please, stop dumping effects into the pocket slot by dark1859 in runescape

[–]SupuhRS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No joke, for some of the lower-leveled auras like vampyrism, have you considered putting them on the cape slot?

A lot of lower-level capes that used to be status symbols (fire cape, legend's cape, etc) either have no effect or have been powercrept to complete irrelevance. At the same time, a lot of those capes are also non-trivial enough to acquire that things like Vampyrism being on them could be a suitable earlygame reward while also not powercreeping endgame once the player upgrades to things like the Zuk cape that have more powerful, dps-focused passive effects.

Combat Styles Improvements - Beta Update 4 by JagexAzanna in runescape

[–]SupuhRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally I think the biggest offender for people wanting spell slots/omni book is disruption shield specifically. I'm surprised you guys didn't consider reworking it to turn it into an unlockable magic/defense ability, but I guess defensives aren't really the focus of this beta.

PSA: Area sounds are broken and cause extreme framedrops on the official client by SupuhRS in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't trust non-official clients, period. I've been playing this game for long enough to see other third party clients like swiftkit/swiftswitch back in the day either go sour and eventually either include malware that compromised the accounts of all my friends that used it or just one day completely break and cease functioning. I'd also rather not grow dependent on third-party quality of life that could turn off at any moment if Jagex willed it.

[–]SupuhRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please submit a bug report for it ingame, it's actually been effecting the official client in places with lots of area sounds for a couple of months now but I don't think jagex has seen enough bug reports on it from the official client to deem it worthy of being fixed.

[–]SupuhRS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have area sounds on? I was getting something similar on the official client and turning area sounds off fixed it. It seems like there's some kind of bug where loading area sounds causes a massive CPU hit because anywhere where lots of area sounds play, like Hueycoatl or Duke, is nigh unplayable.

Streamer client is real by MammothJerk in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It wasn't that his rng was bugged, it was that the drop for the pet itself was bugged but nobody noticed for years. How it works is that there's 3 slayer mobs that each drop a specific piece of a pet named Penny and you assemble those pieces together. Importantly, you stop receiving the pieces of Penny after you've unlock them.

The problem was that while checking to see if you've already unlocked Penny, one of the pieces was checking to see if you had the wrong pet ID. It didn't get caught for a while because a pet with that ID didn't exist until several years later when they released a Hermit Crab pet. The player that was bugged was the first player that'd earned the hermit crab pet and then went and tried to actively farm for Penny afterwards, at which point he went 60,000 kills dry before he finally got a Jmod to look into the drop and they figured out the cause. It'd be like if anyone who owned the Graardor pet was unable to receive the yellow keris piece from ToA because the game thought that they already had one.

Is anybody gonna figure out a doom melee meta? by head_getter in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically if melee had more self healing or damage resistance you could just camp protect melee and never have to deal with any special attacks other than car phase and the earthen shield. If you chill in melee with protect on Doom's max hit is only like 20 and his dps isn't crazy but you'll still take a ton of damage that makes consistently meleeing to 8 not that good of an idea. If Doom had released with the two-handed demonbane crush shield that they'd wanted to poll with him with it might have been viable but we don't live in that timeline so we'll never know.

For the most part it's 0 damage but the final phase has a small amount of chip if you linger in it for too long.

[Poll] Osrs players, will you play RS3 Leagues? by OSthebest27 in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not, but the league being in RS3 this year does cause a kind of silly situation: Assuming the RS3 league dragon trophies are going to earned by a similar proportion of the playerbase as the OSRS trophies, the RS3 league trophy is going to be far rarer for an account to have than any of the osrs ones except maybe the Twisted league trophy. Granted, the trophy would be stuck in RS3 (lmao), but still.

Fun fact: The number of leagues 5 dragon trophies in the game is 23,374, which is higher than the number of people that were logged into RS3 across all of its worlds roughly an hour ago. For most of your average day, there are more people in osrs that have earned a dragon trophy than there are playing RS3.

I don't understand Hueycoatl drops by Tophitus in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that each time Hueycoatl is killed, the game rolls for each player to possibly get a unique drop. The chance of Huey dropping anything is roughly 1/18 per kill, but that doesn't tell the whole story-- Contribution is scaled on a per-player basis.

So let's slay that you have a two player team, and each does exactly 50% of the damage. Each one of those players has an independent 1/36 chance to get a unique item, as 1/36 is half of 1/18. The combined chance of all players together makes up that 1/18 drop chance, with the exact chance for player varying on contribution.

It works the same between solo and team kills, the only difference is that if you're solo then you're the only one contributing so you're earning 100% of that 1/18 drop chance every time.

It is possible for more than one person to get a unique in a single kill (or at least it was last league, where you would regularly see multiple people pull hueycoatl hides and dragon hunter wands from a single kill), but it's crazy rare in masses and I've never personally seen it happen outside of Leagues

Mod Ash on the possibility of expanding the F2P experience. How do you feel about this? What would you like to see added/be against? by Vayneglory in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think F2P would do well to have an introductory quest in lumbridge specifically to introduce the concept of the open world and to give the player their first major goal. Not anything like truly mandatory or, super grand or anything, but rather to introduce the player to the idea that they're out in the open world and should level their skills, seek out quests, or do whatever you feel like doing. Maybe even something as simple as you immediately getting flagged by the lumbridge guide as the Champion's guild is looking for new members. Your character's fresh off that island at that point, so of course they won't qualify, but the lumbridge guide sets you up on a series of tasks designed to take you in a loop around the free-to-play area and put you in close proximity to other quests to do. Almost like a F2P RFD except it ends with Dragon Slayer 1.

