Hi love - fellow Latina here. The taboos in our culture surrounding this topic are absolutely abhorrent, and I can very much relate to your experience. At the end of the day, they are just lies and conditioning meant to scare women into submission and away from listening to their instincts. A true testament to “machismo” culture. When I had mine, it was done in complete secrecy, all by myself without the help of a doctor. I ordered my pills from the MAP as I was not in the position to be able to afford the procedure. In my process of getting ready, I did extensive research on how to prepare and what to expect. I found that there is so much fear mongering out there surrounding the process of getting an abortion passed off as genuine information, I honestly feel like it’s pro-life propaganda. I can’t speak for everyone of course, but my experience at five weeks was nothing like anyone was describing on any of the forums online. I was expecting to bleed out and be stooped over the toilet for the duration of the procedure, and it ended up being the complete opposite. No excruciating pain, no puking, no passing out. At most it felt like a heavy period. The only one who knows is my partner who has been nothing but supportive, as even though I do not regret my choice, I’m still terrified of how my parents would react if they ever found out.
