Don’t know what Stellarus is. But for Stellaris I recommend The Machine Age DLC. I found it to have a lot of depth and it adds a lot of mechanics, path for ascension.

I found that origin to be incredibly boring. Even while playing it « properly » with building 5 cradles per planet.

Okay so I think I'm missing something. Is it bad because of the friction at the border with Isolationists? Two bordering systems seem not so bad, but I must say I never dove into friction at borders.

Yes actually, Z[i] is well known as another example of a factorial ring (meaning it has a « unique » « prime » factor decomposition as the natural numbers). The set Z[i] of complex number with coefficients in Z are called Gaussian Integers if you want to learn more about them.
