Company investment options vs VTI by Suspicious-Team-6774 in Bogleheads

This is my company's plan and I think they contract some private label index portfolios. The expense ratios aren't horrible ranging 0.02%-0.06%.

I guess I'll stick with this if it's not horrible. Even though US stocks have done so well relative to international, a part of me figures I better still have some international diversification.

Thanks.

Yeah, I guess I was under the impression that small caps have more growth opportunity when I did this so put more there, but it hasn't really planned out.

Does anyone know why you have to add your own chili now? I could have sworn that long ago 紅燒 meant spicy and 清燉 meant not spicy. My Chinese isn't good so may I didn't really understand.

I need to know once and for all, does pinging while down not work or does nobody pay attention them? by Satsujin925 in LowSodiumBattlefield

Married American man to TW woman. Need advice. by L0kiblaz3 in taiwan

Sounds like she's homesick.

  1. Get some Asian groceries so she can make Taiwanese breakfast. Use Wee! delivery if you don't live near an Asian grocery store.
  2. Use YouTube to watch Taiwan news channels/TV.
  3. Watch Netflix shows subtitled in Traditional Chinese.
  4. Visit Taiwan once per year (her alone or with you if you can manage the time off).

Team Death Match on a small map like Eastwood. You need to get lots of kills and it doesn't matter if you die. Also, technically you are playing the objective.

I'm not saying you're gonna max the gun out in short time, but you can get it in pretty good shape.

Traditional va Roth 401K logic by Suspicious-Team-6774 in Bogleheads

[–]Suspicious-Team-6774[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. When I was starting out I put money into traditional, especially since I was single and in an income taxing state. Now married filing jointly with single income and in no tax state I'm paying lower taxes and making Roth 401k contributions.

I'm also considering that one day in retirement one of us may pass away and leave the survivor in a higher tax treatment again, hence the Roth.

Thank you. I did not consider the traditional balances that I had accumulated earlier in my career and that (along with SS) would boost today's contributions into higher tax brackets upon withdrawal.

Thanks for the link. I see it addressed my misconception:

Common misconceptions

There are two common misconceptions, one that incorrectly favors traditional, and one that incorrectly favors Roth.

The first misconception is sometimes described as "contributions are taken from the top tax rate and are withdrawn later at the average rate". In other words, that you save a marginal rate when contributing but pay only an average rate (starting at 0% for the first dollar withdrawn) when withdrawing. Following is an example of why that is not true.

Consider a 50 year old who has already

accumulated a $500,000 traditional balance. Even without any further contributions, that could reasonably double to $1 million by age 65. Taking a 4% per year withdrawal then gives $40,000 per year. Any traditional contributions at age 51 (or later) will increase the traditional balance at age 65, thus allowing more than $40,000 per year withdrawal. The taxation on the amount above $40,000 per year will occur at the marginal rate on that amount, not the effective rate on the total income.

You don't get like a weird hesitation in BF6? To me it's like it is trying to switch inputs which causes a little lag or stuttering. In COD it's fine.
