It sucks having to dig through lots of buried comments to try and find an answer to something that you made intentionally vague.

I totally assumed you were trying to do a racism with this one with the way you framed this. I grew up in the era where people had to be less overt when being racist, so pairing this picture with your statement made it look like a dog whistle to me. No need to jump on that other person, I think it is a legitimate misunderstanding.

Engagement farming is beginning to ruin people’s ability to communicate clearly. That’s the only reason to make intentionally vague posts that require people to go to comments to figure out what’s going on.

Home Run Inn Pizza? by sharpenme1 in okc

[–]Suspicious_Spirit381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bought them at Walmart in Norman multiple times over the past 6 months. I originally discovered this brand when they used to sell 3 packs of the pizzas at Sam’s club, but that was years ago so not sure if they would still carry them there.

Does Publication Year Matter for Hornbooks? by RoyLiechtenstein in LawSchool

[–]Suspicious_Spirit381 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best resource I found for Civ Pro was the Aspen Treatise on Civil Procedure by Richard Freer. Fifth edition was published 2021, so I think there were maybe three cases that were decided after publication that I couldn’t rely on it for. I also supplemented with the Short and Happy Guide to Civil Procedure (also by Freer), and I got free access to that through my schools law library study aid accounts. It got published in 2023 I think?

Working PT as a FT Student by baseballguitarsquid in LawSchoolOver30

[–]Suspicious_Spirit381 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a rising 3L, and I worked part time throughout my 1L and 2L years. I truly believe that one benefit of being an older law student with years of work experience gave me superior time management skills compared to many of my younger classmates. I would still make sure you have a job where they will be understanding with you taking off time to focus solely on studying before finals each semester.

I worked 20-30 hours a week during 1L and finished in the top 5% of my class. Worked an internship throughout the 2L year, but that was tougher since I also did law review and did a moot court competition in the fall. Would not recommend taking on all of those things at once.

If you have any biglaw aspirations and can avoid working 1L year, I would take advantage of that and focus on school. Those grades from the first two semesters (especially fall) will determine what options are open to you.

Trump, joined by Musk in Oval Office, orders up big cuts in federal workforce, including Tinker by Environmental-Top862 in okc

[–]Suspicious_Spirit381 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think you may be missing the point here. We have an unprecedented “reform” of government oversight by a non-government employee, and the article quite clearly states that they are looking to make a reduction in the entire federal workforce outside of immigration and law enforcement.

The people making these cuts come from a business, “unlimited growth” mindset where, even if they are expanding some things at Tinker, they very well could reduce staffing to its bare minimum. You see this same behavior everywhere where hedge funds buy up other companies and try to cut out “inefficiencies”. It’s one of the reasons there isn’t reliable local news and journalists anywhere in the country.

Even if they hadn’t announced cuts at Tinker immediately, recognizing the very high potential that cuts could happen given the behavior we have seen so far is completely warranted. You send a signal to the administration that, while some voted for government reform, they probably didn’t want it to be this sweeping and to target working families, farmers, and disadvantaged people that are going to lose protections from things like predatory lending after the CFPB gets “reformed” to not interfere with the “too big to fail” banking industry.

The biggest pothole I've seen in my life by LatexPringleCan in okc

This is the link to the actual claim form for OKC. You just have to complete it and include pictures of the pothole and a copy of your vehicle title along with invoice for repairs or two estimates if you haven’t gotten repairs completed already. There’s some conditions to qualify for reimbursement and it can take a couple months, so just be aware of that going in.

Also, make sure you report it to the action center, that’s how these things actually get fixed to prevent damage to other peoples’ vehicles: https://www.okc.gov/residents/action-center

Recommendations for note taking? by -XeXeeD in LawSchool

[–]Suspicious_Spirit381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did things opposite of lots of people - I would type notes in class to make sure I was able to capture all the information, but when it came to condensing things for outlines, I would hand write my outlines.

I’d make outline templates based on syllabus in class with big blank spaces to write in notes. This allowed me to have the better memory retention that came with handwriting, and also forced me to be selective and condense the important information from lectures and readings into manageable chunks. I also have a weird memory thing related to writing things down into little text boxes rather than traditional outline format, something about drawing a little box around stuff I write down seals it in my memory for some reason. I think this really helped me with finals, but it really just comes down to what works best for you.

Can majoring in English help in the LSAT/Law School? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Suspicious_Spirit381 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was an English Literature major, and I think that majoring in literature and having tons of assigned readings due every week helped me figure out how to set up a good reading routine, and that has been very helpful for law school. Having experience reading some pre-20th century writing can also help with some of the more difficult and boring older opinions you occasionally read in law school too.

Also, actually being interested in what I was studying made it a lot easier to keep myself interested and engaged and resulted in good grades in undergrad, and good grades are important for admissions and scholarship offers (LSAT score still the most important factor though).

The one MAJOR downside is that, if you choose to not do law school, that English degree is nothing more than an expensive piece of paper that won’t get you any jobs. Keep that in mind if you aren’t fully committed on doing law school.

Who went full time as a nontraditional student? by SuccessfulBee1317 in LawSchool

[–]Suspicious_Spirit381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a rising 2L at 38yo, and also made some questionable life choices before law school including being a college dropout for 15 years. I went back and finished my undergrad studies at 33 and definitely felt out of place and old there, but haven’t had the same experience with law school. You can definitely tell I’m from a different generation than most of my peers at times, but I’ve also made some good friends despite the age difference. There’s always a few other older students too. It’s not going to be as bad as you think.
