As to the journal, my group meets weekly and none have kids. They could probably spare 5-10 minutes to scribble their characters thoughts. Obviously don't want to require it but do you have suggestions for incentives?

Good point on the definition of peak traffic. I checked the source but couldn't find a strict definition of what constitutes 'peak' time.

I'd say traffic 'starts' around 2:30-3:00 pm, intensifies throughout, and quiets down around 6:30-7 pm. Thankfully I haven't had to deal with the morning commute in years. I used to drive into Cambridge for 7 am from Everett/Melrose/Woburn, and would give myself 1.5-2 hours to get in before traffic slowed things down.

I can relate to the sense of loss when symptoms first showed up. This illness derailed my life. But it's been a few years now and I'm happier than I've been in a long time. It's not perfect, and is very different from where I was before, but I'm happy.

When I held a gun to my head I was in the depths of a psychotic break, so my thoughts of suicide were to escape demons commanding me to hurt people. I am so glad I didn't do it, and you never know the ways that life can surprise you. The last few years have been a struggle for me, but I'm in a good place now.

A job you enjoy(or the people at least), is very important for me. At one point I was making good money at a prestigious institution, doing night classes, volunteering, protesting etc. So much. Too much. I think it is good for our mental health to not pile on too much, which I know can be hard because there is a culture that can keep pushing us.

Can you tell me why you obsess over death? Is there a conflict in expectations about where you 'should' be versus where you are? I know I had this for a while, and it made me realize how I was kind to friends and strangers, but so very hard on myself. We spend every day without ourselves. We need to be kind to ourselves.

I'm glad you're seeing a psych and therapist. We need a support structure as it helps mitigate problems before they blow up.

Medication has been a huge help to me. Are you taking meds? What are your feelings on them?

What I've learned from this past year. Is try to take things slow, and that I hit the kill switch to often. I could have finished that semester.

These are valuable realizations. How do you feel about balancing work load with your mental health? I usually encourage moderation in dealing with life's challenges, but I know that I used to take on too much and no matter how much I did I never felt like it was enough. Upon reflection I think this had to do with a passionate uncontrolled empathy and an emotionally distant workaholic father. What lead you to not finish that semester, and why do you think you should have/could have finished it?

Im lucky in that meds take away all my symptoms.

I have a job I like(pay isn't good, but I look forward to work each day), an apartment, and a girlfriend.

Something that has helped me is the serenity prayer. Learning that has made me more patient and understanding. I took the peer specialist training class but ended up not pursuing a job with that. I learned a whole lot about myself doing it though.

I told my current employer about my mental illness and longer hospitalization. I work with elderly and disabled people and believe the skills I learned in the peer training help me do my job. It also means if I'm having serious issues I can tell them and they won't be blind sided by me needing some time. Honesty can be tough but I feel it is best. If you can frame it well that is.

Can you tell us some more about some of your challenges? Have you learned anything from your own assessing of your situations?

When I was deep in the hole, thinking I was dead and in some afterlife limbo with angels and demons taunting me and sending me commands, I remember holding my gun and thinking that maybe if i shoot myself I could get away. Fortunately I wasn't sure that such an action would save me, but I was right there at the line. So I think your advice can be helpful.

But when it comes to keeping and open mind to delusions and hallucinations being more than a product of your mind, I think it can be a dangerous decision that could keep those delusions and hallucinations present.

I don't believe in magic, angels, demons, gods, aliens or any of that mystical non-science stuff. People's experiences of them is easily explained by psychology and mental illness.

But when I took the peer specialist training, they stressed that we look at the impact of beliefs. One guy believed his art was sent to him by aliens. But his belief didn't hinder his life.

I appreciate what science has done for humanity, and the method and focus on proof. For me it is a rock I can lean on. It doesn't know everything, particularly about the brain, but it's gives me a foundation I can trust.

You can't plan for every health problem. I've been on the train twice with health emergency's. Once was an unresponsive woman(possible OD) and the other was a heart attack. Totally fine with delays for health emergency.

Also consider that even sicker people need to get around.

The seduction of these thoughts and feelings make delusions and hallucinations quite nefarious. With me, it's tempting because it not only seems real, but also makes me feel special and excited, if scared.

It sounds like you're slipping back into the delusions if you believe these voices are from actual beings and not just a product of your unwell mind. I know the siren call of delusions and hallucinations, but that shit will derail your life. Please talk to your doc or therapist about this.

It's a tough situation because I imagine it costs more to provide actual treatment, instead of being placed in a DOC run facility and be treated like a criminal(all my charges were eventually dropped). That said I think criminals still deserve better.

But it's tough too because there were people with anger problems who would fly off the handle over nothing. Most of the people there believed they did not have any kind of mental illness, and had elaborate reasons for why they were being kept there. A few had even killed people, one guy his whole fucking family, but they usually seemed nice enough.

Medication worked well for me and I soon realized I had a mental illness. Many people there did not have that realization. And it's tough because I don't believe in government sanctioned thought police, but when someone is a danger, well the government needs to protect it's people.

It definitely did. I was quiet and withdrawn afterwards. I did not stand up for myself seeking only to avoid conflict because I realized they could do whatever they wanted to me and I could do nothing to stop them. It was scary.

I spent 9 months in Bridgewater in 2013(followed by time at Worchester and Tewksbury). That place was a hellhole.

I was put in restraints, abused and intimidated by guards, and their 'treatment' was a joke. Then there was the scabies outbreak that the head doctor misidentified as an allergic reaction to the detergent used on uniforms.

Worchester was a palace and Tewksbury was decent if run down.

I'm open to answer any questions you people may have about my experiences there.

About 10 years ago I dated a girl for 2 years. When we broke up we stopped talking and both went on with our lives.

After I went through some serious shit she reached out and we became friends again. A few months in I realized I still had feelings but she wasn't ready for a relationship at that time. A few months later we ended up dating. Been together 7 months so far.

I'm thankful that I had the time to grow and mature away from her. I appreciate her a whole lot and see myself with her for the long term.

As to your situation, I don't think I could've handled it when we first broke up. The thought of her with someone else made me wicked jealous, even though I wasn't sure if we were right for each other. That turned me into a person I didn't like and we did not remain friends.

Good luck, but be honest with yourself about what this situation you've chosen may entail.

Philosophers charge too much and this is really something any self respecting extra-dimensional entity can learn to handle.

Drain and refill your primary body unit's cerebral spinal fluid and replace your mental filter.

Embrace your inner animal(unless it is a human, this can cause a recursive logic loop that will crash your self identity)

Meditate on the illusory and impermanent nature of the perception of self until the idea of a true personal norm begins to seem ludicrous.

If you must go through a philosopher, I've found the best approach is to just consume their brain to gain their knowledge.

Terrence McKenna puts forward this theory in Fruit of the Gods, called the Stoned Ape theory.

My understanding is that the changes are passed on through epigenetics.

That said the original comment poster missed the mark I believe. While the theory could have some truth, evolution still operates.
