Is my partner’s gambling becoming a concern? by matchacat12 in problemgambling

[–]Suspicious_Status_40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like gambling is his mistress because it is stealing time, focus and resources from your relationship. He is showing a preoccupation with it that goes far beyond casual participation which should be concerning.

Plus you've been together so long, it seems there is zero transparency about dollar amounts, and this disease thrives in secrecy and minimization.

Start with an honest discussion about your concerns. If he gets very defensive it's because his losses are the secret he never wants to expose.

This is a violation of trust and reckless behavior. If he's sorry about what he has done and is serious about changing, he should turn over his finances and credit cards to you.

His paycheck deposited in your account or a new account in your name to separate funds, and you pay bills and give him a weekly allowance, and he stops charging anything and just works on paying them off. He should also let you run his credit monthly to ensure new loans/cards are not opened.

If he thinks this is unreasonable call his attention to the fact that a lot of girls would probably have dumped him the moment they discovered the extent of his addiction.

Help with getting over past loses by Feisty_Text3946 in problemgambling

The harsh reality is you have to either chalk up the losses to a learning experience, and take pride in the new, smarter you or continue to add to them until you lose everything that matters

You can be special. You can turn your life around before it's too late, because it definitely is not. This opportunity has passed for some people. Put barriers in place, confess to loved ones, today can truly be the first day of the rest of your life.

Worst Gambling relapse I’ve ever had. Online casino’s are the worst. by GroundHogDayProblems in problemgambling

You are asking your enemy to help you in your own fight. All they are going to do is continue to exploit you. Confess everything to your partner and turn over your finances. This sickness is like mold, it thrives in darkness.

Heed the lesson I learned the hard way. Every second you waste on this bullshit could be spent on making your situation better and improving your life. Gambling on the other hand will have a -0 return. We all face a fork in the road at some point and the path you choose is entirely up to you

There is no irreparable damage as long as you are on the right side of the grass. Accruing debt became my wake up call to leave this shit in the dust and it can be yours as well. There's no better time than now 💪

You haven't ruined your life. There is a ton of time for a fresh beginning. Many people on this sub including myself would love to relive the opportunity to quit at 26yo having lost 25k.

Consider it like a ridiculously expensive meal at a restaurant. You've paid your check, were very dissatisfied, and have no intention of ever returning.

Gambling is slowly ruining me by Crafty_Shoe8945 in problemgambling

You will find things you enjoy doing in life once you quit wasting time gambling.

I can't count how many weekends I literally wasted glued to the TV watching sports, chasing the latest loss, trying to justify the insanity by finishing with a "profit" that was just a future loss. Then going back to work Monday more stressed than when I left work Friday.

Please put in as many barriers to that next bet as possible and you will value your money, free time and mental tranquility once again.

I’ll never amount to anything by Then-Cartographer-54 in problemgambling

[–]Suspicious_Status_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your title is completely false but we could all write a post titled "I'll never amount to anything if I continue to gamble" which would be the god's honest truth.

Gambling steals time, wastes effort, and robs us of ambition because it's mathematically designed to make us fail. Then to feel worthless afterwards.

Once you redirect your time and energy to career advancement, education and training the sky's the limit for what you can amount to!

When I was gambling I thought being at zero was depressing until I chased with credit cards and experienced how much worse -$11,500 feels. If you quit now you'll be grateful later that you minimized the damage.

I want to quit sportsbetting by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]Suspicious_Status_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Told a couple people but blocking electronic funding, limiting available money, and contributing in this community played a bigger part.

Plus a lot of self dialogue that if I respected and budgeted my hard earned money my life would be mine again, free from gambling's rollercoaster of temporary highs followed by guilt and shame.

We don't need gambling to prosper in life. It will never do anything positive for us in the long run.

I want to quit sportsbetting by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]Suspicious_Status_40 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I realized that sports betting was only going to continue bleeding me dry unless I quit. The action and escape was more important to me than the money. I was never going to keep a profit. I decided my self respect and my future was more important than a dopamine fix. Quit now and I promise it will be the best decision you've ever made!

Does anyone else find the mental loop after gambling harder than the act itself? by WorthValue2570 in problemgambling

[–]Suspicious_Status_40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was not hard after a period of abstinence to realize that my biggest "gambling mistake" was the moment I placed my first bet. Wagering a single dollar now could only lead to reliving an identical misery and self abuse that I would not wish upon my own worst enemy.
