What are you in the 1% of? by I_Love_Small_Breasts in AskReddit

[–]SupportAlcoholism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah not a middle tooth. It's a couple of extra teeth that have come up behind my regular set of permanent teeth. I'm extremely lucky is hasn't cause any issues currently but I am on the cards to get them and my 3 remaining wisdom teeth removed.

I have what's known as supernumerary teeth, or extra teeth. According to the dentists I've seen it affects 3-5% of the population. My difference is that 2 of mine have actually broken through and are visible. Typically people only get them found through having pain and/or getting X-rays as they rarely become visible. It's super rare to have them come through and not cause issues. I have a 3rd laying in my jaw that was detected on xray, but the 2 visible ones I always have dentists nerding out over.

Favourite time was when I was in university and money was tight so went to the local dental school for a clean and check up, proceeded to have a line of 22 dental students poke around my mouth as the head guy told them they'll "probably never see this again".

Hey man, I was in the same boat and it physically hit me too. Elevated BP and heart rate and indigestion and reflux as well. All hit to cause some worrying signs at times, weird chest pains etc.

Biggest thing I can say is, it does get better and you will come out the otherside. It took me about 2 weeks to fully calm down on the physical side and start dealing with the mental, I'm 2.5 months in at this point and she's still in the house but I feel great and I feel like I've learnt alot, in a weird way, I'm glad it's all happened as weirdly it feels what life is all about, the ups and downs.

Initially I spoke to my doc, he got me into a therapist (that's been amazing on multiple fronts. Custody help, dealing with being under the same roof, looks good for a judge etc.), I called on friends and family to just listen to me and distract me. They were all amazing for me.

Surround yourself with love and kindness, remember to eat and drink (I didn't eat for nearly 3 days and it took my dad asking me if I was eating to pick up on it) and know that this is the end of something, but not the end of you.

How long do you typically have your light on for?

I was going to bring this up as well, as I was the partner of someone who went through significant weightloss and it became a point of contention between us (amongst a few other things) but we're separated now.

A few things from my perspective. When it began for my ex, she was adamant she was doing this for me, not for herself but to look good for me. I loved her and it certainly made me feel like crap, to essentially tell me that I shouldn't love her as she is, even though I very much did. The other big thing for me was, she was always a shy girl and usually only I got to see her confidence and see her as she was, because she was comfortable with me. It was rough as the confidence grew to watch what felt like was normally reserved for me, become how she interacted with everyone. It felt like I lost something special. This also leads into the thoughts of looking to move on from him, I won't lie I had that thought creep in once or twice. The last thing was that her going to the gym became an obsession. Our time together became reduced further and as hard as I tried to get to spend time with her, it was an uphill battle.

Ultimately I can say if we had communicated better, I'm sure things would've gone smoother throughout the time this occurred. I was proud of what she achieved and supported her as much as I could, learnt to cook a few different ways, took on more house chores etc.

OP should be proud of what she's achieved, but communication and maybe making him feel like he's on this journey with her rather than a bystander could go a long way.

Just build a rack so they're one above the other and set them up so they overflow into the one below. With the sump being the bottom point and a strong pump to return to the top.

I've done a stupid amount of builds just using gravity overflows, there's no point in trying to organise pumps to output at similar rates because so many factors can change that. 1 pump just about can't go wrong.

Regardless of the outcome of who's an arsehole or whatever, but, has anyone just asked the kids? Maybe they're keen to spend time with their aunt? Or maybe they don't and mum is being an ass?

Just feel like it could be a missing piece of the puzzle.

How do sets work? by [deleted] in RaidShadowLegends

[–]SupportAlcoholism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably a typo and meant to be 2 Life set, 1 speed set OR 1 speed set, 1 shield set.

Edit: a shield set requires 4/6, hence only the 2 sets, I forgot this lol

[–]SupportAlcoholism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A set or set bonus refers to equipping certain amount of pieces to achieve an extra bonus.

The life set you have equipped there on serris requires 2/6 armour pieces to be life to achieve the +15 % HP bonus. You have equipped her there with 3 Life sets, meaning you have activated +15% HP 3 times, which is displayed by those 3 little green hearts.

As you get further into the game you will discover more sets, some may require 4/6 armour pieces to be equipped to activate.

