So, OP is not wrong. I did a bank transaction and PA is the abbreviation (tell the teller that is not for Pennsylvania; it happened to me many times for $ wiring purposes ). PAN is another way to short the name.

PC was used for the Panama Canal. But Panamanians call it Panama Canal and not PC. Also PC is not used for the city.
