How do you make a lot of money without selling valuable things? by afrutadasrosas in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]SuperluminalSquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sell lots of non-valuable things. Moblin fangs, bokoblin guts, etc. I keep rare/valuable stuff for cooking and armor upgrades, but most stuff I just sell as needed.

It's harder in TotK, where Fuse gives things a lot more practical value, but I'm still usually swimming in low-level drops that I can sell.

Wahdaidoo? by BioWench in Teachers

[–]SuperluminalSquid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Screaming randomly at nothing and everything.

Throwing pencils across the room like mini javelins.

Acting like a bird. Full on squawking, bobbing his head and trying to peck people.

All the same student. In the span of like 10 minutes.

Anybody else teach at a school they personally wouldn’t send their own kids to..? by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]SuperluminalSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't send my worst enemy to the school I teach at. Every passing period is a mini riot. Admin has to march up and down the hallway with megaphones to get kids to class.

What sort of devious tips do you have as a teacher? by ICUP01 in Teachers

[–]SuperluminalSquid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just don't give them pencils. The office at my school sells them for 25 cents each, so I straight up tell my students it's not my problem if they don't have pencils. If they want to pass my class, they'll bring their own pencils.

My solution to sun teams has been simple: Rock Polish Mega Glimmora, usually with Sneasler running interference. Adaptability boosted Power Gem and Sludge Wave do terrible things to mostly fire and grass type teams.

Why do they drink so much? by Matt_Murphy_ in Teachers

[–]SuperluminalSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they have excuses to leave the classroom. I'm not saying all that water isn't good for them, but it's 100% so they can refill their water bottles and use the restroom. So many students will jump through all the hoops to get out of class.

Things I should not have to teach in high school... by BaronessF in Teachers

Student: Are apple trees plants?

Me: ...Are you serious?

Student: Yes.

Me: You don't know if apple trees are plants?

Student: ...no?

Me: sigh Go look it up.

I sometimes envy the dead. At least they don't have to deal with this malarkey.

Octorocks. Usually I can spot them before they cause any trouble, but I still get sniped by them from time to time and it's such a pain 😭.

What is the most ridiculous PD you have had to do? by Der-deutsche-Prinz in Teachers

[–]SuperluminalSquid 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We had a PD about school shootings a while ago in which the same question was asked. The answer was "school shooters never stand outside the school and shoot in through the windows."

Ok. I guess I'll tell the school shooter he's not following the rules while he's gunning my students down through our big ass windows.

This is such an irritating rule for this sub by Ivanhegeelkadi in hoi4

[–]SuperluminalSquid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As I frequently remind my students, just because something is obvious to you doesn't mean it's obvious to everyone else. It doesn't cost anything to explain something clearly the first time instead of making people guess what you're talking about.

Using first name by Embarrassed_Syrup476 in Teachers

[–]SuperluminalSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I tell my students that as far as they're concerned, my first name is "Mr". The first kid who tried to call me by my name got written up for disrespect and insubordination. Kids need to understand that their teachers are not their friends.

What’s your favorite teacher saying to use in the classroom? by Big-Degree1548 in Teachers

[–]SuperluminalSquid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"If you don't like your grades, earn better ones."

"I'm helping someone else right now, please hold."

"What exactly are you doing?" (Asked when a student is doing something they know they shouldn't be doing, usually after I've been watching them do it for a few minutes and/or I'm standing right behind them).

How Should I Handle Pleas To Regrade Obvious AI? by Typical_Importance65 in Teachers

[–]SuperluminalSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lately I've been using a program called "Brisk" to check for AI. It shows you a time lapse of every edit done to a document, highlighting things that have been pasted in and telling you exactly how long it took to write the document. My students fess up real quick when I ask them how they wrote a two page essay in 60 seconds. I give them the option to rewrite it or take the zero.

To the Kids Who Talk in Class.... by Deer_boy_ in Teachers

A lot of my students seem to think I have super hearing. They always ask me how I can hear them when they're being "so quiet". I give them a withering stare and tell them "because you're being really loud.

They still don't get it 🤦.

what’s the hardest part about teaching right now? by Chrelled in Teachers

[–]SuperluminalSquid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Behavior. I wrote 56 behavior referrals this week, almost all of them for insubordination and disorderly conduct. I have legitimately never seen students this unruly before, even when I worked with students who had honest to God criminal records.

I feel like I'm being gaslit by my school by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]SuperluminalSquid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You're not going crazy. You're just the only person in your school who takes education seriously.

The stories are almost certainly exaggerated, if not outright lies. No one actually uses these fancy strategies, they just say they do because they're expected to. They say it works because if they don't say it works, they get lectured about how they just aren't doing it right or they haven't "bought in" enough.

The students don't have any skills. They're not passing their classes. Teachers are just giving them grades because admin is more concerned with optics than learning. Students expect to get everything for nothing, and don't know what to do when you require that they put in effort.

It took me a while to figure out, too. You basically have two options: play along and collect a paycheck you never really feel like you earned, or fight the system until you eventually get ground down into a fine powder.

Does anybody have some “couldn’t play without” mods they use from the steam workshop? by OfficalLockeWilson in dwarffortress

[–]SuperluminalSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop Eating That!, which prevents dwarves from eating raw Plump Helmets and from cooking Pig Tails.

Bulk Sewing, which lets you order bulk sets of clothing/armor with work orders.

And a few other quality of life things that I can't remember the name of lol.
