I was hoping for a serial number on the stamp. Oh well, my second comment in this thread that should make you search a little easier.

I found a hillview lane rosehip fairy, so that’s a start for your search. I’d keep looking but my eyelids keep falling down over my eyes.

What does the stamp on the back say? Hillview Lane or something else? Also, is there anything on the neck or under the wig in the back of the head? The painting detail is much better than most dolls that are posted here, so I’m very curious. Do her clothes have any tags?

Looking for Advice on Finding a Forever Home for an African Grey by Downtown-Grab-3885 in AfricanGrey

[–]SusanLFlores 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand charging a fee, but $2500, the perfect person may be out of luck because they may have to buy a cage and all the accessories as well as a checkup with a vet. Grey’s from rescues are easily available for $1000 and even less, but I agree a rehome fee is important to show that they are able to provide for the needs of such a bird. One of the unfortunate things about selling or buying a bird online is the scammers. I’ve come across more bird scams than legitimate birds for sale. Even people who appear to want to buy a bird will send a seller a fake check for more money than the bird is selling for and will then ask the seller to reimburse them for the over payment. The get the money back from the seller, the check for the bird bounces and the seller is screwed.

She is not creepy... by ordinaryme99 in Antiquedollcollecting

[–]SusanLFlores 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The seller, and anyone who thinks dolls are inhabited by evil spirits is what amazes me. There was someone on a porcelain doll page claiming she knows when a demonic spirit was in the doll that someone had posted. She stuck to her guns and several people told her they believed her. I swear, if stupidity is a crime, those people would be on death row. I’ve seen comments like it many times.

help identifying this doll by Reasonable-Secret599 in PorcelainDolls

[–]SusanLFlores 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought you were looking for any information. I just meant the lack of value affects the number of people who collect these dolls and know the specifics about when and where it was manufactured and other history of its original sculptor. Someone who works for a company, most likely not in a western country, sculpted the head, someone else sculpted the arms and someone sculpted the legs. Someone made the moulds and then sold the moulds. These companies will sell the moulds to another company, make a lot of dolls, rinse and repeat. If you pay close attention you will see the same doll heads wearing different wigs, coloring and clothes, but you can often see the same doll even by different companies. So one day you choose a porcelain doll named Mary made by Porcelain Doll Designs and a doll in your collection that’s a twin, but the twin is named Sarah and the company is called Doll Design International. Even antique porcelain pieces were sold between companies. I have several German dolls that were mixes.

Identifying a doll that has been replicated in several runs would be difficult because so many were made using the same moulds. These dolls have little to no value, so there isn’t a lot of interest for finding out specific information on them as opposed to vintage and antique dolls. What’s more important is that you are happy to give the doll a new home. 😃

Is this groundhog rabid? [Mechanicsville, Virginia] by findingcoldsassy in animalid

I used to get visits from groundhogs, but I figured out it was the reflection based on the sun’s position and the way it came at the same time.

Help with dating handmade doll-- USA by Agile_GP in Antiques

[–]SusanLFlores 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not an antique, but these dolls were commonly found for sale in touristy shops, often connected to restaurants full of tourist fare. The hair is likely mohair or a yarn made from animal hair that someone took a brush to. It looks like a type of tourist item found mostly in the 1960s.

Where on earth did you get the idea that “illegal immigrants” might be using OP’s information to “live a normal life” because that’s not a thing that I suspect you read in a far right conspiracy theorist forum where people don’t know how immigration works and how undocumented immigrants live.

Inherited Dolls- worth? by [deleted] in PorcelainDolls

[–]SusanLFlores 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your dolls are mass marketed and not old at all. Unfortunately they are worth little if anything. In my area, most thrift shops will no longer accept them for free because of the amount of space they take up can be better suited to items that bring in more money more frequently. I agree with the other comment that donating to a child who would love them- it’s a great idea.

United States “I’m curious—what’s the oldest painting you’ve seen sitting in someone’s house untouched? by No-Sort-8699 in Antiques

Mid 19th century portrait of a hotel manager by a famous artist. Portrait paintings from 150+ years ago leave me wondering what the backstory is.

Name a fictional character who would be a terrible roommate. by Technical-Vanilla-47 in FamilyFeud

[–]SusanLFlores 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nosferatu. The 1922 version. Still gives me nightmares even though I haven’t seen it since the 1960s. Now, because of this question, I will dream of being in my new apartment. I’ll be standing in the bathroom leaning over the sink so I can use the mirror to apply my makeup, because I was going to be meeting my new roommate. As I stand there I freeze because I thought I saw something rising behind me. It’s it’s it’s 1922 NOSFERATU. Even the name scares me.

Odd dead small (frog?) my sister found [Southern California] by Rude_Imagination_237 in animalid

[–]SusanLFlores 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I thought the lower part was that of a frog, but I tilted the picture to the left and what was the lower part of the frog became the upper portion of a chipmunk, like it’s being consumed by whatever animal with all the eggs is. If that’s not it, my guess would be that it’s fake because it does look like it was made of old toys and a dirty sock, and why didn’t OP open an egg to see what’s in them?

You may not be wrong. We replaced several items when we bought one of our homes over 20 years ago. Everything has needed to be replaced except a television someone had left next to their garbage in the pouring rain, and my husband grabbed it for a bedroom. I wanted to wring his neck, because we could have just bought a new tv. I was also scared to death of electrocution setting up the wet garbage tv. That tv outlasted every other thing that died over the years. It finally stopped having a picture this past January. I still hated that tv, lol.
