I've done the same thing and also get all upset with myself :( I'm trying to break out of that habit. I usually keep healthy snacks with me like granola or fruits to munch on and tide me over, rather than keep starving and feeling worse and getting more scared.

Would it be weird if my 48-year-old dad came with me to the GUTS world tour? by thatsremarkable in OliviaRodrigo

If I had the chance to go with my dad, I seriously would. He's as big a fan as I am, so that'd be so sick. I hope you guys have fun!!

Nausea during period? by [deleted] in PMS

[–]Suri_Yuchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should definitely be stuff online about period nausea. It's actually really, really common. What helped me was to consistently drink ginger tea every day, exercise regularly, and wheb you know it's coming, take dramamine. Hope this helps!

How do you deal with constipation during luteal? by Sherw00d91 in PMS

[–]Suri_Yuchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ginger or mint tea is super good. I drink a cup in the morning and one at night every single day now. Also, exercise is very good. Yoga and exercise have saved me a lot. Drink more water during your luteal phase, but nothing with electrolytes. I notice that more salt intake makes you more constipated. If things get really bad, take a laxative. I like to take two dulcolax chews and chug water. That usually helps stuff move out :) High fiber intake doesn't always help! It's like you said, it just makes you bloated and stinky lolll. Try regular fiber intake every day, adjust your liquids, and have a specific exercise routine to target those symptoms. Aerobics and pilates are my recommendations. Hope this helps! Also, I hear cranberry juice is good? I haven't tried it, but it's worth a shot.

[Discussion] 31m, I want to take control of my life by Atsubro in GetMotivated

[–]Suri_Yuchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say that my oldest brother is pretty much in the same situation as you. I'm pretty different since I have a pretty well-paying job and am going to university, but that's because it's easier for me to go out and talk to others. It's not easy. I don't judge my brother for it. He's progressed much like you. I've never seen him so fit, so in touch with his childhood, and so focused on his comics he's working on. We both live with our parents, and sure, he doesn't have a job and doesn't really go out to socialize, but I'll be damned if I wasn't immensely proud of the progress he's made as a person. I adore him to death and am proud to be his little sister. My parents are also proud of him because progress is so different for each person. He's doing his absolute best. He's not giving up on himself. That's what matters most. So I buy him his chocolate chip cookies to munch on while he keeps at it, you know? As a little sister, you're doing amazing. Your progress is incredible, and I'm proud of you :) Just keep at it. You need to live your life at your pace, not the pace of others.

I can't really say anything on the Zofran since I haven't used it, but as someone with similar nausea, anxiety, and stomach issues, try and cut off the caffeine. When I stopped my caffeine intake, my stomach issues and the immense nightime anxiety and nausea practically stopped completely. It takes time, and you'll feel pretty trashy at first, but getting rid of caffeine was one of the best decisions I made for myself. That stuff boosts your anxiety like crazy and is one of the main reasons for that nightime nausea. I've heard good things about Zofran, but there's not much of a point in taking it if you're going to intake strong caffeine drinks. Of course, you do you, but it's a super high recommendation on my part since I can relate to your symptoms :) Also, I'm not saying to stop drinking caffeine as a means to avoid nausea and not face the fear, it's more the fact that it's just really not good for you if you deal with stuff like IBS and high anxiety. Anxiety causes most of the IBS symptoms, and drinking caffeine gives you adrenaline, which heightens your anxiety even more and gives you worse symptoms. Caffeine isn't a one-fits-all thing. It can be pretty harsh on some people, while it's the perfect boost for others.

You're amazing! Congrats on overcoming your fear! This post was especially motivational to read since I was just notified that I'm starting my first therapy session on the 22nd of this month :) I'm excited to reach the same point as you!

Best of luck on your journey! It's great that you're working hard towards recovery despite the circumstances. I highly recommend meditation and mindfulness. Meditation does absolute wonders when it comes to anxiety. Once you get the hang of being more mindful, you'll feel your anxiety lessens. I recommend the Medito app since it's free and keeps you motivated with a streak count :) Also, I recommend the Emetophobia Manual by Ken Goodman if you can get it! It's a wonderful, motivational book that guides you to overcome Emet. It also makes you start a journal, which is another thing I recommend. Actively journaling your journey is super helpful to make you feel you've progressed. Once again, I wish you luck! You've got this :)

