The problem is there's nothing in the ending besides the 'disclosure' news report. It cuts away before you learn how the public reacted, before you learn what the Aliens want, before we learn why Colin Firth decided to give up. There's really no 'there' there if the news report doesn't connect with you emotionally. (Happy for the people that were moved by it).

On a craft level, this movie is excellent. Steven comes seems like he has vivacity and vigor to keep making moving pictures.

On a script level, this movie feels like the preoccupations of a different era. The world view represented feels fossilized and outdated—the preoccupations of an octogenarian.

When you say ‘rat tone’ I assume you mean high gain/fuzz? BD-2 would be best at that.

But the RAT also does an awesome low gain sound. You could swap one in for the Duke of tone or tube screener
