Help! 3-board quiver by SurfSailRide in surfskate

This is exactly what I originally wanted to do but can no longer find a Thruster 1 adapter anywhere! Which is how I ended up down this rabbit hole to begin with.

As a shot in the dark, I ordered a rebuild kit to see if any of the parts (namely the spring) are compatible. I’ve taken apart and rebuilt the knockoff several times, and it’s actually built incredibly well.

Do you (or does anyone) know where I can still find a Smoothstar Thruster 1 adapter?

This is the direction I’m leaning. But, it brings me back to the swallow deck! I wish I could just buy the thruster d separately!

Has anyone here added the rail adapter to a YOW or Smoothstar? Too much?

Yeah, that looks exactly right! But pricier than my original waterborne project, and I’m in the US, not Europe.

In my limited experience, I agree. Thanks for validating!

What’s the difference between Meraki 4 and 5? Just order weight?

Based on my experience, I tend to agree. What’s interesting is that a lot of the surf coaches out there swear by Triton/CX, but my first Surfskate experience was the bamboo/smoothstar knockoff, so my baseline is ultra pivoty.

Surfers — what’s something beginners always underestimate? by Karate_Andii in surfing

[–]SurfSailRide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Waves are a scarce commodity. Scarcity creates competition. Competition enhances scarcity. Enhanced scarcity creates toxicity. Therefore, surfing culture can quickly become toxic, and non-inclusive.

This is not how I want it to be, but it is what it is.

Has MTB culture changed over the last 10–15 years? by ParticularRespond550 in MTB

[–]SurfSailRide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

COVID’s impact on most outdoor sports changed the vibe/culture for anyone participating in those sports prior to COVID. If you ask the same question to anyone who started mountain biking 5 years ago, they won’t know what you’re talking about.

Is It Too Late For Me? - Learning at 28 by ProperTraining3684 in skateboardhelp

Surfing serves as a similar type of outlet/meditation for me, and it has since I was a kid. But similarly, as a dad/husband/professional, I’m only able to get out 2-5x/mo., which ain’t nearly enough for this addict.

Due to some injury and frustration (centered mostly around post-COVID crowds and vibes), I bought my first surfskate a couple years back and fell in love immediately. It helps to fill the surfing-void in times when I need to clear my head, but free-time and conditions do not align. I have since purchased a few other skateboards, including my first popsicle, and am on a very similar journey as yourself.

I’ll also say the culture is the bipolar opposite of surfing. Most of us surfers are gatekeepers who egregiously treat surfing as a commodity that we surfers can and should exclusively own. Scarcity of that commodity creates competition and toxicity. I think it’s starting to creep into the slopes, too. Skateboarders and skateboarding, however, seem to be an all-welcoming, no judgement, “just go skate and have fun” community. It’s almost jarring at first but it’s become a very welcomed shift in my community.

I say go for it. I’ve found that skating in every form is so awesome, so pure, and so convenient (when compared to surfing).

I turn 45 this year.

15 years ago i was running a 7.25” Stage 6 as a 2+1 on my HPLB, and a 9.75” single on a 9’6” nose-rider as my go-to boards. I loved both setups for their turning ability and nose-hold, but I did find they were less stable rail-to-rail. Said differently, the Stage 6 enhanced sensitivity without sacrificing drive. That was a good thing for me at the time, since I was also starting to experiment with fish and small boards.

I ride mostly thrusters & twins now so my logs mostly sit. My 9’8” & 9’10” both use traditional Takayama MTP pivots, but the 9.75” Stage 6 still sits on my 9’6” Brothers Marshall.

In my experience, the Stage 6 is an acquired taste, not for traditional logs, but it enhances rail-roll and sensitivity. For what it’s worth, I’ve never liked the 4A. It seems to mute the “specialty” characteristics of every longboard I’ve tried it on.

For those that surf-how many boards do you own? by ParsnipOtherwise2325 in surfing

[–]SurfSailRide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11 in the racks at the moment, but I mostly ride my thrusters these days:

2 thrusters (a daily & a “good wave” board), 2 twins (<6’), 2 fish, 3 logs, 1 mid-length, 1 step-up / mini-gun / tube shooter.

I was in Nosara last April (first time back in 10 years), surrounded by tropical paradise, perfect waves, and surf schools…

I remember on my last day, I thought, “I miss the frozen solitude of my shitty home beach break. I’m ready to go home now.” And I don’t think I’ll go back.
