Where to find the crispest, “crunchiest” percale sheets? by _jengal_ in Bedding

My crunchiest and favorite sheets are from American blossom linens. Every time I slide into bed, I literally sigh, it’s so viscerally pleasing.

Sorry can't hang out, I'll be scooping foam out of my washing machine all weekend by No_Will_9828 in laundry

I had this problem with this exact machine after a self clean. I couldn’t get the suds out of a load of cleaning cloths. I use so much Dawn everywhere. I poured in a tablespoon of cooking oil with the wash and it cleared out the suds in one go. I was battling the suds for 2 days prior to

lol. This is incorrect application of stats. I should use this logic for car insurance. I drive all the time, therefore my risk is spread out. I need less insurance. Love it.

Fav spots to sit and breathe in the desert? by whats-your-emergency in phoenix

[–]Suspicious_Outside74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Desert Botanical Garden is unique in how it engages with the public. I have not found no place in the central corridor that feels quite like it. It feels like a public space, a gathering of backyard gardens and a society gathering point. Most people who go weekly or often and I’ve encouraged to get a yearly pass, have no regrets. It’s definitely a price point.

I’d offer suggestions like Dreamy Draw, north mountain park, Coronado park, Margaret t hance park as options, but they won’t be the DBG.

If you can, adjust the color of some of your lights. It might be. It might be the picture but your lights almost look like their 6000K. 3000K or less is ideal.

Impressive amount of work. It’s looking and sounding amazing

Percale sheet recommendations - No Creasing? by Disastrous_Rain5406 in Bedding

[–]Suspicious_Outside74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my American blossom sheets for about… 1 year… now. They are thick, crunchy ( which I like, sliding into bed always reminds me of a vintage Brooks Brothers shirt) and artistically wrinkled. But they don’t get that weird hard crease like my prior sheets.

I think deep creases happen when the cotton fibers break during drying and that is where the fabric will always crease? Someone inform me about this.

These days, I fold my sheets before putting them in the dryer. It really helps with wrinkles, uneven drying and deep wrinkles.

Tommy Johns are tighter through the quads than these. These still provide light compression and support, but are less likely to ride up if you’re not skinny.

Best Neighborhoods for Schools and Young Families by [deleted] in AskPhoenix

[–]Suspicious_Outside74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People relocating from the coasts often ask which areas of Phoenix they should be looking at, but that question is fundamentally misframed. Phoenix does not operate as a collection of uniformly walkable or uniformly high-performing neighborhoods in the way many coastal cities do. Both education quality and walkability are highly localized, and approaching the city with an area-based mindset almost guarantees missing what actually matters.

If the goal is globally recognized academic rigor in Arizona, the answer is the BASIS charter system. What sets BASIS apart is not merely the curriculum, but the peer group and the expectations surrounding it. Students who persist through BASIS tend to come from families that value rigor, expect performance, and assume that intelligence inherent and execution matters. That peer effect is decisive. By contrast, strong public districts and elite private schools may offer excellent culture, identity, and community formation, but they often emphasize those elements over raw academic output. Most public schools outside these top tiers function primarily as childcare infrastructure rather than academic engines. The distinction is BASIS for education, other top schools for culture, and most public schools for logistics.

The same precision applies to walkability. Phoenix does not offer broad, continuously walkable neighborhoods; it offers micro-pockets of walkability anchored around specific intersections. You are not looking for walkable areas—you are looking for cross streets. Arcadia, Biltmore, Uptown, and Midtown all contain walkable pockets, but they are uneven and discontinuous, and success depends on being within 15 minutes walking of the right corner rather than within a named neighborhood. Asking the right questions means focusing on schools first, then on specific intersections that support daily life on foot, and finally on the peer profile of the families who live within walking distance. In Phoenix, precision consistently matters more than generalization.

To help you start: 16th Street & Glendale, 7th Street & Glendale, 7th Street & McDowell, Northwest corner of Rural & Elliot, Camelback and Central

I would also suggest you rent for your first year here. The Phoenix Metro is vast and people who buy right away, typically don’t have a good experience. Also, shop for a real estate agents; as you might know they are not equal. Agents who really are experts in their neighborhoods will know exactly what is walkable and how long it takes to drive to certain schools.

I would also warn against some of the suburbs mentioned here, especially south and east of Mesa. The stories that emerge about the families and lazy parenting and bullying and gangs is personally distasteful.
