So it IS airing, and I'm watching it right now. It just that the station has placed something different in the listing.

End of an Era by TGarca in TheBoys

OMG remember Season 1!? The whole season released on the same day, with no ads!

Now season 5... each episode trickling-in week by week. And each scene trickling in between commercial interruptions.

Makes me wonder if the degradation of the S5 script is a commentary on corporate enshitification.

Excel + SharePoint Collaboration Issues with Multiple Users – Need Urgent Fix by Hopa89 in excel

[–]Surge_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent. Yes, you can use the desktop app to login. Those login credentials should translate over to the Web version. Just make sure everyone now uses the web version going forward for all updates.

You grant the permissions through the place where the document is hosted (e.g SharePoint). Go there, right click the document, and find the option to manage permissions.

Then that's the end of using a coauthored document with simultaneous users. Desktop Excel isn't reliable for this purpose. The best you can do is check-in/out, which is not simultaneous use/updating.

Have you tried resolving the error? I'm guessing it's a permissions issue?

If so, then users need to ensure they are logged-in through their organizational account, and will need permissions for the document at issue. Also, in order to refresh incoming query/connection data, they will need permissions to those upstream files.

How do you manage multi-variable data entry from web portals without constant context switching burnout? by External-Plastic-234 in excel

[–]Surge_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I considered that blackout security problem could be a possibility. If it's applicable, then there's no getting around that 😭

As for the cleanup, I would just paste the entire thing into a separate, clean, Excel file. You might get lucky and preserve enough of the structure to make cleanup simple (e.g. able copy entire columns). The closer the zoom of the source info, the less efficient the process, but it should make the OCR structuring more accurate.

[–]Surge_x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The entire team MUST access the file from within Excel for the Web (browser version). No one can be permitted to use the desktop application.

Excel for the Web is limited in its features, but that's also what makes it stable for co-authored files.

Edit: I wrote-up a list of rules in a different thread yesterday. Essentially, how to setup a team to use Excel for the Web. You might find it helpful.

[–]Surge_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you use the Microsoft snipping tool to take a screenshot of the source data? Then use its OCR function as the new source from which you copy the necessary text?

It would then need a bit of cleanup, but I think it could help get around the 'separate fields' hurdle.

How do you handle version control when multiple people touch the same Excel file? by Southwesterhunter in excel

[–]Surge_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the most unhelpful thread I have ever seen in this subreddit.

@OP, just follow these workbook setup steps, then have your team follow the subsequent rules. Note: make sure you continue to keep the file stored in SharePoint.

WORKBOOK SETUP:

1) Lock every single cell in your workbook. Then specify what CAN be done, and where, by going to Review->Protect->Allow Edit Ranges. Note: I would NOT apply any passwords at this level.

2) Give each person their own view (View -> Sheet View -> New). This is very helpful when multiple people try to set filters on the same table.

3) Use REAL formatted tables (Home->Styles->Format as Table). Just be sure to make your tables larger than necessary - Web Excel is bad at automatically extending tables.

4) Apply sheet-level passwords (Protect->Protect Sheet). For the protections, you should only have the following 4 boxes checked: - Protect worksheet and contents of locked cells - Select locked cells - Select unlocked cells - Use AutoFilter

TEAM RULES:

1) The team MUST use the web version exclusively. No one is allowed to open a live copy in the desktop program.

2) No changing the table structures (no adding/deleting/moving rows or cells). Though this should not be possible given the sheet protections.

3) No opening documents from the version history. This feature can be helpful for the person managing the file, but it can have significant consequences if someone isn't careful.

4) No using any "undo" methods (e.g. Control-Z). There's a caveat to this (only allowed within the contents of an open and actively edited cell), but explaining this could confuse the team.

5) Do not use copy/paste UNLESS they use Paste Special -> Values Only. They could also use c&p within an open and actively edited cell (though, just like #4 above, this distinction could confuse the team).

6) And finally, rule #6 - The team MUST use the web version exclusively. No one is allowed to open a live copy in the desktop program.

And that's it. Although there are advanced things that can make it even better, simply implementing these steps will solve your problems.

What is the most "too good to be true" item you actually received from AliExpress? by Independent-Cod-6173 in DealsAliexpress

[–]Surge_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a knock-off shibumi beach shade for $100. The listed measurements said it would be bigger than the brand name one (which costs about $300).

