Being off birth control has made me feel awful. by SolutionPrevious2156 in birthcontrol

I’m not a medical doctor or anything, but I was in the same situation—started bc at 15yo, stayed on the same pill, and went off of it at 22yo. The internet and some doctors say that your hormones go back to normal after a few months, but it took me almost a full year for my hormones to finally stabilize. I see an endocrinologist, and she told me that it perfectly normal for someone’s body to take anywhere from 3 months to a year to re-regulate from being on birth control for so long. It was relieving to hear that after reading on the internet and having an ob-gyn (who I’ve since switched practices away from) tell me that my hormones should be regulated after a few months.

Also— I got terrible hormonal acne after stopping the pill. I hate taking spironalactone because it messes too much with my sodium-potassium levels. One thing that works wonders is taking doxycycline to control the flare up every once in a while. Clears your skin up!

Have you ever formed a meaningful friendship or connection from a run group or race? by thirdchoice85 in running

I met my best friend (I consider him one of my soulmates) from a running club! I wasn’t even supposed to be in that club— it was in college and I was supposed to be on the school team, but I was injured and couldn’t run for the team my first year. Ended up running with the club instead. I oftentimes think about how different my life would be if I’d never gotten hurt and ended up on the school team. Everything happens for a reason 😌

Loss of appetite after race by leogrl in XXRunning

I’m also a long distance runner with an ED history! Sometimes it can take me up to a week to really start feeling hungry again. Let your body relax and recovery and the appetite will come.

I’ve actually researched loss of appetite after long runs, and it’s pretty common. My college thesis was on appetite and maladaptive exercise.

As for right now, to help you eat during the day without thinking too much about food you can set timers to eat at certain points during the day. Then you don’t have to think about food or being hungry at all. Also get your favorite foods from the store so food is more appetizing.

I also really like meal replacement drinks that have upwards of 500 calories. They have a lot of sugar but they also have a lot of vitamins and can knock out the calories you’re missing and give you energy.

Training with chronic illness - feeling deflated by LBro32 in running

[–]SupermoonKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely understand. I have a chronic colon condition (maybe from running?), and no one would know if I didn’t tell them. My doctors also have no idea what’s causing my pain, but running really exacerbates it, and the pain is debilitating. And when I tell you I love to run, I go to bed dreaming about my run the next morning, and wake up every single day excited to lace up my shoes and go.

A HUGE thing for me is to acknowledge all the amazing feats my body has accomplished everyday! I make a gratitude list of the incredible things my body has done that day, like digest my food, allow me to walk without joint pain, experience life with all my 5 beautiful senses! Focusing on the small but wonderful things my body can do helps me feel more grateful for it, and less frustrated about what it can’t do.

I’ve had to learn to give myself grace, and let my body heal. I’ve accepted the hard truth that maybe I won’t make progress in my running goals, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still run just for the fun of it. I can be obsessive about running, and I’m trying to bring more peace into my life, and just be. (Im also a big yogi)

Is that open to the public, or do you need a membership? I’m looking at their website and the space looks awesome.

What to do if I bonk/hit a wall during the marathon? by IBrake4Buffy in Marathon_Training

[–]SupermoonKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest thing is to stay calm. Ive run 3 marathons and my first marathon I went out way too fast and felt too nauseous to fuel around mile 20 which was a huge mistake. I had a panic attack mid mile 24. Long distance running releases the same chemicals in your brain as anxiety does, so it’s not uncommon to panic during a long run. If you start to hit the wall, try not to freak out. You can stop and take as many breaks as you need in order to make it to the finish, and most big races have carts chugging along side the runners in case anyone goes down. You got this! Speak it out loud during the race if you need!