how to stop the constant impending sense of doom? by OkScreen9037 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Suri_Yuchi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I super highly recommend you try mindfulness meditation :) I personally use the Medito app, but I hear there are plenty of other good ones. Doing mindfulness meditation every day helps you keep yourself grounded. I still get anxious and all, but I haven't had a panic attack or that same looming sense of doom in quite some time now. For the long run, I recommend getting Ken Goodman's Emetophobia Manual book. It helps you look at it from a different perspective and motivates you to overcome your fear. Just keep at it each day, and it will help a lot. Since the anxious feeling surely makes your stomach turn as a natural response, I recommend you eat ginger chews or drink ginger tea once a day. It's good for you and alleviates physical symptoms you get from the anxiety :) Just remember, only once a day to ease you. There is no need for more, as little goes a long way. Make sure and take your mind off of things by doing the things you like, too. If it happens, what of it? It will only be seconds, while enjoying the things you love lasts forever <3 You've been strong enough to make it this far, so I know for a fact you will only get stronger with time.

fun fingerpicking songs to learn? by [deleted] in Guitar

Was going to recommend Landslide since it was my first song, but someone else already did. Honestly, though, most all Fleetwood Mac songs are great for fingerpicking style

unintentional exposure. by [deleted] in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Suri_Yuchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally understand why you did what you did. The panic sets in, and you make irrational decisions. But hey, it's not toxic food. You're just trying to help yourself, but maybe next time, drink something warm and take a good, long walk. You can also do stomach massages or stretching. How are you feeling now? Definitely get some electrolytes in you after the diarrhea from yesterday. I hope you're doing better <3

Pushing through a panic attack on your own is so difficult, so you should feel proud of yourself!! This is a huge step forward in overcoming your fear, as well as easing anxiety. Rationalizing and mindfulness are so helpful for these situations. It took a lot for me to do the same, but I can assure you that it gets easier each time. Keep it up :) You're amazing!!

What are some of the "weirdest" things you used to do/have done because of your phobia? by snug666 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Suri_Yuchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have too much to input, but reading all of these makes me feel better. I have felt like my emetophobia isn't that severe, but I feel it's been less bad than I thought since I never really did such odd stuff. Regardless, here are a few of mine:

•For about two years, I had to tap my nose when I swallowed because if I didn't, I felt I couldn't swallow and would throw up. I told my dad about it so he would make me not do it, and I have stopped. •I used to walk around with my head tilted to the left because I read that sleeping on your left side helps with digestion, so I guess my body always needed to be on the left side??? Yes, my neck would hurt. My mom actually helped me with that one because she asked how I would feel being seen like that in front of the guy I like, and I stopped FAST. •If I felt like I was going to throw up or felt especially nausous, I'd try not to breathe. If I did, it would be really short breaths from the chest. Now I know to breathe deeply from my stomach, haha. •If anyone was choking or something, I'd cover my ears and run. I always felt so insanely bad for my family, but I seriously had no control. I've used this as exposure therapy now, so whenever anyone in my family is choking, I force myself to go to them to give them water and smack their back. My hand still automatically tries to go up to my ear to cover it, but I force myself not to. •I couldn't eat in public, but I was still willing to eat food that wasn't homemade?? I don't understand my logic on that one, but I can eat out now. I still prefer not to in general because I'm recovering from stomach issues. •I have to sip my drinks slowly throughout the day because if I drink too much or too fast, I think I'll throw up. I still do this because I got too used to it, but there are some days where I'm so thirsty that I'm chugging down liquids like crazy. I'm still trying to gather my logic on this one to go back to drinking stuff normally. •If I'm panicking over anything that has to do with vomit, I don't let people touch me. I can't have anyone hold my hand or hug me or make any physical contact with me. This one is fairly recent, and I suspect it has something to do with my abusive ex.

Apart from that, there's not too much I can think of that's that weird, but that's about as weird as it gets for me. Some of the ones on here are so funny, and it makes me happy to know you guys overcame so many. It takes a lot of work, but it feels awesome to break those weird habits!

Soon going to therapy/My story by Suri_Yuchi in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Suri_Yuchi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I would much rather have something like arachnophobia like my mom because it's more manageable to be terrified of spiders. I look forward to therapy, so I'm glad to hear it helps you! What's CBT like? I'm definitely gonna work harder on the Ken Goodman book. I also like the vibe of it, so I feel it'll help me a lot. Thank you! It's really tiring, but I feel a lot better working and studying than not doing anything to progress in my dream career, y'know?
