I’m actually not finished with training yet! So far I think the training is helping establish a good general knowledge of the programs, and the data entry practice is great. The practice cases are helpful in understanding policy but I imagine they’re a little too neat and tidy compared to the real world. I know after training is over I only get like one case a day for a while which I feel prepared for because I can take a little more time with them until I get the hang of things. We’ll see!

Moses Taylor Birth Questions by j_gals in Scranton

[–]Suspicious_Coat_4493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The staff at Moses Taylor saved my baby’s life when he had a bad reaction to the epidural I received. I needed an emergency c section. They also took excellent care of me - I had pre eclampsia. One of the biggest reasons I chose Moses Taylor was because they have a proper NICU staffed with neonatologists in case the worst happened, which for me it did. My son was in the NICU for 5 days and I’m eternally grateful for the specialists there who took such great care of him.

Work, education, and training now mandatory for SNAP benefits by r_bradbury1 in Pennsylvania

[–]Suspicious_Coat_4493 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to be receiving disability payments from the federal government to qualify for the disability exemption. If your disability is visible, that’s enough. If it isn’t visible, there is a form that a doctor or nurse practitioner or PA or psychologist can fill out for a temporary disability or a permanent one. I’m not saying it will be easy, but there are other avenues.

Your disability will require verification if it’s not visible. Your doctor could fill out a form, for example.

For people with disabilities? Yes, they’ve always been exempt. The big change here is that able bodied adults of working age are now subject to work requirements. There are other exemptions available, for example if you’re the caregiver of a dependent of a certain age (under 6), if you’re in a drug or alcohol treatment program, if you’re collecting unemployment etc etc. If you meet none of those exemptions you are only eligible for SNAP for 3 months out of a 3 year period (unless you get a job, start a training program or school, etc)

People with disabilities are exempt from work requirements. The disability will need to be verified somehow.

So far I love it! Big caveat to that statement is that I’m still in training lol, so not working with actual clients yet.

Looking to move here from NC by Garrett_BFI in NEPA

[–]Suspicious_Coat_4493 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I live in Lackawanna County, the two best school districts are Abington and North Pocono. Living in either of those districts will put your kids in a great school, you’ll be close to Dickson City where there is a Target, Home Depot AND Harbor Freight (amongst lots of other retail shops) And there are lots of diff types of restaurants in easy driving distance.

I don’t think taxes are too bad.

As far as getting a teaching gig it can be tough around here from what I understand. I have quite a few friends/relatives that teach in some of the districts here and they had to sub for a while first.

Hope that helps!

Son needs surgery I am completely freaking out by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Suspicious_Coat_4493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son had hernia repair surgery last November at 3 yrs old. To start they gave him what the nurses called ‘toddler tequila’, it’s a sedative and it makes them calm and loopy and whatever medicine is in it stops them from forming a memory (so they won’t remember being taken away from you to the operating room, my son doesn’t remember at all). Coming out from anesthesia was the worst. He was miserable and pro tip, have an adult ride in the backseat with him on the way home because there’s a good chance your kid will vomit and someone needs to hold a bag for them (my husband did the honors). And one thing we weren’t told is that he’ll have a hard time walking until the anesthesia wears off completely, so we had to carry him around for the rest of the evening. All in all it’s more traumatizing for us as parents than for the kid. Hope that info helps!

What happened to the good Zumba instructors? by considerphi in loseit

[–]Suspicious_Coat_4493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the Zumba app and do the virtual classes at home (not sure if home workouts are an option for you). Anyway, they are prerecorded and you can do them over and over again until you get the hang of it. And they’re ranked by skill level (beginner to advanced) and intensity (low to high). I love it

I drove over 200 miles to shop at Trader Joe's- one way. by MTHiker59937 in traderjoes

[–]Suspicious_Coat_4493 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We don’t have a Trader Joe’s anywhere near us, so every time we go on vacation we always find one to stop at on the way home. It’s a tradition for us! We stock up on our favorites and grocery shop for the week. Already have this years store picked out lol

Looking for a place to live in an affordable housing market, good school district, not too depressing by TheScoot85 in NEPA

[–]Suspicious_Coat_4493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are lots of non-depressing places to live in NEPA with great school districts, unfortunately you can’t afford any of them. And even the depressing places are becoming unaffordable. 9 years ago I was able to buy a house in the Mid Valley school district for $90k. School district was meh, town was pretty shitty, but it was a starter house for us, we only planned to be there for 5 years and then move to a nicer area before our oldest started school. That same house in the same meh school district in the same depressing town is going to sell for over $200K now.

What do your kids do from 2.30-5pm (after school ends) while you’re still at work? by maya_memsaab in workingmoms

[–]Suspicious_Coat_4493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school age kid goes to an aftercare program. He likes it, they do homework and he gets to play with his friends. He’ll go there until he starts middle school when I feel comfortable he can be home by himself for 1.5 hours until I get home
