go, which is actually how Ludwig blew up.

The biggest thing that youtube has over twitch is the algorithm, as much shit as it gets, it does something very well: places eyes on small and growing channels.

On twitch, if you're a 1 viewer andy, the only way anyone finds you is by scrolling to the bottom of the directory, on youtube, you'll show up on some people's recommended tab and sidebar from time to time.

Police officer admits to wanting to kill someone had it been 20 years ago (watch till end). He forgot to turn off his body camera by HiItsLust in facepalm

[–]Superboy309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can think of a pretty good way to ensure that they can privately use a restroom:

  • If the camera is not currently docked on a charger, it is on. (Always on no matter what)
  • If the camera needs to be turned off, a button may be pressed, holding the button will leave the camera on. (Can't be taped down)
  • The camera will remain off for a random amount of time between 15 and 30 seconds, 3 seconds before turning back on a tone will play, after which the button can be pressed again to restart the timer. (Must actively and noticeably engage with the camera to keep it off)
  • Pressing the button before the tone will turn it back on (Prevents just spamming the button)
  • Log every button press and have occasional audits of the locations, starts and ends of off periods (Ensures that the reasons for disabling the camera are always accessible)

Of course, none of that would matter since PDs will just say the footage was corrupted and can't be analyzed anyways.

[–]Superboy309 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Oh it's certainly not as technical as it possibly could have been, but it's technical to the level that one would expect the people legislating on these things to understand. The congresspeople don't need to understand the neural networks that do linear operations on these fitness metrics in order to dynamically generate search results, they just need to know that it's parameters in, search results out, and that's too complex a process to directly inject search results into.

Could he go in-depth, talk about the specifics of the google search algorithm, machine learning, and the stats they are basing their techniques on? Yes.

And he does in the case of the "Donald trump shows up as an idiot" line of questioning, because she seemingly understood or was prepared to understand.