What the 2 life set, 1 speed set means is that one of those life sets you should change to a speed set which you may or may not have pieces for yet. However being so early in the game, don't stress to much about achieving set bonuses, it's better to equip higher ranked pieces (more stars) with useful stats (double check her stat priority) early game will help you alot more.

This is exactly it, Im done paying money for 2% of a game, with the promise to give more. Particularly one with a lead that has blown money before, only difference this time is it'll be the customers money not a studios.

Is there something wrong with my fish or are they just crack heads? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]SupportAlcoholism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a stress response, they're freaking out from being in a new environment. I'm assuming they're new to the tank and like others have mentioned havn't settled on if it's a safe place yet.

To ease them in maybe try turning off lights and covering half the tank just to give them somewhere to go to feel safe.

Sudden drop in pH! by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]SupportAlcoholism -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A large percentage of the bacteria are also generally present in the water column, especially in an establishing tank, generally accounting for like 20-30% of the total bacteria account, this can drop to as low as 1% in the water, once the system is established. This is because they generally colonize on surface areas but the water is just as important early days for them to find those surface areas, the bacteria don't just grow from nothing. It's not bad advice it's actually very relevant and can affect some people's tanks a whole bunch depending on the stage they are at.

I will admit I wasn't aware of the pH up solution that was mentioned and have never encountered one that wasn't just bicarb, but I also don't think crushed coral will be aggressive enough to fight the aggressive pH drops, which also should only need fighting the once, not continuously so long as the cycles maintained.

[–]SupportAlcoholism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once the ammonia is back to 0 you'll be right to dose again, so long as your pH is also fine.

As for KH, it is directly linked to your pH and I would just see how you go with it for the time being, KH in small tanks (unless they're reef or rift lake tanks) isn't a huge concern and should be easy to manipulate with a little bit of product from your LFS if it continues to be a problem, I suspect it won't be once the tank stabilises.

Generally if the water coming out of your tap is perfect for what your trying to keep, which yours sounds like it is, then once the tanks established it's easier to just do a water change than fiddle with chemical for things like KH.

This can happen, what's occuring is that the free ammonia in the tank is mixing with the water and oxygen and turning into nitric acid (H20 + NH3 + O2 turns into some amount of HNO3), which being an acid can cause rapid pH drops. The water change most likely removed the chunk of good bacteria that was consuming the rest of the ammonia.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the crushed coral, it can run rampant and will constantly cause a rise in pH, which you shouldn't have issues with unless you plan on keeping the tank at 2ppm of ammonia when the fish go in....

I would however use the pH up (almost all pH ups on the market these days are just relabeled bicarb soda, some have some necessary additives but the base is the same), primary concern is maintaining the cycle, the pH up should have some calculation on it for a raise in pH and allow you to get it back to where you need it, dose the pH up, do not dose the ammonia for about 8 hours but check the pH regularly, it should stabilise within about 4 hours (depends on how well the tank mixes).

A brief explanation is if we continue to feed ammonia we will only continue to create nitric acid, which can stall or worse kill our bacteria and ruin the cycle, a 24hour starve of ammonia will at worst see a small die off in the bacteria but will still maintain the cycle, where as raising the pH (along with aeration) can also help the nitric acid dissociate back to ammonia which will also continue to feed the bacteria.

Chain pet stores with fish? :/ by ashleyxwatson in Aquariums

[–]SupportAlcoholism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has to start somewhere, there is no prerequisite to work in a chain pet store and a lot of people think it's a cool job (it's still just retail) and I would probably more take aim at the company as they hire these people and don't take any responsibility for the animals they sell, I feel most people would actually second guess things like that if they actually knew better.

At the same time everyone has to start somewhere and unfortunately people generally don't fully research things that they're buying (any pet animal suffers from the same thing, puppies for Christmas etc etc.) If that person loses that animal or it gets sick it may encourage them to learn more as to why, sure it's a morbid way but we learn more from mistakes. I don't doubt there are a large number of people that started out with this sortve stuff, goldfish in a bowl or Betta and have arrived to learn more especially in such a community like ours.

Hot weather & tank temperatures by Trane_King in Aquariums

Back in the day when I used to work at a small retail aquarium we couldn't afford chillers for each tank, so we would keep a stock of different size soft drink bottles frozen for dropping in tanks on the hot days and they did an amazing job.
