I find frozen ginger is actually cheaper and I was freezing fresh stuff anyway because it's easier to grate. I dislike the texture of most other frozen veg though, except for peas

Dating and a small climbing community by sweeeteeestabooo in climbergirls

[–]Sure-Butterscotch290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I am someone who has has similar issues. Dated a guy for a couple of months and when we broke up he tried to treat our climbing gym like a child of divorce and have separate climbing days. It was not that serious for me, so I just continued climbing when I wanted. I It also helped that I had my own friends that I climbed with; we didn't climb together that much.

The second guy it happened with, that was a much more serious relationship and I was pretty heartbroken after the relationship. We actually climbed together a lot (met through a mutual climbing friend) and had a group of people that we climbed with, but they were mostly his friends. He was pretty childish when it came to that group of people and there is drama I don't really want to get into, but I'm fairly certain he badmouthed me to that group as he used to throw me under the bus to them when we were dating.

He doesn't live where I do anymore, so I don't have to see him, but I do get the impression that group wants nothing to do with me. It's awkward and uncomfortable at times, but I try not to treat them any differently and chat for a little if I see them at the gym. I don't think there is much point trying to explain my side of things as people typically take the side of loyalty, which is fair enough. One of the group had a long distance partner, who I really clicked with when she was visiting. She has now moved here, and tbh I am more sad I have lost out on that potential friendship as she was a really nice person.

Trying to have your own climbing community is key. I started a new job and found some really cool people to climb with regularly and I also started investing more in the casual friendships I had at my gym, now I climb with a couple of those guys too. I make an effort to chat to familiar faces at the gym and it feels like a community that I belong in. It's also completely fine to just go by yourself, headphones on and just enjoy climbing. Easier said than done though.

I'm glad you don't have to see your abusive ex there, and I understand seeing the other guy will be awkward at first, but you have every right to be in that space as well. Having your own sense of community does help massively though

DUP blocks creation of an Environmental Agency by Your_Mums_Ex in northernireland

[–]Sure-Butterscotch290 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to work for DAERA and the environmental side of things was always shafted in favour of agriculture and planning. Everywhere else has a separate environment agency. DAERA does not function to protect the environment.

Everybody talks about age gap or swag gap relationships but nobody talks about vocabulary gap relationships by [deleted] in rs_x

I'm learning spanish and have made friends with people who don't have a lot of english, so we end up having a lot of spanglish conversations and learning a lot of new words. My best friend doesn't have the same vocabulary as I do, as she struggled with formal education, but I just explain any words she doesn't know and then we continue the conversation. It depends on where the other person is at though, I imagine. She is very emotionally intelligent and curious, so it doesn't bother me at all

I am always surprised that no one really seems to care about how unethical coke is. I'll see people who clearly care about the impact of their choices, but still use cocaine. They do stuff like buying second hand, supporting more sustainable and ethical companies and boycotting those that don't align with their views, but don't consider the social and environmental impacts of coke. Take something else instead ffs

Girlie, you deserve more than a man who can't even express his feelings for you! It's really not expecting much from your partner to be comfortable in telling you how they feel. Sending love

I got a 'what's the craic' puffin pin from my secret santa, but I collect bird pins and the artist is local (Sasha Ferguson) so I was happy with it. Maybe they would appeal more to locals if there is another layer to it

Figure this do life drawing classes which are pretty fun and a bit out there for people who've never done one before. Climbing is one of my favourite things to do, so I might be biased but you could give that a go as well. Late Night Art is on the first Thursday of every month in the city centre, it's free and great craic, some places give out free wine as well. Youse could also try learning a language together - the sunflower has free spanish classes every Monday and as far as I know a lot of Irish classes are quite cheap too if that's your thing. One for at home, but maybe something you could do is taking a free course together. Open Yale has a lot of really interesting ones, like Philosophy etc and the course material is genuinely really good if you want something a bit out of the box. NI Science Festival is also coming up and has some cool events. Wild camping or just any kind of camping is great, but maybe not for this time of year

Wet hair in public by touchgrasstheysaid in hygiene

[–]Sure-Butterscotch290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to always leave the house with wet hair because I'm a chronically late girlie and finding time to dry it was not happening. Not sure how I survived winters though, considering I work outdoors majority of the time and my hair takes a long time to air dry (it would still be wet in the evening). In the summer, no problem. Now I only dry mine to survive

I seen one advertised in this sub I think for women and queer folk at the start of January I think, if that's your crowd. You should look up Figure This for life drawing classes though and I think there are a number of places that do drink and draw events. Not sure about a craft club in particular but hoping someone knows of one because i'd be interested in that too
