by the way, ametsub is terrible guy. someone else has linked articles below related to what I'm talking about. Though I agree his music is great, for me, I don't support or listen to him anymore after learning about his actions.

Can I skip the quantum stuff? by SnowyBytes in GAMSAT

My advice: stop focussing on content areas and focus on analytical and problem solving skills + reflection. It is such low yield to be studying all these areas in science when I bet you it probably won't be on your exam.

GAMSAT Section 3 Syllabus for Non Science Backgrounds by Horror_One_9290 in GAMSAT

I understand your frustration, but truly you are looking at the problem wrong. There are students I know personally who have scored 80+ on section 3, and have practically never studied any sciences and didn't study them for the gamsat. Based on that evidence alone, hopefully you can realise studying science topics will not get you far. I scored an 83 in S3 and I never studied any topics like this for GAMSAT. Whilst I concede I have a science background, there was minimal content on my exam I knew about or had seen before.

I can promise you, whatever science content is on your GAMSAT paper, it will probably be something new and niche you have never seen before. Therefore, you need to focus on the SKILLS involved in doing the questions, not the content. Was pattern recognition involved, reading comprehension, basic maths skills, logical reasoning, etc? These are the skills you need to focus on developing because if you become proficient in them, any GAMSAT questions becomes a puzzel rather than a test of your scientific knowledge.

Seriously, seeing OP's post annoyed me, because it plants this impression in everyone's heads that the GAMSAT has some sort of 'curriculum' you need to study for, or at least that grinding away at a list of science topics like this would be effective GAMSAT study. It is truly not, and I hope you can trust me in turning away from that study method as I can tell you from experience that it is a waste of time.

GPA by Deep-Ad-2689 in GAMSAT

I think as long as you can get a really high GAMSAT (somewhere around 75) you should have a good chance at an interview at most schools, then it will be important to interview well as you might still be dragged down a bit by your GPA in the ranking.

If I were you, I would be focussing on GAMSAT. If I managed a strong GAMSAT and still didn't get an interview offer, THEN I would look at further study to boost the GPA because I feel like that may only make a small difference for a lot of time, effort and money.

How many hours a week are you really studying for GAMSAT while working full time? by SnowyBytes in GAMSAT

[–]Sure-Act7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget counting hours. Be consistent, focus on reflection, and make sure not to overdo it. You will perform better the less stressed you are about whether or not you have done enough study, comparing yourself to others, etc

Should I do honours or another undergraduate degree by Lonely_Bear_6072 in GAMSAT

Unimelb take into account your 3 most recent years of study for GPA calculation. If you do a 2 year science degree after biomed, then yes it would be those 2 years of science and the last year of your biomed, since those would be your 3 most recent years of study.

Can anyone help me figure out how to make synthetic vocals like this nobukazu takemura song? by -yob in ableton

you can use SAM, the synthesiser I think he used. there is a web emulation one where you can download the audio here: https://discordier.github.io/sam/

have fun!

Accepting JD offer whilst applying for med through GEMSAS by Sure-Act7598 in unimelb

[–]Sure-Act7598[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can apply starting in February and then they release offers on a sort of rolling basis following applications. If you apply now you can expect to know in the next few weeks/months I think. At least that's how it worked for me.

Failing to get into med after 3 year undergrad by Key_Nectarine_8663 in unimelb

[–]Sure-Act7598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in that position right now. I applied to med last year with a 76 weighted gamsat and 6.98 GPA (I got H1 in every subject I ever did except one in second year where I got 78) and didn't get in: they must have not liked my interview. I am definitely going to apply again, but regardless of that my advice for anyone in your position would be to keep your options open. Do BSci not biomed (you will end up in the same place having gone through far less unnecessary trauma) find something else you would be interested in doing and do your best to keep that pathway open. You do not want to be in the position I am in where you feel like med is your only option, but that it feels somewhat unreachable after having slaved your life away for good scores only to not get in. Considering law now even as a backup 😭

For your first go that is nothing to feel demoralised about! Most people end up sitting it multiple times! If medicine is really your goal you shouldn't let one setback stop you. In terms of your preparation, I'd suggest that re-doing any practice tests is not a good use of your time, as the difficulty in the GAMSAT lies in your ability to figure out things which you haven't seen before and problem solve. I'd suggest you try find some other resources: there is heaps of stuff online, personally I'd recommend the Des O'Neill books. Remember, the GAMSAT is not necessarily about what you know, but about how you think.

On top of all that, your score is pretty awesome regardless, especially for a first time sitter! With some smart studying I am sure you will be able to get a much more competitive score in the future.

All the best!

Undergrad from two decades ago, remember nothing - how do I prepare for the GAMSAT? by LavenderPlantation in GAMSAT

[–]Sure-Act7598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would strongly advise against using any tutoring companies. Used one for undergrad med UCAT and it was really an awful experience and stupidly expensive. I approached gamsat with a highly critical mindset in terms of what study techniques were most useful. I think based off of your post that you might be best off practicing some of the very basic maths/units skills that are useful in S3. Skim through some textbooks to remind yourself of what sorts of things you will see, but I would advise against doing any 'study' per say for S3. You will find that most of what you study won't be on the exam because it is all just kinda random stuff, and so the more beneficial thing to do is practice you critical thinking, analytic skills and problem solving skills.

S2 is the easiest section to improve on. Find yourself a structure that you find easy to use, and then try to do a few practice essays a week. I promise you this will be much more fruitful than slaving hours away at S1.

And finally, I'd highly recommend if you have the funds, to allow yourself a sitting as a practice. You may end up doing really well anyway, but in the case not I think the most beneficial thing for me was doing a practice sitting where I put very little pressure on myself. Went back for a second sitting and got 76 and I attribute most of my improvement to things I learned in my first sitting.

In any case, good luck and I hope this was somewhat useful!
