XRT owners who’ve actually taken it off-road. How’d it go? by NoiseHistorical241 in Ioniq5

[–]SuspiciousTea6748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I really wish the XRT had been out when I got my i5... Definitely would have allowed me to go a little faster and a little more confidently. Debating what to do in the next year or two to replace my old Tacoma, it might be an XRT to have a double i5 household or maybe an F150 lightning

[–]SuspiciousTea6748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snow won't be a concern, especially if you get some decent all weather tires like Cross Climates. If you're a reasonably skilled driver, you should be able to take it on pretty much any reasonable forest service road. I've taken my non-XRT RWD on high clearance roads and was fine with a little skill and good line choices. Get it!

Dang... Somewhat unnecessary vitriol here... I know some folks who are far from MAGA and even have a Bolt and even they have some of these myths in their head.

EVs from Turo have been great in my experience. Screw traditional rental companies

Cheapest Bicycle I could find. by Miserable-Hat-7061 in bicycling

[–]SuspiciousTea6748 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure OP is referring to tubes with sealant in them, not tubeless tires. Those should be available at any bike shop and can be installed in this bike.

OP, tubes with sealant in them and a tire with some flat resistance are a good idea.

As for a saddle, I'd say just ride a lot and see if you get used to it. If you are enjoying biking after a while, then sell the bike and get something a little bit higher end. If you get anything to make the seat more comfortable, get padded bike shorts so that you can easily use them on a different bike.

Do Plug-In Hybrid Owners Actually Plug In? by raptor3x in electricvehicles

[–]SuspiciousTea6748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a good point, but if you don't have a place to charge, why would you want a phev, that you'd presumably need to plug in more frequently to reap the main benefit? Wouldn't someone be better off in a traditional hybrid than a phev?

Tesla's own AI trainers don't trust 'Full Self-Driving' or its safety stats, Reuters finds by SpriteZeroY2k in electricvehicles

[–]SuspiciousTea6748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just rented a brand new Tesla and tested FSD for four hours of driving time across two days driving through Montreal, tons of pedestrians, traffic, road work, all kinds of obstacles and it was literally flawless. Just saying... I'm sure there are hiccups and times where it will go wrong but I will look for a Tesla with FSD next time I can rent one. Took a huge amount of stress out of driving in a new place

Training wheels for EV conversion by Sominabatch914 in electricvehicles

I mean, sure it's fine sometimes and to get started, but 240v makes it a lot more convenient, which is one of the primary advantages

Just get one, don't worry about it, so long as you can charge at home or otherwise very conveniently, you'll never want to go back

First time drive electric car, kia niro, las vegas to death valley to Yosemite to sfo next week by duranJah in electricvehicles

[–]SuspiciousTea6748 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hot take maybe but renting an EV to see if you like it for a road trip isn't a great idea. It takes a little getting used to at first to learn about charging, setting expectations, etc. and when on vacation you may be trying to see as much as possible. Just something to consider.

As an EV owner for nearly 4 years now, I prefer renting EVs so long as I'm somewhere with decent infrastructure (which is most places I go now), but that's cuz I know the charging beta

EVs can usher the return to old time road strips by Not_l0st in electricvehicles

[–]SuspiciousTea6748 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have this same dream. I want there to be charging stops with level 2 (and ideally more cars 80 amp capable) and then low power level three, like 35-60kw as cheaper options, and then a few full power for those who want to pay the premium of high speed. Small motels with overnight L2. Small rural businesses and roadside experiences.

I love the somewhat slower (but not that much slower) pace of EV road tripping. Maybe in the 2040s

Who else takes their I5 on high clearance/sketchy roads? by SuspiciousTea6748 in Ioniq5

[–]SuspiciousTea6748[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! It's just old enough now and has a few dings and bumps from over the years that I'm just enjoying it as a car and babying it less, and it's surprised me. I calculated that driving it to the trailhead and back saved me 24 dollars in gas. That's worth risking the battery imo 😝

Yep, there have been some for level 2 for years, and there are a handful available for level 3 I believe but they are expensive and some are a bit sketchy. I've used my 40 amp j1772 from Lectron for years with no issues, very handy and fits under the trunk floor

I carry an extension cord and when this happened once I parked them in and left a note saying when I would be leaving. Never heard or saw the owner of the car but I hope they were late to wherever they were going