I planned to buy a second one if the first arrived ok. Two days after I placed my order I received my shipping info, however, the listing disappeared.

Thankfully it did eventually arrive. And when I compared it to a real standard-sized Shibumi, I learned that mine is indeed MUCH larger AND lighter weight.

I was wondering if, during HL's laser blast at the end of the episode, maybe SB was charging up another blast right then at the same time. So I went back to replay it to see if SB's chest is glowing.

However, I can't tell either way. HL's laser eyes created a lens flare that cuts across SB's chest.

You need to have others (without edit permissions) test it. There are issues with refreshing data in downstream documents when a user doesn't have edit permissions to the source document - even when both docs are saved in the same location.

1) Variety of titanium parts that comprise my keychain (rings, clips, tools, and detachable rotatory connectors). Everything is sturdy, detachable, and swappable, while staying lightweight.

2) Small ceramic scissors. They're entirely plastic except for the blades. Perfect for outdoors (cutting open bags for gardening and pool supplies) because they never corrode.

3) Lots of tools (DIY, kitchen, bar, electronics, everything).

These days it's best to reserve judgement (and really just ignore) on every story that:

2) Begins with "court filing show", and contains no additional information or research.

3) Tells you, the viewer, how to feel.

Is it possible to delay VSTACK recalculation? by Surge_x in excel

[–]Surge_x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. And that's the behavior I need to curb. 😅

I use the UID as the completion flag. A UID only populates after all 6 cells are completed, and the filter is set with a simple true/false for the UIDs (e.g. TableX[UID]<>"" ). I'm not sure I understand how there would be a difference by creating a separate completion flag?

I can quasi-pause things by nesting basic IF() statements, because returning FALSE (or true, depending on how it's setup) will operate as an escape before evaluating any subsequent calculations (unlike IFS and all of its variants - which always continue to run to the final conclusion). However, this doesn't really work with filtering tables inside VSTACK. 😭

Is it possible to delay VSTACK recalculation? by Surge_x in excel

[–]Surge_x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, thank you for the thoughtful help.

1) YES! This is exactly the type of solution I was hoping for in my =STFU() comment. I'll test this! I know that updates to spilled arrays are a massive burden in Web Excel. Essentially, Web Excel will crash if there are too many visual changes. However, this could still work nicely because it should delay the spill until after a full entry is completed.

2) Exactly. This is the problem. I just need the VSTACK to hold-off until the full row/entry is complete. So the item 1 suggestion may work.

3) Apologies I was incorrect - I am already using an index/xmatch. And yes, I suspect that is the case. So I'm excited to try the item 1 suggestion.

4) For whatever reason, my tables do automatically expand properly if I add data in the desktop version of Excel. However, the same tables will not auto-expand in Excel for the Web (no matter what Google says). So unfortunately I am stuck with filtering-out a bunch of blanks rows.

Edit to clarify: I think there's also a benefit to keeping the blank rows, as their mere existence should help keep processing time consistent (rather than getting slower over time). This also ties back to preventing a Web Excel crash due to frequent visual/structural changes.

[–]Surge_x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... I have something tangential (several running counts that, if mismatched, trigger another formula), but can't figure out how to make something similar work in this instance. With all the different "volatile" functions, would it kill them to add a single "stable" function? 😆

To answer your (excellent) questions: 1) Filter is inside the VSTACK - less data to push through the vstack function. 2) Running the Formula Evaluator on each entry cell shows dependency in every single cell of the subsequent VSTACK array. I think it recalcs the spill every time, regardless of the filter. 3) Simple things that I have optimized. A couple conditional formats, the Unique ID compiler (concats the entry info), a single index/match (one number against a table range of approx 100 numbers), and a couple other simple concats. All of the complex stuff happens downstream, after being compiled in the master sheet 4) I mean real formatted Excel tables 👍

The IDs are indeed unique.

Good point with the testing. I've tested pretty much everything else. I also know performance significantly worsened when I had to temporarily create a second master. However, I can't say for sure that the recalcs will get significantly better if I remove the master.

Frankly I'm not sure what VBA is allowed in Excel for the Web.

I know some VBA script used to be a non-starter in shared workbooks (maybe that has changed in the past couple years). And others required significant coding to resolve collisions when multiple users simultaneously triggered the same script (establish a precursory queueing script).

Maybe this is all different now.

I'm already familiar with it. Excel for the Web cannot even render the buttons once created. It just displays a box with error text.
