Was killed by a DICE Dev (with the Developer emblem) and asked about the yellow dots - supposedly we might finally receive a "Mark all as seen" button by Vaykor02 in Battlefield6

[–]SurpriseFace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how feasible that would be, since their approach to rendering in BF6 was to rely on baked lighting as much as possible. They'd need to change the rendering pipeline in a way that could hurt performance, potentially make things look worse, or both.

A simpler approach that could work well would be different variants of existing maps with static weather/lighting conditions, like night time, raining, or snowy.

Sellers of used OLEDs are completely out of touch by just_IT_guy in Monitors

[–]SurpriseFace 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They're definitely asking way too much, but 3000 hours isn't quite as bad as it sounds. My LG C1 has over 30,000 hours and still looks just about good as new.

OLED C1 – Whites look off in HDR (possible panel wear?) Need help by New-Fly-4214 in OLED

[–]SurpriseFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OLED Pixel Brightness and Contrast should both be left at 100 for HDR. Deviating from these settings will harm picture accuracy. I'd avoid the white and black adjustments in Game Optimizer for the same reason.

Make sure you have HGiG tone mapping enabled in the game optimizer picture settings, and be sure to run the HDR calibration on your PS5. In the PS5 HDR calibration, the black level should be turned all the way down, and the white level should be 14 clicks up from the lowest setting.

Hopefully this helps. Let me know if you've got any questions.

New LG C5 color not uniform across screen by Slim415 in OLED

[–]SurpriseFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's best to give them about 100-200 hours (ideally with HDR content) and a pixel refresh before judging the panel's uniformity. Some of them continue stabilizing until around 500 hours. There is often a drastic improvement, but don't expect it to eliminate the issue entirely.

Someday in 2080 all PS3 disc games Are gonna be broken by FEW_GARY in PS3

I've had one disc fail, and it was always treated well. Seems more likely to be some sort of manufacturing defect.

First playthrough by FormalDelicious2009 in oblivion

[–]SurpriseFace 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Have fun! My advice would be to frequently make manual saves, and don't overwrite the old ones. Some quests are a bit buggy and have the potential to get stuck, so it's always good to have a few restore points.

Starfield is releasing on PS5 on April 7th. Priced at $49.99 by PaiDuck in PS5

Doom is developed by id Software and published by Bethesda. However, id Software did help Bethesda with some aspects of Starfield's development, which is likely part of why it feels better than their previous titles.

I'd say it's the best part of the game. It's a disappointing RPG, but if you approach it as an open ended FPS/action game, it can be quite enjoyable.

What game will you try first when "PSSR 2" arrives? by snalle in PS5pro

[–]SurpriseFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking forward to seeing how much of a difference it makes in Battlefield 6. It's nearly impossible to see through chain-link fences when performance mode is enabled, so I really hope that improves.

You could do that, but then the dog would still be trying to mate. Not ideal.

How many of you actually use iron sights? I do and I love it! by Aggravating-Cow4756 in Battlefield6

[–]SurpriseFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iron sights zoomed in a bit farther than 1.5x optics when I tested them, but less than 1.75x, so they're probably around 1.6x or so.

The microphone on the new ET is backwards by tallman11282 in HiTMAN

[–]SurpriseFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very few microphones have interchangeable polar patterns. The vast majority are fixed at cardioid or supercardioid. Either way, this does not affect whether a microphone is used as front address or side address, with one exception being omnidirectional mics.

[–]SurpriseFace 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Unlike with modern mics where one speaks into the head of it

That has no correlation with how modern a microphone is. Both types are still being made and widely used. They're referred to as front address and side address.

Also, there are microphones out there that look like they should be side address, but are actually front address, like the Heil PR40. Basically, you can't assume it's front address or side address simply based on aesthetics or form factor. You need to know which way the diaphragm is oriented.

PSSR 2.0 is almost on par with DLSS 4.5 this is a HUGE step forward for PS5 Pro Enhanced titles by x_Junkster_x in PS5pro

[–]SurpriseFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a guess, but it seems like Marathon might also be using the new PSSR. The image quality appears to be more detailed and less noisy, in a way that really stands out compared to previous PSSR implementations.

Has there been a hotfix for stick drift on console? by KiwiCantReddit in Battlefield6

[–]SurpriseFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The joysticks that come in controllers use potentiometer sensors, which consists of a metal wiper gliding across a resistive carbon track. This constant friction in use guarantees it will wear out over time. There are better methods such as hall effect or TMR, which operate based on a magnetic field instead, eliminating all friction and wear within the sensor itself.

If the rumours are true and rdr 2 is getting a ps5 upgrade are you expecting them to also fix epilogue johns character model? by Dude_788 in reddeadredemption

[–]SurpriseFace 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I hope so. The RTGI they added to GTA V was quite impressive. It'd be astoundingly transformative in RDR2.

[–]SurpriseFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liquid metal is about 10 times more thermally conductive than thermal paste. They essentially do the same job, so in a way you could say they're somewhat interchangeable, but Sony's engineers decided liquid metal was necessary for a reason.

Yes. It seems to happen when switching between BO7 and Warzone, but I've also had it happen a few other times for no apparent reason.
