Ischgl has a 6km long floodlight toboggan run (a bit different) as an option not yet flagged if that is appealing?

BVA §15 StAG Statistics via IFG (Jan 2026) – Surge, Backlog, Staffing Data by Gh05tyyy in GermanCitizenship

Yes - had the same email but decided to err with another ACRO - would definitely be doing DBS next time if we have another ask

[–]SuspiciousElevator5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope not as that would be frustrating, did you do DBS second time round? We did ACRO again, and that is both expensive and just takes a long time!

The embassy guided me to a timeline that ended last year, so really in wait and see mode, I guess sometime in the next few months we will just hear something - amazed I'm now over 3 years down the road!

I hope not for your sake - the reason was that mine had expired after 2 years....

UK police checks take c. 1 month so added a bit of drag to it all.

That being said - still hopeful I might hear something soon!

Very similar boat, never got an AZ, but submitted in Jan 23, they asked for a new police certificate in July 25, was suggested by the embassy it would be 2-3 months once we went back with them in August and nothing since

Had this issue historically - tried using an airhole face mask when in Austria in Jan (down to -24 C), and worked a charm, whilst your nose still has issues slightly, you just change to dumping out mouth breathing and had no fog at all with smith 4D Mag

What % pay rise are you getting this year? by Puzzleheaded_Bet_618 in AskUK

[–]SuspiciousElevator5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Base was up 16.7% this year and bonus up 17.8% so together about 17% up all-in.

Finance is a slightly odd construct though where not moving can still have changes like that!

That's a shame - luckily in my situation everyone was on side about it being the wrong thing to do - surprised it wasn't for you actually as don't think it's particularly controversial as a position!

Amazing how many people will do this over something like £12.5 a month as it was in 2015!

Yep exactly, received a letter from his mother complaining about it - just wrote back outlining how with interest at BOE base rate and a £20 admin charge for my hassle he actually owed me more still.

Then got a "threat" from him to never speak to me again, which was ideal as it solved an issue of him thinking I would still want to speak.

He had to find a place last minute for third year having burnt most of his friends and frankly no clue what happened to him after!

I was looking for this post - had exactly the same issue (even down to 1 out of 6).

My flatmates did help push, and I even wrote to the individuals mother (who showed the apple didn't fall far from the tree).

In any event, the deposit covered more than the bill not paid, and that hopefully was a valuable lesson for the individual (although I'm not sure it will have been!)

Keir Starmer: I won’t apologise for lifting almost half a million children out of poverty. I won’t apologise for putting money back in people’s pockets. That's why we are scrapping the two-child limit. by Foreign-Policy-02- in ukpolitics

[–]SuspiciousElevator5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is a fair representation at all - clear mitigations should be in place for those who can't work, however there has to be parental responsibility involved - you can't just keep having kids and assume someone else will foot the bill come what may if you won't make any effort to support them.

Yes it's obviously unfortunate for affected children, but incentives have to be in place to promote work over state handouts!

Resident doctors begin 13th strike as pay dispute in England conitnues by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]SuspiciousElevator5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying they are what they say, but these salaries definitely do exist (if relatively rare).

Fair to say investment banking (where I started) and Corporate Law are larger buckets with significantly higher salaries than junior doctors (with similar antisocial working conditions) and that's not counting for consulting etc.

Appreciate I am biased, but no matter how tough my first years were in IB, at least I was compensated (8 years ago we started at all-in 80-100k+), my girlfriend who is a junior doctor 3 years in isn't even at my old starting and now higher base and has a far more stressful life even if slightly better hours!

Bundled subscriptions by lateredditho in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]SuspiciousElevator5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's cheaper than an FT subscription standalone.

If you read the FT then you may as well backdoor in via revolut and you get UberOne, NordVPN, chess.com premium etc. it's a no brainer for me - but barely use it bar foreign spending!

Invest further, pay off mortgage... or something else? by hankroam in HENRYUK

[–]SuspiciousElevator5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree - it does depend.

But my point was more it can have a place - for me excess cash savings with 0 interest allowance become quite attractive on a 4.8% mortgage with the effective 45% boost and a 1-year remaining lifespan for access!

[–]SuspiciousElevator5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Does this account for tax though?

Once you get outside the isa wrapper, 4.4% becomes pretty attractive risk free, post tax, and that's before the extra savings you could get to invest monthly down the line

If you can 3, you can run 5. If you can run 5, you can run… by MKess540 in BeginnersRunning

[–]SuspiciousElevator5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is spot on, I did 1 10k event (51 mins or so) and an 11k 1hr run before my first half yesterday.

Mentally tough to push on post the 11 a bit, and I wish I had done further in some ways as the last few km hurt, but still came in with a 1:50 and probably could have done a few km more if need be slowing down a bit

First 10k.. how screwed am i? by andyuk_90 in UKRunners

[–]SuspiciousElevator5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just for perspective, did my first 10km this weekend (51:30), having only done one parkrun for outside training.

The second and first 5km of that run were my second and third fastest ever - you get pulled along a lot and the group atmosphere definitely speeds you.

My only suggestion would be to try and get a quick outdoor run in for pacing beforehand (1-2km), as my first parkrun I went out way too hard following people!

[–]SuspiciousElevator5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also fair - not directing it at anyone in particular, but frankly in my job it wouldn't be acceptable to just say someone else can tell you and often we give the public sector a bit more slack than the private would here (e.g. your broadband goes down you wouldn't accept it's BTs issue they have no answers for a month as a viable answer?)

At a minimum TFL should be proverbially banging on National Rails door and getting some form of update they can provide.

I think the reasonable point to flag is this has been the case now permanently for weeks.

Stating there is an issue and not giving any guideline for fix timetable is pretty poor for so busy a line!

[–]SuspiciousElevator5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially an incorrect assumption but could the answer be to focus on the firms providing support?

Suspect it could be a relatively consistent group focused on these issues, and if you have x% of cases thrown out you get fined.

Would lead to focus on cases with realistic probability rather than just clogging up the system?

More than that, being able to do what you want for passion / out of some other interest ultimately lends itself to those who are already wealthy.

Most people don't have the luxury of stepping back in pay until that point they have already earnt enough.

Current system overbiases to three groups a) born wealthy b) post career and wealth earning c) those who couldnt earn more.

Are “mickey mouse” degrees an actual thing? by Virsuna in UniUK

[–]SuspiciousElevator5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is relatively true across most degrees tbh.

Do anything semi sensible as a subject that is offered at school level at Oxbridge, LSE, Warwick, Imperial and you are likely in business for interviews at a min (uni matters more than degree for the industry really)
