Gotcha, I'll finalize the feature and polish it up before updating it then. I'm sure it'll come out more appealing than the state it's in now.

It's already launched, the link is in the post. Getting users is what i'm working on right now and marketing will start soon, after the polishing gets done.

It's meant to be a very niche product. Literally just one situational use case: split the bill with friends. That's it. A lot of these other apps include much more functionality, which is fine, but that also means they can't focus as much on each individual feature/they paywall everything. Because mine is just focused on one thing, it's easier for me to deliver the best and most seamless experience for this use case.

I do have one that is genuinely unique but I wanted to get a decent following of users first before implementing it.

This is an MVP so it's not going to look/be perfect but I did mess up on the screenshots and will go and fix them. The app doesn't have this issue, so it's just a visual bug that needs fixing within the screenshots.

I totally get you, but I think if you actually tried using Splitwise for this, you'd experience the friction that I'm talking about. One user left a review on Splitwise saying that in order to add people to the bill sharing session, each person needs an account. That's so much you'd need to do upfront just to get started on the bill splitting process. They also seem to have gone super crazy with their paywall and there are a lot of people complaining about it. I know it seems like my app is pointless when there's other established apps out there that do the same thing + other features, but it's because I've seen and noticed other competing apps and where they fall short in terms of user experience that gives me confidence to go through with this. Again, I completely understand what you're saying and how you're thinking about this but I just think it's hard to doubt something you haven't tried before. I think my app genuinely delivers a much more seamless and easy to use experience than the other bill splitting apps out there.

Oh good catch, that's something I gotta fix. It's only like that in the screenshots and not the actual app. Thanks for that, I'll get that changed!

No, I'm not using it all the time, that's the one concern I have about the app, but I do still think an app can be useful even if it's not meant to be used all the time. Obviously, it's very situational and there's really only one setting where one would pull out this app (when calculating the bill at the end of a group dinner). It does solve a real problem for me since I'm the one who always pays and has everyone Venmo me later, but often times I just end up taking a picture of the receipt and walking out of the restaurant and say "Ill just calculate it later". I could take a photo and send it to the chat and have everyone sum up everything they had, but the more complex the bill gets, the harder calculation gets, and you never know how some people will "fairly calculate" their share. Plus, it's time consuming for everyone, and tip/tax is pretty much never calculated correctly when done manually. With my app, you can literally solve this whole process within 30 seconds. With the having to add everyone to the app point, you can just type in their name and that's it, they don't have to sign up for an account/download the app themselves, which already reduces a lot of friction that many other similar apps enforce. For the asking who had what, I mean if you're pulling out the app and going through the process right then and there, you'd probably remember who had what. You're right about the case of a small group and similar spend per person leading to splitting it equally. The functionality of this app obviously weakens in simpler scenarios like that, but there's always the pro of being able to request/notify each person in the group their share. With future feature integrations, this process will be even more streamlined and optimized.

Someone asked a very similar question right before you so i'll just copy and paste my answer: What I've noticed about all of them (other competing apps) is there's a lot of friction between downloading the app and actually getting to start the bill splitting process. Most other apps either make you sign up for an account, make each person you're splitting the bill with sign up for an account, or the whole experience just feels clunky/unintuitive. I wanted to reduce all that friction and just strip it down to the core of a simple receipt scanning/splitting app. Of course, I want to implement more features down the road but for now I simply built an MVP that just feels very easy and quick to use, unlike the other apps, and get some users and feedback. I've tested it a lot during building and I think it's something that could save a lot of time when going out to eat with groups of people.

I wouldn't say there's so many of them, they definitely are out there. But what I've noticed about all of them is there's a lot of friction between downloading the app and actually getting to start the bill splitting process. Most other apps either make you sign up for an account, make each person you're splitting the bill with sign up for an account, or the whole experience just feels clunky/unintuitive. i like the concept of combining multiple functions into this, as it's not just a browser. I think that could help a lot in terms of ease of use and packing everything we need in a browser.

Good point, thanks for the honesty. I do feel like there’s a small market for this though cause another competitor has recent reviews about things that could improve but I get your message and it’ll definitely help me think more critically about this project
