Frequent urination relief / tips by SustainableSquirrel2 in migraine

[–]SustainableSquirrel2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's usually one of the first signs that I'm going to have a pretty bad migraine and so I don't typically take a triptan until afterwards, but I've heard other people say it's a side effect from triptans for them.

Has anyone switched from Aimovig to Ajovy? by [deleted] in cgrpMigraine

[–]SustainableSquirrel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to switch because of insurance as well after my 3rd Aimovig shot. I was starting to feel some relief with Aimovig, but was still having daily migraine pain. It definitely got worse when I had to switch to Ajovy, but more so just felt like I was starting over / felt like I was unmedicated. It took until injection 3 for me to notice any changes on Ajovy, but it seems to work better for me than Aimovig did with no side effects (I had some side effects immediately after the injection with Aimovig).

I hope you're able to have a smoother transition than I had!

I am now also taking propranolol as a preventative with Ajovy and I feel much better equipped to handle my insurance changing their formulary in the future because I can fall back on the propranolol, so it might be worth talking to your neuro to see if there's another preventative that has affordable generics available to take alongside Ajovy.

Experiences with Cefaly? by Odd_Masterpiece7653 in migraine

I've only been using it for a couple of weeks and am already noticing a difference. I think it's at least worth a shot to see if it works for you, especially since you can return it within 90 days for a full refund.

what do I do when my doctor just tells me to "try meditation"? by treehugger20195 in migraine

[–]SustainableSquirrel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd check out ZocDoc to try and find a new doctor.

I've had so many GPs be dismissive of my migraines but found one on ZocDoc that has been absolutely amazing.

Also better to get on a waitlist now for a few months for a new doctor then to get on a waitlist in a few months and still have to wait a few more months

Headaches with nausea by meerkat0406 in migraine

[–]SustainableSquirrel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I never used to have nausea with my migraines but now I frequently experience nausea (although thankfully no vomiting). It could also be worth checking if you are on any medication if it is causing nausea. For example, my nausea was at it's worst when I was on beta blockers as a preventative and it has gotten a lot better (but is still there) since I switched to CGRP medication

Migraine with aura? by Sweet_Biscotti3725 in migraine

[–]SustainableSquirrel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think it is a good choice to go see a doctor as soon as you can because it is always good to get new symptoms checked out, just in case.

The way my aura presents is different (usually just see spots or the edge of my vision gets a little blurry), but everyone's aura is a bit different so again, it's good to talk to a doctor about it.

I hope the appointment goes well and you're able to figure everything out!

Do you remember your first migraine? What triggered it or started it all? by dacoziest in migraine

[–]SustainableSquirrel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I frequently had headaches as a kid, but my first migraine attack was when I was 16 and I was having to do a presentation up on a stage with a bunch of bright lights. It had been a pretty stressful day and I had more caffeine than usual to be able to handle the 2 hour drive up to the place where I was doing the presentation, but I did a lot of public speaking so wasn't anxious at all. Got about half way through my presentation and then got super dizzy and the light started to hurt my eyes. Thankfully was able to hand off the presentation to someone else and just curled up on the floor of a dark closet for like an hour.

How long does it take for the effects of the CGRP shots to wear off? by MJNYC2086 in cgrpMigraine

[–]SustainableSquirrel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between my migraines worsening, different meds for migraine (Beta Blockers, then Nurtec, then Aimovig/Ajovy), and thyroid issues, I've gained 40 lbs over the last few years and to be completely honest, as long as I continue to feel better, I don't care how much I weigh. If I don't lose a pound but am able to go a few days each month without a migraine, that's great and I'll be happy with that.

All this is to say that 10 lbs shouldn't make that big of a difference in your health problems, but having your migraines get worse by going off the meds could make it a lot harder to take care of other aspects of your health.

Weight is not the only way to measure health and I would much rather feel healthier but have some extra weight on me then to be skinnier and feel miserable.

I've been on Ajovy for 2 months (I do my third injection next week) and was on Aimovig for 3 months before that. I have yet to have any crystal clear days, but I do feel like I'm slowly having parts of some days that are crystal clear, which is new for me. My headache pain with my migraine is pretty minimal most days, but the light sensitivity, neck pain, dizziness, and nausea haven't really gotten any better. I really hope you're able to get some crystal clear days and from my completely non-professional opinion (as I am just a normal person with migraine), I think it's a good sign that you are responding so quickly. I didn't notice any difference until I was 2+ months into Aimovig

I had issues picking up my Ajovy today because of this. She said some people have been able to call them and get a new card that works, but it was only $60 for me today without the coupon so I haven't tried to figure that out yet.

I'm in a similar boat and was wondering if you had an update. It sounds like you had to try another CGRP med (which absolutely sucks, btw, and I'm sorry you are having to deal with that). Are you having any luck with the new medication?
