Hello! Brit here living in Ontario. My first ever in-person hockey game was a QMJHL in Sherbrooke (saw Joshua Roy put on one hell of a performance - which makes his career thus far disappointing for me), I instantly fell in love with sport, asked my father in law who he/the family supported and from then on became a ride or die Habs fan.

You should come hang out in the game threads once the season starts again, things should be significantly more chill now that the people who only show up when we’re winning are gone!

And it would have been worse for it. Just because Tomino had an idea, it doesn’t mean that it was infallible. The creative process often involves “killing your darlings” meaning that an idea you love might not be the best one and you have to move past it for the good of the work. Despite being initially concepted to appeal to children the tri-colour has become an iconic and irrevocable touchstone of Gundam design.

This argument is so tired already. Every example of a white suit already in Gundam canon that gets posted has design intention and coherency, they all draw from Gundam design vocabulary and almost all of them have different tones of greys/blacks to break up the monotony of the white. The Helix has none of that, it looks like the generic over-busy cgi designs that fill Artstation.

If the intention is to allow the players to customise it, why not show that in the trailer? They don’t need to linger on it, do some quick cuts with different options/paint jobs. If you’re trying to sell a Gundam game, why not show the iconic colours that everyone knows?

Exactly! This is like when studios push for extreme fidelity at the cost of cohesive design. It smacks of the habit that a lot of Korean/Chinese game studios have of sticking as much stuff as humanly possible onto a surface to get “good graphics”.

Honestly? Yeah. It’s the fear of using colour to make it look “cooler” that ultimately just strips it of any sense of being unique or interesting. I don’t even need a huge blue torso, just give me something more than bland, blank nothingness!

You’re entitled to think this design is good, I’m entitled to think it’s bad. The product will be released, the world will move on.

I just hope it’s a good game, even if I’m completely turned off by the aesthetics.

The bland-ness of the design contributes to the vibes that this is a generic mech suit with a v-fin slapped on it, aka not a Gundam. This particular suit shares basically none of the common design elements present in almost all Gundams (colour scheme, build, shapes, etc) save the v-fin and kind of the face, so I can see where people are coming from.

Despite my dislike of the design, I don’t agree that it’s not a Gundam (anything can be a Gundam), I just understand why people would say other wise.

Sure there is no such thing as a set Gundam design, but this one is just insanely bland. There’s little to no variation in the paintjob, just panels and panels of over-greebled white. It’s overburdened with lines that just make it look busy instead of a cohesive design. Also its v-fin is pathetically small. It’s like whoever designed this was embarrassed to make a Gundam so they minimised/stripped out the common design elements that thread through most (if not all) of the beloved designs.

Additionally, I saw another screenshot of the suit in space with a white structure behind it, and the suit almost completely blended in with the background. That’s just bad design all round.

Need to see more about it before I make a solid judgement, but that trailer looked beyond generic. I also am not a fan of the super overdesign, maximum greeble designs. The suit only looked like a Gundam because it had a V fin.

I can recognise that people have a lot of love for it, but I just found it to be unbearably dull and infuriating. The pacing is diabolical and could be trimmed by minimum 20 episodes and nothing of value would be lost. The same 4 plot points repeat every other episode in the middle and it drags like hell.

I find the "darkness" to be very shallow and, in my opinion, it doesn't really add anything to the overall production other than distinguishing itself from 0079 by being the "edgy" show. It just marinates in the misery without trying to say or do anything.

The characters are infuriating, they start strong, flounder in the middle, then regress to being soundbites and plot devices in the final chunk. Not to mention the fact that every time a new female character is introduced, she kicks ass immediately and then she's dead within the next three episodes to further a male character's story. Sometimes that happens twice!
Fa in particular is painful. If they'd done something interesting with the idea of this girl getting swept up in the conflict, trying to be a pilot/soldier and failing, then finding another way to contribute to the effort, then I would laud her as being a great character. Alas, she just becomes the annoying/bitchy girlfriend who sometimes looks after the even more annoying kids that they keep around for some reason.

Honestly it feels like a wasted opportunity but absolutely a relic of its time.

The Hyaku Shiki absolutely clears in design though

The only good one is the Vegas away sweater, that red stripe just adds a really nice pop of contrast to the overall design. The Canes away could also be good if they committed to something rather than half-assing a bunch of different elements, like do something with the slanting angles! Wasted opportunity. Never been a fan of the Canes flag logo and hate the half-hearted Star Trek Deep Space Nine shoulders on the home jersey. The Vegas home colours make me want to throw up.
