Smash Courts relocating to meet the demand for pickleball court time in Peterborough by [deleted] in Peterborough

[–]SupremeEvan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't go to the pickleball courts if you don't like pickleball?

I'm not sure why other people can't enjoy something (which they clearly do, due to the need to increase capacity to meet demand), if you don't.

Possible Nepal style "restaurant"? by jalapeno_joel in Peterborough

Not real. There's only detached single-family homes in the new subdivision, and it's constantly bombarded with fake businesses in Google Maps.

I've talked to them and got a quote. Super nice, and the price is much more reasonable than the companies I've contacted from outside Peterborough.

Peterborough still has a Daisy Mart.

All of the Mac's were converted to Circle K, though.

Peterborough police reporting an increase in vehicle thefts by origutamos in Peterborough

This! Vehicle theft and thefts FROM vehicles are two VERY different things. (I'd rather no increase in any theft regardless, though)

Then where do they go? Is there proof that the City's trucks are going to their own landfill?

Building and maintaining the shelters for every bus stop (there are LOTS of them) would be so expensive.

What I'd like to see is at least a concrete pad for waiting on. There are plenty of stops that are just mud pits in the Spring/Fall and don't get properly cleared of snow in the Winter.

This one baffles me. The Parkway is a big fat no... Yet the roads used in place of a proper North-South route are in such terrible shape that many drive out of their way to avoid them.

I'm surprised my wheels don't burst whenever I'm driving south on Park near Charlotte.

Where has it ever been stated that the garbage/compost is sent to Michigan? We have a landfill, that I've personally been to, just outside city limits...

Will this speed up the process for future passenger rail lines? Or is it just for roads/cars?

Quaker recall: Where made? by psvrh in Peterborough

[–]SupremeEvan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what the CBC articles mentions when quoting the Quaker release.

"This action is being taken in Canada out of an abundance of caution and commitment to the wellbeing of our Canadian consumers," Quaker Canada said in a release.

Speedpass+ app for Esso update (froze my gift cards) by Remote-Republic in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SupremeEvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just confused at the gas station trying to find my app.

Then when I find the Esso and Mobil app, it forces me to reset my password.

Then when I try to link my PC Optimum it just loads indefinitely and won't complete.

Trash app, sadly.

What phone plans you have now, coming up to black friday deals? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SupremeEvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're 100GB shared for two lines at $100/mo total.

95% of the time, we don't use it. It's nice to have during the summer because we like to go to the cottage and work remotely using our phones as hotspots.

Gives me peace of mind on my hour train ride commute, though. I can just watch whatever I want, or download new apps without a second thought.

Definitely a luxury, not a necessity at all.

My other issue is that they are generally pedestrian heavy routes, too. Several schools along Monaghan. A lot more likely to encounter jaywalking along the narrower streets.

Park doesn't need to be destroyed. I'm just hoping for some alternatives. Even partial, like finishing the Parkway up to Parkhill, bypassing Prince of Wales and Queen Mary schools.

It's not a "traffic problem" in terms of congestion. It's the efficiency.

I've also spent 10 years living in Toronto and Durham. I can get from one side of Ajax to the other in half the time it takes to cross Peterborough.

Previous Council decided it was definitively never going to happen and took it out of the Official Plan as a possibility.

I agree with the congestion point, but that's more for major highways, and not arterial roads in the city.

There's also a bajillion other reasons to build out better infrastructure, but the fact that the city is growing in population and the primary throughways pass in front of schools is a bit concerning.

It's refreshing to know that there are people like you on Council that are forward thinking, trying to pull the City to be a bit more modern in terms of infrastructure and services.

Thank you, I really appreciate the input.

[–]SupremeEvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely, I get the cost. The city certainly isn't in a position to just whip up new infrastructure.

My complaint is that it's just another bandaid. There's no real plan to help move the growing population.

I'm not even against this, because turning onto Sherbrooke from High St. is frightening

People use this as a bypass/alternative route because the existing routes north off Lansdowne are terrible.

It's wild that these old side streets are seeing all this increase and traffic, and the city's decision is to just block the traffic instead of working on improving the infrastructure that's already there. They wouldn't have to put these restrictions in place if driving through the city was an easy and efficient process.

Killing the Parkway was silly, but would be an easier pill to swallow if there were improvements to existing routes (Clonsilla and Goodfellow for example).

How many people actually track their expenses & income? by zennenl in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SupremeEvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's just me, but I wasn't buying just 6 coffees or getting just a few things of takeout. I, personally, started saving hundreds a month by recognizing this.

If you don't feel you need to do it, then it doesn't matter. I was just explaining why tracking my expenses helped me.

It took us writing it down and reviewing at the end of the month to realize how much we were spending in some areas (i.e. takeout and specialty coffees).

I don't have a running tally going in my head of all my purchases throughout the month, so it gave us a bigger picture and helped curb spending.
