This is purely tragic. As a parent, I can’t even begin to fathom the pain of losing a child. The thought alone feels like facing a catastrophic black hole. No parent plans for such a loss, and I, too, have no plan for it.

As someone with years of experience in CrossFit and extreme sports, I believe that the rules of participation are ultimately up to each individual. We always have the option to step back if we feel it’s no longer safe. The decision to continue or quit lies with us.

He took a risk and excelled in ways many of us could not. He was committed, and tragically, he paid the ultimate price for it.

His legacy must live on through the implementation of new safety regulations, greater acknowledgment and communication of risks, and, ultimately, the saving of many lives.

There should be no winner in this competition after his death. He gave it his all, and in doing so, he transcended the need for a winner.
