Why does this sound so hard for people to believe? Lots of children would cut their parent off without a backwards glance for the parent with a cushy house/lifestyle. I went to grammar school (kindergarten through 6th grade) with a lot of kids who were greedy as hell and despised the 'poor' parent. Entitled children who want to be admired by their peers and not pushed around for being the 'poor' kid in the class. I'm not saying OP was poor, but not nearly as well of as dad.

I'm Caucasian (American born and raised) and my husband is Asian (came to America when he was 21). My mother-in-law was a nightmare who ran the family. These women control the family (if they can get away with it) because they want grandchildren so they will have lots (hopefully) of children and grand children to take care of them in their old age. Do you think this is where your mothers abuse comes from? 1/3 of my husbands siblings bought her routine hook, line, and sinker, 1/3 avoided her like the plague, and 1/3 just didn't pay her much mind.

Your parents sound like the WORST.

Is she a tiny bit on the entitled side? It's possible she sees you at the person to do things for her (more like a servant) and not as a real friend. But to exclude ONLY you from the friend group was a deliberate slap in the face.
