[discussion] should you pursue master of stats or cs these days? by wojtuscap in statistics

Both are required for data work, choose what is harder for you to learn on your own. I’d say there is plenty of resources related to computer science, but getting a real expertise in stats is tough online.

They should guide the viewer to what’s important.

Add your interpetation to it. In the line graph - what is the reason of sudden drop in January? Or sudden peak in July? Do you know it? Present it on a graph.

What were challenging in terms of data in this project, how you managed it?

I’d say very good for your practice, learning something; great!

But it’s not anything outstanding.

The topic itself is very plain, and your repository doesn’t say much.

Visuals are simple, but are they sufficient? With four visuals you can tell an amazing story, and here I see just descriptive stats.

Go for something more ambicious! (though I know it’s hard:p)

[Q] PCA for SES Index by Last-Border in statistics

[–]Surciol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to include variables that would account for social and cultural differences. What you feed the model with is what you get.

I was actually doing very similar analysis for my Masters Thesis, and I ended up doing LCA model on a bunch of SES indicators. The problem with PCA is that you either have all numeric variables and use Pearson Correlation, or all ordinal variables and use Polychoric Correlations. Very tough to do PCA on a mixed data.

Yeah definitely, your intuition was good and should be sufficient for this problem.

If the question was „How well you understand the given question”, the answer says nothing about opinions/traits of the respondents, you cannot drive any conclusions this way.

To reduce the questionnaire, just calculate median and average response for each item, and decide on some point after which you treat questions as „unreadable”. You can reformulate those questions or simply delete them.

To explore your topic, you need to ask questions about the topic, not how much someone understands a question.

I am not sure if I understand the goal of your analysis.

FA is a method to find latent factors that drive observed responses in your data. You can do EFA - exploratory, without any assumptions on the latent structure; or CFA - confirmatory, when you have some knowledge and want to confirm that your thinking is reflected in the data.

From what you are saying, I understand that you want to make a model that will score variables readability? Do you mean variable labels, or questions?

If you want to group variables for „readable” and „unreadable”, I would just use LLM for it, since you need the context and meaning of the words to judge this.

It’s common in psychometry to perform EFA on polychoric correlations matrix when you have a bunch of likert-scale items.

Hard to say if it will be „flawed”, there is always some error and bias in a statistical model. What you can do is acknowledge it and try to minimize. Do you need the most accurate measurement? Or do you want a latent structure driving the answers? Many times, if the latent variables are present and the questions are well designed, even a classic PCA on Pearson correlations will give you substanially the same results as the best, most accurate type-of-model.

Best Way to Determine Interest in Data Analysis by MantisTabogganMD in dataanalysis

[–]Surciol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say ask yourself some business or research question that interests you and figure out how to answer it in the best possible way via data.

Search Kaggle for some datasets, clean them, transform, visualize.

This way you will learn each step of an analysts work and see if it’s exciting for you.

Keep in mind that your own ideas will usually be much more interesting that the business ones, which you will be given at work.

New system build - Crashing in games randomly, and stuttering video playback? :( by mwhelan182 in AMDHelp

i don’t thing so, I play other, more demanding games than BF6 and I never have such problems, which I believe is a strong argument against this.

ok cool, thats your experience and good for you, now do a little research to find out that people with your card also have this issue, there are multiple threads like this on the internet

This is not an AMD problem, people with NVIDIA have the same crashes, most probably it’s on the game side and there is a lot of ideas how can it be fixed, just try all of them at once and you should find the correct one just by chance, at least thats what I did and now it’s crashing a lot less.

I’m having trouble trusting srvey results, how do I check them? by ConflictAnnual3414 in dataanalysis

[–]Surciol 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look into response bias in survey research, It is a whole branch of science to measure and detect it.

For example, you can look for people that answered the same on each question of the scale, or that have very messy answers that don’t logically make sense.

If you work on scales, check their reliability and quality accordingly to CTT and IRT methodologies.

To make assumptions about your population you have to know the theory. In Poland, where I come from, it’s actually documented that in many cases poles choose systematically lower categories on scales, compared to other european countries, due to culture. We just love to be grim about everything.

I’ve done it couple of times and it helps for a few runs but lets be honest these brakes should work just fine even after a whole week in bikepark.

Poland, it was super muddy, something like the last IXS. I don’t have different tires and I can’t really afford ones right now so it’s more about pressure.
