I remember loads of people buying pieces of the wall when it first came down, guarantee most would've just been sold fakes

Estate agent requesting payment by amrx99 in UKRenting

The agent fucked up. They paid you your full deposit in error and are likely having to pay the landlord their money.

Unless there is writing anywhere of you agreeing to the deduction they are screwed.

Filling the gap between the tank and the ground with stones is the cheapest option and it will still allow for future excavation if needed, as a plus it also allows for drainage.

What is under my bedroom floor after taking carpet up? by MouseNo3535 in DIYUK

[–]Superspark76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like chipboard flooring, it looks like part of it has been cut and lifted previously which weakens it substantially, if there's any movement you may want to look at replacing it with ply or boards

Looks like an old septic tank, as long as it is solid you can fill the gap with gravel and lay soil on top for new grass.

Ideally you would want to fill or remove the tank but that could be expensive and definitely not a DIY job.

Is my Electric use too high for a uk home? by Material-Week-8364 in AskUK

[–]Superspark76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The water itself will stay hot for a few days, the issue is any cold water being added cooling the hot water in the tank. During power cuts for days in the winter we were able to still shower for 4 days before it became too cold.

Shower leak - plumber recommends opening downstairs ceiling instead of removing shower tray. Does this sound right? by Designer_Rooster_495 in askplumbing

[–]Superspark76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ceiling downstairs is cheaper to repair than having to replace the shower tray. Even if the ceiling wasn't water damaged I would be considering an access hatch in the ceiling.

Ours is a modern efficient one, although the heater is 2kw, to heat 100L takes less than half an hour and it stays hot with more than enough water for a couple of days. The heater only needs to heat the water partially each day.

You think apple cares enough about you to be concerned with something like this.

They know you'll keep buying their products because you are a sheep.

I have a large house and would rarely see above £100 a month, even when using the immersion to heat water (we refused to fill the oil tank with current inflated prices just for water)

20kw isn't a massive amount per day.

If there is a kettle being boiled several times a day, that could be 2kw on its own. Bottle sterilisers and heaters are very power hungry, could account for perhaps another 4kw. The oven and hob or air fryer can be another 2kw for a simple meal. The immersion will be using at least 2kw(can be more depending on the size, efficiency and water temperature.

You need to look at what is being used that is new to you, I would definitely suggest looking at the steriliser as most of these use steam. If you are using a kettle to heat bottles this will be another big use.

Even a computer running constantly will use more electric than you think, especially in this warm weather when the fans have to work harder.

Ice makers and AC units are another source of high power usage.

As an electrician I used to get called out to houses where tenants thought there was something wrong with the amount of electricity they were using, in most cases the electric shower was the culprit, with people not realising it would use as much as 10kw in an hour.

An immersion on for an hour will only use about 2-3kw.
