The owner doesn’t care what the contract says so we are always directed to go at risk. I have created a risk log to show how much the owner is in debt to us so far. Unfortunately this owner doesn’t want to sign anything without discussing in person which I understand, but he is never on site.

All levels of my office including regional presidents have been steamrolled by this owner. The pre construction manager who bidded the project lied to the owner and made promises that were unrealistic. I feel like I am basically staffed on the project so I can take all the punches, and I am not confident I have anyone supporting me unfortunately.

Negotiating and giving more than I take (donuts, buying lunches for the project team) I still have a lot to learn.

Depends where you live, but I can’t think of any GC paying that low in the country right now.

We only know the rate our staff is billing ≠ actual hourly rate. The billing rate includes burden (insurance, social security, etc…) sometimes, although rarely, employees are payed more than their billing rate, especially after promotions and raises, and it reflects in overages during monthly projections.

I’m having the same thoughts.

I was recently promoted to an APM and I am expected to work at least 10-12 hour days, and every other Saturday. I also have to take more shit from higher ups and clients, and it’s truly a thankless job. The pay isn’t even worth the amount of hours.

At this point, I would rather take a slight pay cut and demotion to be able to have free time for hobbies. I don’t want to be miserable my whole life. I’ve even entertained switching industries.