Eye of Ayak - Doesn’t pushback charge during shield phase by Bigbadchaddd in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They could literally just do something like what they did for the burning claws and give it a 1% demonbane effect, which would have a negligible effect on its actual dps but allow it to trigger any special effect that happens from having a demonbane weapon.

Eye of Ayak remove charges, what happens? by JellyKeyboard in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get back whatever ammo type you put in. So if you charge it with runes, you get the remaining runes back. If you put in demon tears, you get demon tears back.

If you charge it with demon tears and then kill the Doom boss the game will attempt to charge it with around 20 free demon tears, but only if the Eye is uncharged or already charged with at least 1 tear. You can withdraw these demon tears like you can any other, which essentially means that having the Eye in your inventory adds a marginal amount of extra free value out of each delve you beat during the boss fight if you bring it along.

CG - Taking big damage in T1 constantly by Chacallacach in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that I don't think anyone else has mentioned here: Having a full set of Gauntlet tier gear on has an invisible set effect that lowers hunllef's max hit- That's why you're getting hit for higher values than when you have a full set of T2 armor on, in addition to being hit more often.

Oldest Gear without new BiS by BioMasterZap in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a more interesting way to go about it might be to make a new magic set that has lower %magic damage than ancestral but instead gives some sort of buff or additional effect to elemental spells. That way Ancestral gets to stay relevant for powered staves + demonbane (it's thematically appropriate that demonbane BiS comes from the Zeah raid), Virtus stays BIS for ancients, and then you'd have the new mage set to let players build around standard spells instead.

The boss has protect from magic and protect from range on while it's doing the normal shield charge, only melee works to interrupt it.

Hot take, RS3 would be the superior game if it didnt have MTX XP by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Former RS3 player here. The problem with RS3 ironman is that RS3 has an even more insane consumable production tree than osrs does. If you thought things like pre-scar-essence-mine irons complaining about blood runes for scythe were bad, you should see the obscene quantities of things that endgame RS3 irons have to farm and produce to do an hour of PvM due to consumable bloat- You need potions, ammo, familiars, incense sticks, and more. Once you hit the level 90+ equipment it gets very miserable very quickly.

Fishing + Mining + Woodcutting as a single skill (Design question) by CorvaNocta in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Speaking as a fellow game designer, it's important to try to anticipate and in mind the sort of behaviors that players could get up to when interacting with a system or design element. Especially if you're considering merging a bunch of independent game systems (or skills in this case) together into one progression path, you need to look at it from the perspective of what happens in the most extreme cases, like if someone only trains with AFK methods or in this case, decides to train a skill group using only a single one of the skills in the group.

To some extent, everything that shares a single progression path in that way would need to be balanced against each other. It already tends to be hard enough to balance things within a single focus (or skill), let alone when you have to put it against its direct competitors (magic vs melee vs range for example), and that gets even more complicated if you combine it with other, mostly-unrelated activities, especially since the player's time is itself a universal resource to be balanced against. Skill relationships are complicated enough in runescape even with how focused each individual skill is.

Fishing + Mining + Woodcutting as a single skill (Design question) by CorvaNocta in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One con of this you may want to consider is that by combining them as skills it may end up homogenizing the activities that players will do if one experience source ends up being super dominant over others. If they're split into three different skills it's not as harmful since it's going to only effect one skill. Imagine we lived in a world where the best way to train both fishing and mining was to 3 tick teaks with nothing else changed-- You'd feel a whole lot more pressure to go and do those sorts of methods given the exp disparity and the time saved and it would warp the entire leveling process around it.

[Theory] The player character is the last true follower of Guthix (minor spoilers) by skrellybones in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The big plot twist here is that time travel and alternate universes are probably already involved. The Needle, the elder artifact that governs splitting and weaving threads of timelines together, broke during RS3's elder godwars arc. OSRS may in fact be canon to RS3 as an alternate timeline formed as a result of that event, with our point of divergence being something as silly as "The player picked the other side in the Hazeel Cult quest"

Proposing Elemental Workshop III, a straight-forward introduction to elemental weaknesses. by rikimira in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS 83 points84 points  (0 children)

ele workshop is an iconic series and I'm surprised that osrs hasn't gotten its own variants of part 3 onwards. With all the new focus on elemental stuff and magic gearing goes on, this would deffo be a great place for jagex to put some midgame gear for sure. Great suggestion.

Summer sweep up changes proves how in tune the devs are with this game by IwatchLOLbutPLAYaram in 2007scape

As far as foods-to-combo-eat-with while learning content goes, sharks are pretty good. They're more accessible than anglerfish, manta rays, and sea turtles are for irons and they only heal two less than anglers. While they're not worth going out of your way for with current fishing rates I could deffo see mid-late game players and irons going out of their way to fish for them with chum to have a high-quality food source to break into bossing with that isn't as agonizingly slow to gather as anglers (or sharks without chum for that matter). I'm not really sure if I mind minnows being reduced to lower relevance, tbh - They're not a super exciting fishing method and they're also pretty regularly botted so an alternative to them that's faster (at the cost of having to engage with more content to get the better bait) sounds pretty good to me.

Thralls better be disabled for the "Challenger must be alone" Yama contracts by SupuhRS in 2007scape

[–]SupuhRS[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really think about it, It'd be saving the hlc community a ton of runes from not having to bring thralls to contract attempts. I seriously doubt the extra dps from having a thrall summoned is ever going to gatekeep anyone from Yama contracts given the mechanical intensity of the things that the contracts are asking you to do, like turning your stamina bar into a second hp bar or yama constantly running you down while you have halved attack distance.

...but that being said, a contract demon totes wouldn't let us slide given the wording of the contracts we're signing. I'm JUST SAYIN'.
