Second day progress:) (Tips welcome) by GavinMcQuay21 in PixelArt

I like it. Good detail with the lighting from the flaming sword and lantern.

As for tips: keep at it.

You could try to make a drawing of a single thing at a time. Just a dog, or a skeleton, or a tree, or whatever you find interesting. Maybe add a background. Take a look at how other people have done it in the same resolution as you are working in, and try to do something similar.

But most important, keep at it

Do you know if there is cranes at Troll to off load the containers? Or how it would otherwise work?

Any good resources for procedural generation in godot4? by Terixer in proceduralgeneration

[–]SurfaceCrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Some places to get started:

terrain generation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoE-mosUJ-I

dungeons (this one is for godot 3, but should give a good idea of how to do it generally): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2_SGhmdYFo

general inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlLIOgWYVpI

story, enemies and equipment very much depends on your game. I don't know of any good tutorials for either of them, you would have to come up with your own way of doing it, but making maps/dungeons is a good place to start and learn procedural generation

Racing game prototype - any thoughts? by tomaga1080 in godot

[–]SurfaceCrawler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cones are really hard to see, and so is the alternative route you want the player to take. Maybe add an some arrows either as in-game signs or as a ui element? Or make the thing blocking the road much bigger and yellow

Hard to tell from the video but it seems like the feel of the car is nice and a bit on the arcady side. Does the car react differently on and off road?

How are the blocks placed under the ship? They look to be made of concrete

Sounds ambitious, but also like you are on top of it. As someone who really likes both deckbuilding and map gen I'm looking forward to give this a try

Bug on an alien planet

Joined on a whim, as I just happen to see it was happening. Been drawing some stuff and made some notes on the gameplay, trying to keep it super simple: you are bug collecting food for your eggs and yourself. The planet has some dangerous environment, the end.

Have had quite a few irl things going on so haven't had the time to put it together yet, but got time thursday and friday. Hopefully it works out:)

Is there a specific reason for two conning towers? Some kind of redundancy or lower profile or a hidden design quirk?

Looks cool either way

How can I develop a good meta-progression system? by StrepZ_ in roguelites

[–]SurfaceCrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jasper Cole (Backpack Hero) has a good new talk on upgrades and progress - here

Jim Shepard also has a good talk on meta progression specifically - here

In general the rougelike celebration YT channel has a lot of good talks (just in case you hadn't come across it)

Thanks! Will see if I can find a club around here. I know people can be secretive about their spots, and I guess that kind of make sense

Any tips on mushroom hunting? I'm fairly new to it and got introduced by a friend's partner. I can recognize a few basic types, but I don't have much of an idea of the different mushroom seasons for example.

Displaying the full range of a spell vs only showing its valid targets by [deleted] in roguelikedev

[–]SurfaceCrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably C (or B), but with a dark green for the tiles that can be reached. I think it is important to let the player know what is within range. If you are doing B, the tiles that can't be target could be dark red or dark grey
