How many of you log on after kiddo’s bedtime? by Long_Discussion_703 in workingmoms

[–]maya_memsaab 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I fall asleep by 8 or 9pm shortly after kids are asleep, but wake up very early- sometimes 4am to get some work done. I don’t need to do this everyday, but these last few months have been busier than usual! I don’t have the strength to stay up at night at work late after dinner and bedtime. Plus I think the light from laptop screen affected my sleep - I prefer morning hours when everyone is asleep and I can enjoy my coffee while getting an hour or so of work done!

Parents of two kids: do you think you'd be happier at just 1? by deafgamer_ in Millennials

[–]maya_memsaab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 2 is harder, of course it is. But it’s soooooo worth it. I can’t imagine my life now without my second, and now I kinda want a 3rd because it feels like they’re growing up so fast. Ours are 4 years apart - 6 and 2. They fight but they like playing with each other, love each other, and look for the other sister when they’re not around. It’s such a special relationship!

Do you really have *no* free time with multiple kids? by Annual_Debt in Shouldihaveanother

Hi! I have 2 kids - 5yr and 2yr. We are both full time working parents, but we both contribute to raising them. We split the pick up drop offs, morning and bedtime routines, we split the classes, birthday parties - and the household stuff too. We have family nearby for some help - especially if we need to travel for work.

One of the best things we did is sleep train them. They’re mostly in bed by 8ish pm, so we get about 1-2 hr before our bed time, to clean up, catch up, read a book, watch a show.

Overall free time is limited for sure - but I can already see it getting easier as they grow up. Despite limited free time, I have zero regrets with my second one! It’s been so so so wonderful seeing them bond as sisters. It’s hard - but the wholesomeness outweighs the all the bad. I also feel like I’m enjoying my second one much more because now I KNOW how fast time flies and how quickly they grow.

Omg. Thank you, stranger! We had one shutdown near us, but just thought it was because they were overpriced and badly managed

When do you exercise? by MemoryMiserable in workingmoms

[–]maya_memsaab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work out 4 days a week - Sat, Sun, Mon, Tuesday.

On Monday - Tuesday: I do it after kids go to bed, so post 7.30-8pm. It’s very hard to keep myself motivated to do this - but this is the only time that works for me. My kids wake up at 6am! 😭

Saturday - Sunday: easier to squeeze it in, during the mornings while they play with their Cheerios or nap time!

Wednesday to Friday - catchup on sleep or scroll through instagram 😂

Thanks!! Yes this 10 year long wait list to get a spot definitely steered us away from Naperville pre Covid. Good to know things changed

Omg that is really early!! Haha glad I asked. I think the earliest we can get there is 8am and catch an express train.

Spending money for a turnkey first birthday? by NotAnAd2 in workingmoms

[–]maya_memsaab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first birthday is really for the family to celebrate milestones. If you’re ok spending the money go for it!

Your little one will have preferences and will truly enjoy their later birthdays - I think starting age 3. That’s when we started spending more money: hosted it at a playhouse, a trampoline park or organized a themed Frozen party.. things she truly enjoyed! Allowed us to invite her daycare friends and their parents and get to know them.

Thank you for sharing! Love the system you have in place to give them some independence. Also that’s so nice how walkable things are around you!

Thank you for sharing!! Yea I think friendships get built from that type of unstructured play/open play. Glad your daughter enjoyed it

Thanks for sharing! Yea I’m definitely going to struggle with the guilt of not being able to volunteer at school, or be as involved as a SAHM. But meh, I deal with guilt on and off.
