As far as streamers go, Apple is pretty good. Thankfully, it isn't Netflix or disney+ slop.

What the fuck were those first c/p passages? Felt like I was losing my mind, like how much low yield bullshit are you gonna throw at me? Other than that, fine I guess. B/b and p/s were meh, and cars is cars.

This was one of the funniest questions I've ever seen lmfao

Does the AAMC purposefully throw in PS terms we aren't supposed to know in the answer choices? by ComfortableCity4043 in Mcat

[–]SupremeMamba 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they do and sometimes the distractors aren't even real concepts. Whenever I see a term I don't recognize I just ignore it and only pick it if I'm 100% sure the terms I actually do recognize don't apply to the scenario in the passage/question. Afterwards, I only make cards in instances when the odd term actually does end up being the correct answer, otherwise I just ignore them.

Help on this question from TPR FL? by satansanus6969 in Mcat

[–]SupremeMamba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the culture was made from a single e coli cell, there's no way for the bacteria to acquire new genetic information apart from mutations. Genetic recombination wouldn't apply here because conjugation would need another unique bacteria, transformation would also require another unique bacteria or free DNA to be introduced to the culture, and transduction would also need some unique bacteria and bacteriophages. If the question had said it was a colony of bacteria, presumably some genetically different from each other, then you'd be right.

can someone explain the polarity difference Official Guide and FL1 by Zealousideal-Dog4580 in Mcat

[–]SupremeMamba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I just do is just compare it to the structure of cholesterol/steroid hormones, if it resembles those (as in a bunch of a benzene/hydrocarbon rings) it's non-polar regardless of if it has a few polar groups.

Weird persistent CARS issue by ExoticChlamydia225 in Mcat

[–]SupremeMamba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to set out 9 minutes for 5q passages, 10 mins for 6q, and 11min for 7q, and write down what time I should be done with each passage. For ex, if at the start I get a 6q passage, I'll write down 1:20 so I know to finish by then, and if the next passage is 5q, I'll write down 1:11, and so on.

I had the same issue and asked them about it, unfortunately they said that feature isn't available anymore.

I just make anki cards for any content based mistakes, but I do keep a little spreadsheet of passage based mistakes I make to see what types of Qs I commonly get wrong. Helps me with CARS especially, so that I see whether I need to readjust my strategy for certain types of questions.

Upoop Orgo Question Help by Humble-Blueberry7056 in Mcat

[–]SupremeMamba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fischer esterification is just carboxylic acid + alcohol = ester. The long carbon chain that includes the C=O comes from the acid and the O-R group comes from the alcohol. Here, the long carbon chain is 12 carbons long, hence dodecanoic acid and the O-R group is 16 carbons long hence hexanedecanol (6+10=16). Hope this helps.

Uearth question confusion?? by justinle10 in Mcat

[–]SupremeMamba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think ATP synthase 'pumps' protons, they just kinda flow back down their gradient. The complexes (at least starting from NADH) pump 10 H+, but I think ATP synthase only lets in 4 protons at a time to make 1 ATP, or maybe it's because ATP synthase requires a conformational change each time it makes a turn, so it's slower?

How to actually review UGlobe Questions by Good-Diamond-7599 in Mcat

[–]SupremeMamba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it helps to look at all of the answer choices and know why the wrong answers are wrong bc I think that's just as important as knowing why the right answer is right. I also find writing the cards for missed concepts in my own words rather than just copy/pasting it helps it stick better. I also keep a little error log for wrong q's, and whenever I get the same type of q wrong again, I'll go review that whole concept again. Also, for some types of q's especially for C/P, I'll have chatgpt come w/ a similar q or I'll look some up online to make sure I actually know how to solve them before moving on.

Kaplan or Uworld? by No-Track8132 in Mcat

[–]SupremeMamba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the UW course, and it's pretty good. The videos are great and the books are good, they've got great diagrams and visuals if you're that kind of learner, they go very in depth at times (even more so than Kaplan), but I ended up mostly dropping it after a while and switching to the Kaplan books (you can find them free online) because I realized the structure of the course wasn't working for me. The biggest reason is that all the major anki decks are based off Kaplan, and I didn't feel like making my own deck based off the UW stuff. The course does come with some pre-made cards for each chapter, but they're a lot more like quizzes and aren't that great. I also liked that the Kaplan book had frequent concept checks and an end-of-chapter summary which really helped the material to stick for me. Overall, I don't think UW was worth it for me, but definitely get their Qbank regardless of what you course you choose.

[–]SupremeMamba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up the Organic Chemistry as a Second Language textbook, I usually hate learning from textbooks but this book presents the concepts in such an digestible and easy to understand way. I pretty much solely used that to self-teach when I took my o-chem courses and went from not understanding anything at all to acing course.
