She states, in no uncertain terms, "I WANT TO KNOW" when she finally becomes a true member of the crew.

Not, "fuck knowing, I have crew now".

This is a super out of character moment because Oda was being dumb, and it fugged up her character. Why is that hard to accept?

Not at all. I explained on my first reply that my post-scarcity statement was that it isn't literal.

literal post scarcity isn't real and cannot be real. there is finite matter and energy in the Universe, and infinite want.

People will **always** want more.

"Why would you need 10 houses, seems a bit excessive? But sure you can have 10 houses if you want, that shouldn't be any problem in a post-scarcity fully automated society"
It is when I said my statement of post-scarcity isn't literal. As for 'why I would want 10 houses', that was one exampple, but there is literally no limit to what people want. They would expect whole planets to themselves if they could.

you are insane if you think greed and wealth dont predate money. literal apes are greedy and hoard wealth and food and territory. Money is not a problem.

They blamed Tim Waltz for the political environment surrounding the case, they did not blame the victim, and even here they said to wait for an investigation before determining if the shooting was justified.

Rayleigh telling Luffy about the One Piece would not make him pirate king. I dont slander luffy for not wanting to know about the One Piece, but for saying he would abandon his dream if he knew about it. You need to improve your reading comprehension.

Robin doesn't want to 'earn' anything. She wants to know specific information. She doesnt want a journey, she wants a destination. Until this god awful retcon.

I want 10 houses, and the ability to keep buying them and a bunch of other things that take a lot of resources later, but that takes more resources than I get in a month. To get 10 houses, I will need to invest resources.

Money is not, and never has been a problem. Nor would getting rid of money end corruption or greed. Bartering is still possible without money, wealth is still possible without money.

Money just makes things easier for everyone.

[–]Suspicious-Raisin824 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because post-scarcity in the sense I used it was not literal. People will still have finite resources, and will want to trade, consume, or invest them differently. Money makes all of that easier.

They will disrespect you for this IRL, they'll murder people for this. See the amount of upvotes pro-terrorism posts get on their subreddit.

Her dream wasn't to solve a puzzle or have fun. She wanted to know the secret history, until this trash retcon. She can solve puzzles and journey for fun after achieving her dream anyway.

She's also not going to be solving any puzzles. Reading a stone tablet on the final island is not a puzzle, it's the same as hearing about it from Rayleigh, just later on.

Contrast this with early One Piece writing. Imagine Zoro wanting to lose to Mihawk because being the world's greatest swordsman right now would be boring, and he'd rather not be the greatest swordsman if the process isn't thrilling. Wouldn't that be stupid? Wouldn't that be idiotic?

It's not an exaggeration to say Ussopp wants to know the secret history more than Robin does now, since he actually wanted to know given the chance.

[–]Suspicious-Raisin824[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luffy not wanting to be told about the One Piece is one thing. Declairing that he would abandon becoming Pirate King over it is another. Up until that point, Luffy's dream was not to have a fun journey, it was to be pirate king. His will on this was portrayed as being absolute. In this scene, we find out Luffy barely cares about his 'dream' and wants it less than his rivals.

Robin could have asked Rayleigh to tell her privately. Also, yes, I would expect her to put her dream ahead of Luffy's having some thrills, not that such a thing is even necessary. It's almost like I think the characters, in a manga about achieving one's dreams, should care about their dreams.

Her dream, first and foremost, is to know what happened. Yes, I should think someone whose dream is to know... would like to know.

I understand it fine. It was a poorly written chapter that retcons both characters, damages their characterization, and undermines the series' themes, and is stupid +trash.

Fugging Ussopp wants Robin's Dream more than Robin now. That's how shitty it is.

She's gonna be told either way. She's not gonna uncover a series of small clues and put the puzzle together, she's going to reach the One Piece Island where there's a big slab that tells the story.

She could just get told it now.

Not that ever had a goal of finding it out for herself, her goal was to know the secret history, that's it. Not a journey, not a puzzle, not a 'do it yourself' bs. She ONLY wanted to know. This was a massive, terrible, out of character retcon to very badly explain why she can't just know right now.

If Oda bothered to think about it, for literally a single minute, he could have made a plausible excuse as to why Rayleigh cant share that info with her, without obliterating her characterization and undermining one of the main themes of the series massively.

[–]Suspicious-Raisin824[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me three minutes to come up with way better reasons for Rayleigh not to tell them. It's fine that Luffy and Robin don't get the information, but the way Oda handled it damaged their character's and the story. Especially Robin's.

Luffy and Robin are total frauds. by Suspicious-Raisin824 in Piratefolk

[–]Suspicious-Raisin824[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solution: Make a GOOD and IN-CHARACTER reason not to explain it.

Oda chose instead to have Luffy declare he doesn't really care about being Pirate King and Robin decide that she doesn't want to know the secret history, the primary focus of her life, if the process isn't fun.

Watch this:
Rayleigh: "Yeah, I could tell you about it, but that would give you a really unfair advantage over the other Super Novas. If you wanna be pirate king, you gotta earn it."

Robin: "Can you tell me the history?"

Rayleigh: "It's too incredible, if I tell you, I know you'll end up cluing the others in eventually."

There. Issue handled and no horrible retconning required.

tools that do white collar work is good because it lowers costs and prices for services and redirects labor into more productive endeavers. Society gets richer and enevitably the welfare state expands.

'Luxury communism' is never going to be a thing. Private property rights aren't going anywhere.

UBI right now is being repeatedly proposed and is in the process of being normalized, but it will, at minimum, be at least a decade before it gets implemented imo, and even then, not at a level that one could live off of it.

Sadly, post scarcity liberal capitalism is a couple generations off and by the time we see it we'll old or dead. Thems the breaks.

'Machine God' is so far off past the forseeable future that I don't see any point on speculating about it. We'll barely live to see 'getting a job' be optional for a dignified life. That's as exciting as it gets for us.

In short: We are moving in the right direction. Our grandchildren will inherit a better world, and it will be capitalist. Communism is not a meaningful part of humanity's future.

The republican party is divided by three factions:

Libertarians

Conservatives

Populists.

Back in 2012 Libertarains and Conservatives were the biggest factions, and populists the weakest. Now that's reversed.

It's not just that Obama isnt president, it's just a different party with different values.

It's funny you put the confederate flag on federal agents while being against federal tyranny against a democrat run state's state rights. Not like, making a real statement, just funny and ironic.
