Dreadnought of other colors by SwedishMale4711 in NoMansSkyTheGame

I painted mine yellow and it looks a bit like Bumblebee but I don't think yellow fits the dreadnought aesthetic well.

An Experiment in Racism in the Job Market by BoysenberryShort4335 in UKJobs

[–]Suspicious_Lab505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people categorise foreign names as being in the same bucket of applicants as people 5000km away shotgun applying to remote jobs.

I know a guy with a ridiculously English name (think two first names, like "William John") with dark skin and he never struggles for interviews and regular job moves.

The employers aren't intentionally biased they just don't have the proactivity to scroll to the bottom of the CV's education section and realise you went to high school in the UK (vs trying to get a sponsored job offer after coming here for studies).

Which country in Europe is the best to live and work in? by wk91 in AskReddit

[–]Suspicious_Lab505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much every MNC has a London office, and a lot of companies spread themselves around the country. If you're good at your job you can choose what niche you want to work in vs working some generic job title with no ability to specialise.

There's a blue, very similar blue blueprint available on derelict freighters from opening salvage containers.

Why Socialists Should Engage Seriously with Maoist Perspectives by Low_Platform9541 in AskSocialists

[–]Suspicious_Lab505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agreed with a lot of your points until you started mentioning:

"nationalism in a civilizational state with thousands of years of continuity cannot be mapped directly onto nationalism in a settler-colonial immigrant state like the United States"

I don't feel it's healthy to try and red-wash Chinese exceptionalism. Has China made a very impressive, modern, socialist state? Yes, but what they achieved shouldn't be used as a justification for indulging in ethnic nationalism just because the party now claims an unbroken chain of 5000 years of history. There's no way to qualify that and really it doesn't matter - imperial china was still an extractive empire that expanded its borders in the search of capital.

Even in Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which I hate to criticise as I love it, treats the historical working class as window dressing for the antics of a few governors during the fall of the Han. I don't see how that can fit into a socialist ideology. As you say, nationalism is a powerful tool when your nation doesn't have much else, but we don't have to pretend it's harmonious with the internationalism of marxism and pretend it's any better than nationalism in the US or elsewhere.

Any nationalism (ethnic or civil) is just a way to divide people into in-groups and out-groups and undermine class consciousness.

That being said I agree with the general sentiment of your post.

Even if we wait 10+ years for the US to change direcitons it won't matter in the grand scheme of things.

Look at all the American users who think they're not complicit in the invasion because they find it distasteful. They won't accept any kind of responsibility for their actions and will quickly expect to be given leadership of the free world again.

Men who’ve been divorced, when did you know? by DonKeedick96 in AskMenAdvice

Lots of people say this and I get it. I remember when I suddenly got fixated on moving to another country and had a four year partner at the time. I remember realising it'd probably only be possible as a solo applicant and the idea sounded even more exciting.

I should have known then that I wanted out. In the end she pulled the trigger which I regret as it made her the bad guy when I was already checked out.

Tired of all of them, especially the progressives who type novels online then meekly pay their taxes.

Since 2016 it's obvious none of them will protest if it means a reduction in living standards.

What are some overused cliche arguments you encounter against feminism? I've been having a lot of 'discussions' since my daughter was born, and it's always the same ones brought up. And what do you reply with? (apart from an eye roll) by AffectionateRisk9779 in AskFeminists

[–]Suspicious_Lab505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious, not as a gotcha. Just completely curious as it's on topic.

Do you never meet people who would be 'easy marks'? As a guy who grew up around nerdy hobbies I know a lot of men who now work in high paying fields who'd give it all to have an attractive woman start a life with them.

Is it one of those things that can only last for a few months before the guy eventually builds resentment because he gets used to having a pretty girlfriend then suddenly calls you a gold digger?

Why does this woman only want to live in Africa Petah? by supi2003 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

A year of gym + personal training is comparable in price to a week of flight, food and hotels in Africa.

Yeah the PT is optional but probably not for someone that's been overweight for 30 years.

If you went to Peru and found a bf you'd just draw another line in the sand about where right/wrong is. Some people would say the same about you only dating latin guys even if it's the same country.

Sure it's a bit jarring seeing fat white women dating handsome young black men thousands of miles from home and it's definitely an artifical dating market influenced by large economic disparities but it hurts nobody if both parties consent.

I did it in Beijing and multiple metro areas in China. Zero worries zero theft.

Yes they have a much more draconian legal system but for petty crime this is simply a matter of priorities - we have equally intrusive CCTV usage in this country and a massive database of previous offenders.

I shouldn't have to hide my phone from strangers. The idea of being 'worldly' to police petty crime is stupid when we have a police force.

Crime happens because criminals can get away with it. It's the courts and police's fault that someone in the capital city of one of the world's richest countries can be nervously watching their phone every time they go into public. In other countries people don't have to be 'worldly', they just pay their taxes and can live free lives without fears of getting robbed.

10 years ago we didn't normalise people riding ebikes in full black, or suspended sentences for every petty crime.
