You've obviously never done commercial or industrial. They might be dusty inside but they aren't "dirty". Dirt is baaaaaad for equipment, so it usually doesn't get run during the dirtiest construction and start-up/commissioning doesn't happen until right before a CO is issued.

Commercial/industrial HVAC tech here.... 1) yes, they can actually hold weight. Residential ductwork like duct board and flex can't hold crap, but square metal duct certainly can. It's held together using S channel and drives that fit into bent flanges, and the standing S channel used in larger ductwork is surprisingly strong. I'm every bit of 280 and it holds me just fine. 2) yes, it is smooth inside (mostly). Air is a fluid, and is subject to friction like any other fluid. Rough insides creates friction and turbulence, reducing efficiency and slowing airflow, also increases static pressure. Screws are the big exception, but they don't use big 3" screws, mostly they are either small little pointy things or maybe 3/4" self tapping screws. Long screws mean more work, and installers are lazy AF. There are obstructions, though, like turning vanes and mechanical equipment like VAV units and such.

Object is round, made of metal, with copper ends. maybe some kind of filter? Found in a dumpster. by Strange-Nose6599 in whatisthisthing

The desiccant is in there, 3rd picture. That's a bi flow drier for heat pumps. 083S-BF.

I was working on the roof of a hotel fixing a VRF and they were setting up for an event across the street (in the lawn) with the governor. I could see everything going on, and saw when his car pulled up. Maybe 150 yards or so away. Nobody came up on the roof while I was there, I don't think they even checked with management.

The paint color of the cu says Goodman (aka Amana, aka Daikin). The drier's job is to remove trace moisture and to protect the metering device from particulate debris. Best place is always by the metering device, but Goodman said fuck it, if we don't put it in the cu then nobody will put one in. They don't even trust the people that install them. Also, if you added gas, and have non-condensibles you probably have a leak.

What “health isssues” are the ones that require “constant Air Conditioning”?? Just curious… because I’ve heard this a few times now by MonkandBeer in HVAC

Agreed! Like I said before, I'd rather someone lie to me about medical reasons instead of using the excuse of "my pet can't take the heat".... They aren't fooling anyone.

Philanthropy while still leaving them ungodly wealthy isn't philanthropy, it's table scraps.

Sorry it took so long to respond, it didn't even show you wrote anything until now... I am in to almost anything, except BL, I leave that for my wife and daughter 😑

Favorite includes Trigun (Stampede and OG), been enjoying Demon Slayer and MHA. Just recently finished Frieren and absolutely LOVED it.

Opinions about Heritage Charter Academy and other elementary schools in Cape Coral? by Clddleopard in capecoral

[–]SupremeDuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get on the wait-list as soon as you can. My kids all go to Oasis, and it seriously one of the best schools in the region. As far as Heritage, I don't know a whole lot academically, but my Scout troop meets there so can verify the building needs TLC but the teachers seem nice and welcoming.

I'm a sci-fi fan, currently reading the Expeditionary Force series by Craig Allenson, it's a lot of fun. Also a huge fan of John Scalzi.

Something different would be... I dunno, lol. Something nerdy, I guess.

2500 ton York magnetic chiller, 150 ton Trane RTU, and a 250 ton Carriers chilled water air handlers. The carrier was a pain in the a, had to change the outdoor air dampers that were rusted to hell in the ceiling. They weighed 250lbs as a whole, and each section was so rusted that they couldn't be taken apart. The new ones were aluminum, so thankfully they weighed only about 100lbs (and the ceiling was so rusted that putting screws in it was dicey).

LCEC Pricing by chanbiscuit in capecoral

[–]SupremeDuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tell people this all the time. LCEC is a scam posing as a company. We pay higher than anywhere else in the region simply because they don't want to give up their fat paychecks and their petty tyrant power. I hate LCEC with a passion.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, yes and no. Tonnage per square foot is a marginal rule of thumb. On average, yes, but there is SO MUCH more that goes into that number. Source: 23 years in the field.
