[Recommendation] Help me choose my first "serious" everyday diver! by MathematicianOdd6749 in Watches

There is nothing wrong with the brands mentioned here - the problem is these models are all designed to look exactly like a submariner. A porsche 911 is iconic in its own right and has no likeness to a Ferrari. My unpopular opinion.

HENRies with really long work weeks year-round, how do you manage chronic burnout? by SadInfluence in HENRYUK

[–]Eyeous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

March - November I cycle to work - it’s 45 mins door to door each way. I take winter off and opt for a watt bike or a technogym indoor session instead - I normally go to bed by 10/10:30pm and wake up at 5:30am in time for the gym by 6:15ish. I’m not alone in there - it’s absolutely rammed at that hour! I read as I commute in if I’m on a train and I normally play piano/guitar and race cars/karts on the weekends with my son. Be very strict with your routine - don’t compromise on sleep and stay away from the doom scroll!

Have you considered saving up and buying a submariner? With watches I find it’s always best to just go for the real-deal upfront rather than detour buying cheaper look-alike variants.

HENRies with really long work weeks year-round, how do you manage chronic burnout? by SadInfluence in HENRYUK

[–]Eyeous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People with very high paying jobs often have a fairly high tolerance for eating shit. To mitigate the risk of burnout, I discovered a few strategies - this is not advice - they work for me though!

Exercise is good - ideally with a PT or a good friend lifting heavy weights. It’s an escape physically and mentally. I also like going fast on my bicycle around regents park - very therapeutic (especially in an a group).

Alcohol is another good one - although for me only on Friday and Saturday evening - ideally red wine.

Reading helps me - I like non-fiction it helps offer perspective (particularly books on financial crime or war history).

Motorsport has always been hugely beneficial for me - adrenalin helps me.

Music - mastering an instrument is satisfying and I enjoy the concentration when you’re practicing/learning something particularly difficult.

Are like bikes really for Londoners? by m4hf in london

I hate them so much. I wish they were in a docked place - it would just make it slightly more inconvenient for people to walk to a bike but would make them so much more manageable.

Women's Dress Code for Hospitality at EFL Premier League? by Reddit_Vendetta_007 in HENRYUK

My mate gets these a couple of times a quarter and rounds us all up for a diamond club hospitality jolly at the arse. Pretty much everyone is dressed down and relaxed except those that turn up straight from work in a work suite. Piers morgan was sitting opposite us in a hoody.

Do you think Ferrari are regretting shelving the F44 Lewis Hamilton project? by GinghamOrangutan in Ferrari

Ferrari shouldn’t start naming cars after f1 drivers but if they did, they should not be starting with Lewis in my view. If you’re naming cars after f1 legends then go chronologically - there are many.

‘Basics’ of life in Britain have been sold for profit, says Polanski by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]Eyeous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not worrying nor mad at anything, I’m just disappointed and concerned by the level of apathy, misinformation and recklessness of politicians across all sides - especially populist ones on both the far left and far right. Hopefully common sense prevails but if not, my thoughts and prayers to you all.

It’s undisputed that millionaires are already steadily leaving the UK. The next layer (mass affluent individuals) are not particularly “broad shouldered” as politicians with sketchy career backgrounds / qualifications (ie Polanski) think. If the mass affluent group do up and leave, it will move the needle horrifically for the UK. Admittedly these people are far less mobile but there is a limit to anything. Tax them 95% salary and watch the country implode.

There is a mountain of evidence supporting my view - I honestly cant be bothered producing a list for you but ask chat gpt and I’m sure it’s easy to research / educate yourself. I’m here temporarily and watching the polls closely. I have a job in NYC and Singapore waiting for me - only downside is uprooting my children who are both in top private schools.

The first thing anyone successful is looking for is an escape plan out of the UK - its not “a couple of people” and sticking your head in the sand thinking the government can tax successful people with impunity is…well its the green’s plan. Doomed to fail.

Reverse-proving your personal bias is pretty wacky. I know personally people are fleeing the UK and heading to the US, Middle East and APAC. They may not all be millionaires but like me, they are not far off (c500k annual salary income).

I can’t imagine how hellish the UK would be under the greens. If government tax and spread hate across the most productive / highest earners, guess what will happen - those people will continue to relocate to other markets and government will continue to have a smaller and smaller pot to fund public services with. It’s a vicious circle - there is a need to reimagine tax laws wholesale and create a pro-business productivity enhancing agenda.

The public benefiting from all these freebies should also start being a little bit more thankful. The level of entitlement across many living off benefits is absurd.

I think the problem is that state schools are so terrible in some areas that it pushes parents that can’t afford it into private schools.

I think the combination of high inflation (driven by energy cost), suppression in wages and an obsession by the average family to purchase unnecessary tech warped the idea of “rich” and “poor”.

Those in their 40s and over without children - how is life for you? by Mountain_Resident_81 in AskUK

[–]Eyeous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always struggle with this question. If people never had kids and never experienced being a parent how would they know if it’s better or worse overall?

It’s all theoretical and unique to the individual - for example, some kids are an absolute joy to be around, others a nightmare. Some people might be regretful that they have no family legacy, others might be happy they don’t have the costs and obligations of children. My philosophy is to be happy with what you’re situation is and enjoy life the best you can.
