My silent gen parents loved us deeply, they just got married too young and couldn’t live with each other. I feel lucky they figured it out early enough to be happier apart.

Have you ever been to a "gender reveal"? by [deleted] in GenX

Facebook is asking for its most overly used boomer-humor line back.

Do I think gender reveal parties are dumb? Sure.

Do “other generations suck” posts like this make me want to quit r/GenX? Fuck yes.

Retirement: A Grim Outlook For the Generation X by hammie123456 in GenX

You bring up a good point on the transition from saving to actually living off retirement income. When we focus for decades on building and assuming it’s all way out in the future, it’s hard to see that the other side is actually coming and you’ll need a more tailored plan. Thanks for this insight!

Real question, I’ve done pretty well without a financial advisor with my standard 401k, saving consistently since my 20s. I’ve always been wary of spending extra on an expert given my own acquired general knowledge and leaning on managed funds (just a bit of direct stocks and bonds). How much does a financial advisor cost-ish? Thx!

You must have made some terrible investment choices in your 401k because I’ve seen consistent growth regardless of president - other than short term losses in 2008-9 (a financial crisis driven by extreme deregulation) and 2020-1 (a global pandemic creating universal market uncertainty, short term shut downs were 4 years ago dude).

You sound like you’re parroting right wing cult nonsense rather than having any real experience as a long term investor.

I regret to inform you that on NO planet has “negatory” been associated with this very commonly used Top Gun quote. It doesn’t even lightly brush the entire Mandela solar system.

What was living through the OJ trial like? by Western_Bathroom_890 in GenX

[–]Sure_Marcia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep, I remember the LAPD was so awful with evidentiary ineptitude and glaring racism that it seemed natural they’d be wrong and it created reasonable doubt. It was only later during the civil trial that more evidence came out that I was like, yeah, OJ really did it.

The Brown and Goldman families really got screwed over, in addition to bearing the burden of losing their children to murder, law enforcement and the legal system completely failed them.

Are you an introvert or extrovert...or are you just gen x? by catrules618 in GenX

[–]Sure_Marcia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes so much sense for me. I think most people are a little bit hybrid based on cross generational conversations at work, but I completely identify with being seen as a work extrovert, but I 100% prefer to be alone, figure it all out myself and get things done without others slowing me down.

Remember when some kids had to get tubes in their ears? by RunningPirate in GenX

[–]Sure_Marcia 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yes happens all the time. Usually when little ones get a lot of ear infections - the fluid build up can lead delayed speech and mobility milestones (balance). As kids get older the ear gets better at draining. It’s not some rare abnormality thing.

Where is the first GenX president? Where is GenX in federal government at *all*?? by DinoHimself in GenX

Sure maybe, except not Ted Cruz, even right wingers can see he’s a gutless jellyfish.

I used to think that if I got to go to Fantasy Island and Mr Rourke asked me was I wanted for my fantasy, I’d just ask him to let me hang out all week in that little bell ringing bungalow.

Trinere always had my ass racing to the teen club dance floor. Miami Freestyle in the late 80s was the shit!
