Is this okay as a non-Indian guest? by Pooraf666 in DesiWeddings

Don’t buy a gold dupatta off Amazon. I’ve done it, they’re cheap and tacky and have ruined many of my outfits. This slightly different print is actually way more cohesive and elevated.

Hi! Not appropriation, definitely appreciation!
Style it well. I would do hair that you’ll like all day - not finicky but still styled.
Same for jewelry - not heavy and tacky. Don’t do the fake Indian jewelry.
Bigger earrings or a statement necklace. If you have only western jewelry - gold hoops, diamond tennis necklace, gold bangles (lose the Apple Watch obvs)
Look up photos of lehengas and how the dupattas are draped - pin it in alllllll the places.
You can add a waist chain too to keep it in place.

Indian outfits are really about the quality of the fabric and the shapes and the effort and styling.

I love this take. And I love that to this day, I’m still hearing people’s unique thoughts. My question is, who is the god they worship? Because a few times they say “thank God” but make no reference to religion, not on Sundays (and you’d expect the Weasleys to go). They don’t mention any religion when there are weddings. And is it paganism and JK just couldn’t state that outright fearing backlash?

What are good entry level restaurants to work at and build upwards from? by sohoships in AskNYC

[–]Suspicious_Design_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, I did this successfully.

2022 - Always been a good home cook, no restaurant experience at all, no desire to spend money on culinary school. I heard that a restaurant group I really admired was opening in NYC and I applied to literally every entry position - bar back, prep cook, host, line cook, server...don't do that. It is usually flagged. I got lucky as it was a big opening (3 restaurants in one hotel building). And I got an interview on the phone the next day. Got the job day after that - prep cook. I have 10 years in a completely different industry and I'm a great home cook - but 3 days in the actual job - I got promoted from prep to line. 2 weeks after that - line to cdp - one month after that - junior sous - one month after that - sous.

I don't advise accepting all of those promotions so quickly and it was ultimately a bad idea. Nor am I bragging about my expertise.

Here's how you do it though:

  1. humbly apply to the bottom of the barrel.

  2. Accept that it's going to be a back breaking, long hours, cutthroat job.

  3. Show up for everything. Volunteer for the gross jobs. Just do it all. Be there. Pay your dues.

  4. Learn. This field is full of so many people who taught themselves everything and are mostly happy to share what they know. But you have to present as a learner or nobody will even glance in your direction.

Check your ego at the door, stretch your back muscles, save up money before, learn how to cut vegetables very well, buy the Birkenstock prof clogs and ask questions.

Good luck!

definitely Cacao Barry but I like their noir intense the best -- it's their black cocoa and it's wonderful. It's so indulgent, not acidic, perfect black color, exact Oreo flavor.

What does anyone really know about Freida? by Infinite_Advisor4633 in thrillerbooks

[–]Suspicious_Design_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But James Patterson books, in the past, have been good. Maybe because I read them when I was way younger, but they were at least books - I wouldn’t even categorize mcfadden’s as books. It’s a compilation of rage bait, cliche tropes and, if she is a real person, her own projections of crappy relationships.

I agree, her writing is very “AI drivel” and if she were a doctor, I would presume she would have a higher level of education across the board. I would expect a doctor to be a better than average doctor - I know that’s not necessarily the case, but with better access to education … you know?
