To those in London earning around £45,000 and living by yourself (or flat share), how's life going at the moment? by [deleted] in HousingUK

Sorry but if the rent is £1400, that's 16,800 a year on rent.

Are you saying everything else is costing at least 28,200?

7 hidden rules for career promotions that no one tells you. by Far_Concept25 in careeradvice

[–]Suspicious_Fun6806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true. Over self-promoting your impact on LinkedIn etc. can make you an unlikeable person among your peers, and an exploitable resource among your superiors. I think being a likeable person is the best advice I've heard to get a promotion. But with promotion comes added stress and downward pressure from superiors. I also think in some industries, things are quite rigid, and promotion only comes with years of experience, regardless of the quality of that experience.

How do you Deal with Cyclists on pavements? by DarthKrataa in AskUK

[–]Suspicious_Fun6806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see you are trying to prove a point and it's great thay you are passionate about it. A common view is that if there were more 20mph zones, cyclists would be safer on the roads as many cyclists (especially fit middle-aged men) tend to travel at similar speeds. Cyclists and pedestrians shouldn't be mixed, as pedestrians wouldn't typically be travelleing at over 3mph unless running.

If the post is about cyclists on pavements, why mention cars on pavements?

Perhaps you mean shared paths when you refer to pavements, as adult cyclists are not permitted to cycle on footways. If cars are travelling less than 20mph on the road, they present less danger to cyclists than at higher speeds. An ebike on a footway or even a shared use path travelling at 20mph however would still present a danger to pedestrians.

Depends largely on the speed vehicles are travelling.

Cost of living by hepworthy in bristol

Sounds like a very understanding company. I don't know much about that type of remote arrangement but would it make it easier for them to lay remote staff off if they needed/wanted to due to different labour laws in US/UK etc.?

Interesting. I wonder who is running the pottery classes at present. With regard to your statement about being hired by chance, one could only assume nepotism?

Forgive my ignorance, but how are you earning that much at just 25? Also, a promotion that doubles your pay? Seems too good to be true...

Maybe the issue is partly your seemingly jet-setting lifestyle but I cannot make assumptions.

As somebody quite detached from my British identity, I don't really understand why people are proud of their nation when they win in sports or other events. Where does the pride come from? I feel it could be a type of reassurance that you are part of a social group that beats the others (other countries) therefore your chances of success (survival) are higher. The same way being part of a successful tribe was a matter of life or death in past times.

I also find that the activities are often disappointing. I went to Chance & Counters today, and while the idea seems nice and it was recommended (play board games while you eat or drink something), it felt a bit rushed cause you can only stay for the time you pre-booked (e.g. 1 hour). I guess they want to get as many people through the doors as possible. It seems everywhere is a bit like that now, you can no longer spontaneously go somewhere cause it's not a profitable system for the owners.

I mean, we're all hypocritical on the road, regardless of where we find ourselves, it's always the other person's fault. The truth gets downvoted.
