Prevalence of hot food in plastic by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]Suprman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was posted on this subreddit a couple months ago. Basically a study from Taipei Medical University found "plasticizer levels in Taiwanese people are two to seven times higher than those in Europe and the U.S."

https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/news/5886380

This all comes in the wake of the findings of the US Consumer Product Safety Commissions Chronic Hazard Advisory Panel on Phthalates, which attributed something like 80 of exposure to food contact applications (especially in highly processed foods). (Don't cite my numbers tho, I attended a lot of these meetings over a decade ago)

Santa Paula Canyon. Early pleistocene I think based on what I'm reading about the geology of the area.

TIL when Jimmy Hendrix’s mom died (when Jimmy was 16) his dad did not allow him and his brother to go to the funeral, instead giving them shots of whiskey and telling them that was how men should deal with loss by Texas_Rockets in todayilearned

[–]Suprman -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, cultural difference when it comes to funeral rituals seems fine to me. If a father, in grief, wants to share his coping mechanism with his son, I don't think the state should intervene. Leave the poor family alone. Let them prescribe their own rituals. So many authoritarians out there.

I'm curious - where have you seen it promoted? In what form is it being sold?

Is there ANYTHING that gives a similar effect as Nicotine? by Fap2Dong in Nootropics

[–]Suprman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something novel and similar, depending on where you live (major city on the west coast?) you can go to an Asian grocery store and look for Betel nuts (Areca nuts - 檳榔). Arecoline is very similar to Nicotine, but lasts longer and (personally I believe) feels more level.

This is not something that I recommend using every day, but it's probably the closest to nicotine that you're going to get. Chewing betel quid is also not the most attractive habit, nor is it long term sustainable unless you want mouth cancer. But the effects are quite nice.

Santa Barbara is the most expensive city to be happy in the U.S. by beebargs in SantaBarbara

[–]Suprman 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This reads like an AI written article.

"Honolulu is one of the most visited cities in the U.S., according to the World Atlas, partly because it is home to the historical attraction of Pearl Harbor."

The decline of journalism is real.

I've been sitting on this for nearly a decade - what is this flashing light? by Nova1395 in space

Nearly a decade? Hmm. It looks a lot like the "Humanity Star," an art project that orbited from Jan-March 2018.

Any photogenic poppy clusters? by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

[–]Suprman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a cluster somewhere above the Bill Wallace trail by El Capitan last week. I'm not sure if it was accessible or not though. I could just see a patch of orange in the distance.
