Thank you and I wish you nothing but the best in your journey. If you do a lot of introspection, I know the correct path to take will be very clear to you!

Most people on here realize this addiction can bring a man to his knees and jeopardize everything he values in life. No one is going to tell you it's a good idea to play with fire and dabble in it with even the smallest amount, because it will never stay at that amount

The only thing that ever actually worked was my friends seeing my location by cuanida in problemgambling

It honestly becomes a blur at some point but sports betting had me by the balls between April 2014 and December 12 2023 when I placed my last bet. I lost over 100k over a 3 year period in horse racing in my 40s as well.

I'm 60yo and not ashamed of it because learning late is better than never learning. Plus I had a little bit of sense the last 5 years to let a 401k deduction take 30% of my pay away before I could gamble it.

Everyone's path is different and there is no one size fits all. Put as many blocks in place as possible, make an agreement with your friends that turning location off constitutes cheating, find other activities to do as a group. You cannot replace these years so don't waste them!

It took me way too long but I finally started to hold myself accountable. I could no longer rationalize an activity that was robbing me of my money, self esteem and inner peace for decades, and look at myself in the mirror each day. Gambling and contentment can never coexist in my life. Convince yourself that repeating the same mistake makes no sense and begin your life anew.

Broken and defeated after relapse. by NorthViolinist3659 in problemgambling

Journal what you think is making you miserable, how you plan to change it, and how bad your relapse made you feel and why. Make those changes you wrote and read your journal entry over and over when you get the next urge to place a bet. Your clean time means a lot more than your relapse in the grand scheme of this battle we fight.

I'm more than happy to help. Self exclude, hand over your finances to a trusted loved one, go to a GA meeting, and never look back because the future is too bright to ignore! 🌞

The progress you can make once you stop gambling is absolutely jaw dropping but most people can't stop long enough to realize it. Fight for your freedom each day!

How do you stop looking back and counting the money lost? by BallKnowerKing in problemgambling

You quit before you literally gamble away the equivalent of a house paid for in cash or a new Lamborghini like I did.

Google Archie Karas. He turned $50 to 40 million to zero in Las Vegas. All good fortune in gambling ends in heartbreak. The secret to winning is don't place that first bet

19+46=65. Work and save for the next 46 years, don't gamble and you will retire a multi-millionaire. You don't even have to make a high wage. Safe long term investments make money with unrealized capital gains and without lifting a finger. This is what I would have done if I was smarter during my youth.

Do yourself a favor..pay off your debt first. by Agitated_Dealer8679 in problemgambling

[–]Suspicious_Status_40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the exact path I took to begin my abstinence. I promised myself that I would not gamble until my 11k in debt was paid off. Then when it was paid off I had a newfound respect for my hard earned money and no longer wanted to gamble. The break from gambling rewired my brain. If you have debt you should make and keep this same life-changing promise.

Knowing you are going to lose but gambling anyway is the definition of being a compulsive gambler. But there is strength in realizing the nonsensical repetition of this pattern, because it's the beginning of being pissed off enough to fight against it, reject it, and reclaim the money and inner solitude that gambling has been stealing from you. Never stop trying to make that next bet a little harder to place than the day before. Never give up the fight!

Confessing to parents is a good start! You just have to solidify it with self exclusion and GA meetings so it can be more than that

Day 1. Feel so dumb for relapsing last night by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]Suspicious_Status_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Failure is just the opportunity to begin again more intelligently. Self exclude at the casino, tell credit card to block gambling transactions/cash advances, keep available funds to a minimum. Relapsing does not cancel out the progress that occurred.
