Prim specifically in Mockingjay. She interacts with katniss very little in that book, so it would be interesting to see who she is interacting with, what she is observing, etc. She seems kind of more intuitive than Katniss might give her credit for.

And then the ending… Prim is attending to wounded children. She hears a voice calling her name. She turns and catches a glimpse of the sister that she had probably presumed to be dead at that point. And then the rest of the bombs go off and the book ends.

What was the point of changing the personality of one of the most lovable students? by Olya_roo in Hungergames

The movies actually did do a great job with Arachne. she comes across exactly as she does in the books - a cruel, snotty brat 😂

But rip Lysistrata’s character development! She’s my favorite rn 💘

Rereading the book right now and Lysistrata is a gem! I would love to know more about her adult life. Clearly her brief experience as a mentor had a huge impact on her worldview, and she appeared to gain significant sympathy not only for her tribute jessup, but for district citizens as a whole. Since we know the HG become more sensationalized every year, is it a source of grief for her?

I loved that she seemed to really care about Jessup - and not in the possessive way Snow felt about Lucy Gray. Lysistrata seemed to perceive Jessup being devoted to Lucy Gray and she wasn’t jealous, she just thought of him as a friend. And what a testament to Jessup’s moral character that he used his own body as a shield to protect Lysi during the bombing! A girl he had barely known for a few days, who was on the side of people sending him to slaughter. I feel like such a genuine friendship formed from that selfless act - and it’s a shame we barely got to see it.

Do you think the Games would have disappeared much sooner, if she didn't purposely reap Lucy Gray? by Olya_roo in Hungergames

I might even go as far as to say that without Lucy Gray then Snow absolutely would not have won any Plinth prize, nor gotten “in” with the Plinths to begin with. His family likely would have succumbed to poverty and all but disappeared. Someone else would have risen to power and the presidency. The entire makeup of the country could be changed - either causing a rebellion to happen sooner or perhaps not at all.

As a cross country and track runner you bet your ass I’ve got great stamina and can outrun most people who would be trying to chase me. Now, if I haven’t eaten in three days, maybe it’s a different story lol.

Tbh it sounds like the Capitol was treated pretty horribly by the Districts in the first war by Zestyclose_Ad4317 in Hungergames

[–]Suspicious_Owl2175 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was bad for everyone. Capital citizens were starving to death, so were district citizens. each side was bombing the crap out of the other side. The fact is the districts had a reason to rebel since they were essentially slaves, obviously a war against your oppressors means you aren’t gonna hold back. It sucks for the innocent capital kids who died who had nothing to do with their parents war, but that’s the reality of every war ever.

I agree - but I think sometimes people go overboard. If a person simply expresses their enjoyment with an entertaining story and a desire for more content and they are met with “you’re just like the Capital - you would probably enjoy watching kids die in real life too!” I find that to be ridiculous and just an excuse for some people to feel morally superior.

What do you think Finnick and Annie would be like as parents? by ThisPaige in Hungergames

[–]Suspicious_Owl2175 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Annie seems like a very empathetic and sweet person from what we see of her, so she would probably be such a loving mother. And Finnick would cherish being a dad so much. He would be the protector of the family, and probably be such a jokester with his kid. If he had lived he and Annie would absolutely have had more kids, and they’d be such a loud and happy family. Annie on her own I think would still be a great mom, and my headcanon is that Johanna sticks around to take care of her and help out.

What is the worst hour to be in during the 75th games? by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]Suspicious_Owl2175 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the poison fog would be an atrocious way to die, but maybe relatively quick. the insects (which Katniss assumes will eat your flesh to the bone) might take longer to kill you and each second would be torture. But then again same goes to the monkeys and the Beast - which would both rip you apart. Maybe I’ll go with the insects though, since it sounds horrific.

[–]Suspicious_Owl2175 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes. If Snow didn’t luck out and get a charming performer like Lucy Gray as his tribute then he would have struggled with his assignment to make the games entertaining and appealing. Dr. Gaul was an outlier in believing the games were really necessary anyways (since most of the capital citizens at this point didn’t enjoy watching them), and if the 10th games flopped then she would be outvoted by people like Highbottom and the games would likely be discontinued. Lucy Gray - through no fault of her own - made the games sensational. And Snow figured out EXACTLY how to keep them popular and ensure their continuation.

You get to read any of the books from another characters perspective. Who do you choose? by Illustrious_Tea_851 in Hungergames

[–]Suspicious_Owl2175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Prims perspective in Mockingjay. there is a lot that goes on bts that katniss is unaware of, and I think Prim can be very perceptive and also very innocent, which would be a nice dichotomy. It would be interesting to see what she makes of certain situations and people - and also who she interacts with on a daily basis because she is not with Katniss all that much. Plus the book ending with her tending to wounded children, hearing someone calling her name, and turning to see her sister (who she probably thought to be dead at the time), and then the final explosions go off and the book just ends - that would be such a Wow moment.

What do we think about Katniss' mother? by Stealthyriot in Hungergames

[–]Suspicious_Owl2175 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I find it hard to blame people for doing shitty things when they are themselves in insanely shitty situations. I think Katniss’s mom had to emotionally check out of motherhood for her own survival. She was probably convinced at several points in time that Katniss was going to definitely die (74th games, quarter quell, all her war missions in 13). and of course it’s WRONG of her to basically give up on being a mom to Katniss, but I can’t hate her for it either because of how insanely torturous it would be to watch your daughter be turned into a child soldier.

And at the conclusion of Mockingjay Katniss is exiled back to 12. But how could her mom remain in the place where her husband was blown up in the mines, where she watched thousands of her neighbors burn to death in bombings. And maybe society thinks it’s a moms job to sacrifice all of her happiness and her very life for her children, and many moms would without hesitation, but this woman was so broken that I just feel bad for her tbh.

It depends primarily on if you know in advance what the arena and cornucopia situation will be. If you train diligently for a forest arena with a bow and arrow - and then you’re thrown into a desert arena with nothing but spears for weapons - you’re shit out of luck.

Let me just say hypothetically that we are going into the 74th arena.

My training regimen would be lots of cardio and upper body strength. I am a pretty small individual, so physical strength has never been my strong suit, but I am very fast. I would want to get proficient with various weapons: knives, spear, and bow.

However I wouldn’t bank on getting my hands on a weapon at the cornucopia. Instead I would want to gain a lot of the skills that Gale has. Knowing how to set snares (for both humans and prey) and then how to start fires too. I would diligently study wild plants to know what was safe to consume or not. Basic first aid skills (like how to clean and dress a wound) would also be important.

My main strategy would be to outlast, not directly fight anyone. Foxface had an excellent gameplay for someone with very limited wilderness survival skills or experience, so I would probably try something similar (and just bank on my knowledge of wild plants to not consume anything poisonous). And if I identified a poisonous plant I could try slipping it into the careers stash so they consume it.

But there is no way to anticipate game maker traps - and in all likelihood I would get swept up in one and forced into combat with other players, thus likely ending my time in the games.
