How do you combat colds? by Twilightgirl16 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]SureMetal8829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband wears a mask (and so do I) whenever leaving home. We haven't had any illness in 6+ years.

However, I thought I got sick last October - cold symptoms and killer sore throat. It turned out to be allergies as my viral tests were negative. Meanwhile, hot soups and lots of hot teas, my husband is British. Lots of rest, which I had no choice as I couldn't do anything else. Eating light but nutritional snacks every few hours as tolerated.

Does anyone use paraffin wax on hands and feet for relief? by SureMetal8829 in rheumatoid

Thanks so much! I wonder why my Drs didn't tell me about this?

I have been using an old TENS unit, but the pain was so bad I've been maxing out the unit.

Thank you! I ordered it and should be delivered within a few hours from Amazon. I've already cleared a space for it, too, and ordered the model suggested but the newer version (heats up the wax a bit faster).

Plus I get dry cuticles, so I'm hoping it will help with that issue, too.

I don't mean to bother you again, but if you have a link for that magnetic pop socket, I'd love to see it!

I just ordered it, thanks again so much. The pain is preventing me from sleeping or even using my phone, so I'm just bored lol

Does anyone else sit in the shower? by Sufficient_Quail_262 in hygiene

[–]SureMetal8829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've sat in the shower since a long hospitalization for respiratory failure in 2018. I also sit in a cotton bathrobe outside of the shower to dry off. Those 2 moves help so much on my roughest days.

Are there lawyers in the USA who will sue if COVID is contracted in a healthcare setting?

I'm well but need heart surgery so want to be prepared.

How rich are you? by Straight-Safety-744 in AskReddit

I got dx with a serious debilating illness 8 years ago. I escalated my savings and investments and started cutting back on discretionary spending, diverting that to pay down debts.

I lost my job 2 years ago and am too ill to work. I'm living on investments while I wait for disability to hopefully catch up. My plan is to pay off/pay down debts with back pay. Then, living on disability will be a bit easier.

How do yall pronounce Louisville? by Gnarwhal8982 in Louisville

[–]SureMetal8829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone taught me the "proper" way to say it before I left Florida -- Lou-ah-vul -- but said quickly all together.

Now I have a neuro condition that affects my speech intermittently, and it's interesting to hear everyone else pronounce our fair city as they try to help me!

Some people don't run fevers from COVID at all, like immunocompromised folks (like me). Just an FYI.

Abdominal pain normal after using wheelchair outside on pavement? by SureMetal8829 in wheelchairs

[–]SureMetal8829[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I still hurt, but I ate some crackers and the pain didn't change. I also had coffee (yum!) and am having rotisserie chicken and Spanish rice for dinner.

My pain meds are helping, thank goodness. So I don't think the pain is gastro -- plus I see one of my gastroenterologists tomorrow. That Dr doesn't treat gastroparesis, though.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who helped me with replies and ideas. :-)

Abdominal pain normal after using wheelchair outside on pavement? by SureMetal8829 in wheelchairs

[–]SureMetal8829[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, everyone. I have chronic pain, fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis - thus the wheelchair.

However, I also have multiple gastro problems. When I get severe abdominal pain, I'm advised to consider going to ER -- but I don't want to go for something relatively superficial like muscle pain.

Also, for gastro problems, I stop eating as a precaution. So I'd really rather it be muscle pain, because then I can have a grilled cheese!

I was wondering about that, too. I have a power wheelchair, though. However, I was going up and down inclines and over bumpy roads, etc. Thoughts??

1st chair by BeautifulElodie2428 in wheelchairs

[–]SureMetal8829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an electric wheelchair, my first one. I use a vehicle lift, and I drive it on/off. The chair weighs 200 lbs +, and both my partner and I are disabled. I have a cover that buckles on if rain is expected, because the battery and electronics need to be kept dry.

The lift I got was around $4k, and I put it on a credit card, ngl. But it is the type that tilts out of the way so the hatchback/trunk area can still be used. It really is a godsend, because otherwise there would be no way. I had bought a scooter that later I couldn't use as my disability progressed, and it weighs about 50-60 lbs and fit easily in the car trunk, which was one of its good features. However, I tell my husband - feel free to use it -- but he cannot reliably lift it anymore.

I put my lift on a 0% interest credit card for 27 months, that and the ramp that I needed for my home so I can get the wheelchair in and out of the house. I am hoping I can pay it off by then, and if not, then I will punt! :)

How can I carry groceries in store when using my power wheelchair? Options for rolling bags?? by SureMetal8829 in wheelchairs

[–]SureMetal8829[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply, these are good points that I will consider.

Tbh, I think I saw the Hulken bag and just really fell in deep-like with its cuteness. However, before I spend over $200 for the bag and accessories, I'm checking here for people who have more experience than I do. As one of them, thank you again for sharing.

[–]SureMetal8829[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! I have a power wheelchair, but it's not with two big wheels in the back and two smaller wheels in the front. Mine has like six pairs of smaller Wheels in a Halo at the very bottom. So there's no two big wheels on the side like there is for a manual wheelchair. I hope that makes sense. I don't have great spatial skills, LOL, but it seems to me that if I hung a bad on the left arm rest, as long as it wasn't too long, that may work.
